Starter ring gear

I have a '14 T with a recently rebuilt motor (bought this way) and now I'm thinking of installing a starter. I already have the later (1920) hogshead with lettered pedals and a new starter but I don't know if the motor has the ring gear installed. Is there any way of seeing or feeling to tell if the ring gear is installed without removing the...

Also, the Mag Coil ring needs a notch on the left side to clear the starter bendix drive. Unless the previous owner was planning on a starter at some time later, more than likely the original flywheel and mag ring was used.

If it's not one thing it's another..... the reality of Model T ownership :D Today I was crawling under my Model T to string some electrical wire. I noticed a slight smell of gasoline and when I got up by the fuel tank, I noticed a tiny drip on the lower left side of the tank. There was no puddle on the floor... just a really slow seep.

How many volts output from generator?

First post
My generator wasn't charging so I cleaned the armature and got it going but was surprised when I checked the voltage. I was expecting made 9 volts but it was bouncing between 12 and 14 before the cutout and just over 6 after the cutout. Is it normal to get that much juice out of the generator?
Last post
Jeff can be contacted at www.modeltstarters.com . 6 volt negative ground voltage regulator for Model T generator
Or just message me at jeff@modeltstarters.com.
I will say that I'm also making Diode cutouts that are able to handle 60A which is 2x what the NuRex cutouts handle, and are $8 less expensive. Honestly I wouldn't waste time on cutouts...

Before you go changing anything, find out just where the interference is occurring. Look for rub marks on the hub or axle seal or ??? and address the issue from there. If you find no evidence of interference, try giving everything a very light coat of spray paint, reassemble until it gets snug, move things around a bit, then disassemble and look...

Wondering what the correct tail lamp bracket should be for a late 1915 to early 1916 Model T Coupelet. I have heard it is just a runabout bracket, and I’ve also heard that it is a special bracket that mounts underneath the body. If anyone knows and has pictures, it would be very helpful. Also looking for information on the side lamp brackets. Need...

I’ve read that there have been accidents caused by Rocky Mountain brakes not holding on hills and allowing the car to roll backwards uncontrollably in reverse.
I don’t understand why the foot pedal transmission brake band or the “emergency” hand brake didn’t hold on the hill. What am I missing here? I am new to the Model T Fords and still trying...

Thanks, Dan, and everyone else, for all the great information. Looks like maybe I was wrong to be unsure of RM brakes, if they can indeed be set up (in tandem with the stock braking system) to prevent the car from rolling backwards and causing an accident.
Some may disagree, but I think this short conversation has been of critical importance to...

I have a generator test stand that my dad made years ago. Not fancy, but works great. However, for the load , I need to have a 6V battery handy. Problem is, I don't often have one laying around to spare. My current one is a 6V Optima that belongs in my Sedan. It's at full charge right now and frankly, I don't like putting more charge into it with...

So, the question is, is there a resistance load that I can build into my test stand to replicate the load of a battery? Ohms? Watts?
It's not as easy as that because a resistive load is very different to a battery. There's nothing to actually clamp the generator voltage as the output voltage rises - unless the load current is greater than the...

If the seller is trying to avoid paying a fee, find out what the fee is and offer to pay for both the goods and the fee via the normal payment method. That way, he gets the full payment he wants and you'll be protected if the deal goes south. If he balks, skip the deal.

In my experience, full size batteries outlast the smaller ones almost without exception. Applying a heavy draw, such as a T starter, to a small battery will probably shorten its life, and they seem to come with a short life built in. For non-starter use, a smaller battery ought to do fine, other than its lower storage...

Working on a Ruckstell out of a '15 Touring from the Lake Tahoe area many years ago - anyone recognize this type of outboard axle bearing ? The p.s. has what appears to be knock-off tabs across from each other - not so on the Ruckstell half ? Federal # FS88508 on the outer carrier.
Also: how not to bush a #160 housing !

Appreciate the comments Hap - supposed history of this '15 Touring was it was one of the xxx number built during the 1915 San Francisco Expo ! I'll check the housings a bit closer BUT they both take the later open spool & it's a later type torque tube so I'm assuming they were modified .

Searched but could not find specifics on how to install glass in windshield frames then in stanchions.
1, Do I wrap the glass in glass setting/bedding cloth tape I get at Lang's before inserting glass into frame.
2, Do I also use the setting/bedding tape or something else for under the clamp and each end of frame.
3, Do I get safety glass or...

Installing the glass in your windshield frame is easy if you take the frame to your nearby glass shop and let them do it properly. It not that expensive. If you break it while you try to install it, you just doubled the cost.

There has been some discussion about aftermarket distributors and I would like to get this cleared up in my mind. As I understand there was
or is a gentleman that designed & manufactured the drive to run a Bosch distributor on a model T. What I cant seem to figure out is what was
his name? So far I have heard Rader, Raider, Reader, Reeder & R.G....

I have my new Rootlieb sheet metal and the body is being worked on so my question is on the paint and costs. I do want a professional paint job and plan to bring the fenders, running boards etc to a local shop and wondering if anyone has had a recent experience and how much to expect it to cost.
I may wait to bring them the body as it is finished...

Hi,
I have a Henry Carter from Madisonville KY, who have ordered (and paid) for a set of refurbished coils on eBay.
Due to shipment costs, I do normally not deal with Model T folks from the US and you do also have lots of alternative US based solutions, but now the payment have come through to me, but he do not react on the messges I've send to...

Came off a speedster friend has. Don’t know history, hope someone here can tell me more. It bolts to what looks to be Model A transmission so it can bolt on to a T engine.
Replaces the Ball Cap, AKA 4th main.
Thinking about making them if no one else is still doing it.

Looking for a brand name or information on a set or 4) 8-spoke Model t steel wheels I recently acquired. All was well until I measured them for tires. All 4) 24 . So 30 x 3's would work but think they wouldn't look correct or perform well especially on a Tudor. Are 32 x 4's an option? Any advice appreciated. (Or a set of 23 steel Wheels)
Thanks...

So, here's the lowdown on my Model T misadventures: I figured I'd dive into the deep end, had Joe bell rebuild the engine. He got it purring like a kitten... well, more like a kitten with a smoker's cough, carburetor problems, that's on me. Then I meticulously pieced together the rest of the car, from the tires up, with the confidence of someone...
