Not a big deal normally, but my '27 Touring car has been sitting in the garage since about September of 2022. It was at that time that we discovered that the bride had a terminal illness; she died in November of that year. I needed some electrical work done in the garage, and the T had to move. I put a battery charger on it, then pumped up the...

Advice needed on fitting a cam thrust washer kit to a reground cam

I am fitting cam bearings to a reground cam. So far, everything is going well and I’m pleased with progress. My reground cam no longer has a thrust surface full-circle on the front lobe. I could use advice on setting up the fit of a thrust washer kit.

As long as you're using the thrust kit, it should not hurt to remove some material from the back end of the cam bearing. Taking off .010 would give you plenty of space for future wear in the thrust bearing kit.

They are metallized mylar type internal construction and hence not suitable for use in Model T Ford ignition coil rebuilding.

What are the differences among the Ralph Reeder aluminum high compression low heads? I've seen the compression ratios for this head described as both 6:1 and also 8:1? There are apparently also physical differences, where a current photo shown on the Classifieds bares no Ford script, and does not show an embossed R located on the outlet boss. Mine...

Happy Easter.
I've only driven the car in and out of the garage, about 50 feet forward and 50 back. When backing up, I tend to stop at the garage door and then push it back in because of visibility and close proximity to my other cars. The steering is very tight. I cannot move the steering wheel when the car is sitting still.
Is this normal?...
Last post
Up to this point, no one has really suggested..Clean and oil the bushings kingpins and joints, not to mention clean and repack wheel bearings. The car may move a little bit better for you.

YIKES. That screw is what holds the magnet keeper plate. That means an engine/flywheel pull.
Dont run it until fixed.
If you have a starter, you can remove it(bendix first) & rotate the flywheel to view the magnet/keepers/screws & confirm.

That question aside, I think I may need a new axle anyway, as it has .055 up & down play and the outer bearing is only about .003 undersized.

We are currently trying to put a '12 rear end together, and finding that the wheels lock up tight when the wheel nuts are tightened, then I read in a recent Vintage Ford article about 1912 rear axles housings being 5/16 longer than later ones, and that if later hubs were used, they would need to be machined to clear the axle seals.
Was there an...

Before you go changing anything, find out just where the interference is occurring. Look for rub marks on the hub or axle seal or ??? and address the issue from there. If you find no evidence of interference, try giving everything a very light coat of spray paint, reassemble until it gets snug, move things around a bit, then disassemble and look...

Also: how not to bush a #160 housing !

Appreciate the comments Hap - supposed history of this '15 Touring was it was one of the xxx number built during the 1915 San Francisco Expo ! I'll check the housings a bit closer BUT they both take the later open spool & it's a later type torque tube so I'm assuming they were modified .

Hi Tom,
The T-GO head is a good runner, they do need a water pump as they don't seem to thermosyphon very well. D.P. had two of them & he said that
they are from a batch that had porosity issues and needed to be repaired many times. W.M. has one one his 13 and it seems to be indestructible.

I got this valve seat cutter from a friend it's clearly marked 5-z-459. The tool chart I have says 5-z-457 are there more tools not on the chart anyone have a complete list?

Brass plugs in car. Passageways

Hi all,
What suggestions do you all have for replacing the small brass plugs that seal the carb passageways? They're made of brass originally, I believe. Can I use heavy copper copper wire, or does it have to be brass? Thanks for your help.

This Rear Fender looks a little bit different than any I have found or seen.
Does anyone recognize what year or body style that was designed for that fender use?

Those are hack fenders. I bought 2 for a speedster I built.
I know you're saying hack fenders because they're not rounded on both ends, but I think hack fenders would not be so long. Maybe TT fenders with one end modified to attach to the running board?

I just came across this carpet on ebay and wondered if anyone has ever ordered one to see if it is any good. It is $22.80 plus shipping so it certainly is cheap enough if it is any good.

Another T product that’s being offered online as a “fits all”. Sold as a 1908-27. It doesn’t fit all and manufactured by folks who don’t have correct information about Model T’s. Definitely not made by knowledgeable people. Same type of thinking that all Model T’s were black.

Is there a company or companies that sell window roller shades for antique and vintage cars? I am looking for patterned vinyl or cloth shade material for my Towncar. From what I can tell, only plain vinyl shade materials are available from Model A parts vendors. Am interested in fancier window roller shades. Thank you for any leads.

I think you will be happy with Heritage. They fabricated some shades for my Model A Victoria and mimicked the original fabric pretty well. The tassels they used look like the real deal (but that is a Model A thing). Be specific about what you want when talking to them.

Today I awoke Clyde, my 1925 Express Wagon from an 8-month slumber. It started easily, though I did get a backfire as it was starting. It seemed to run fine for a few minutes then got rough and lost power.
I had just reinstalled the timer, so the first thing I did was check the wiring - all as it should be. I then started to check the timing and...

Jerry and others were right; the issue wasn’t carbon tracking. The orientation of the #3 terminal on the timer was such that it contacted the cam gear cover. Evidently I had done my isolation checks with the timer off. I corrected the #3 terminal and it runs fine now, but I am going to get the plastic rebuild kit.

Hello, After backing out my TT to do some spring maintenance I went to start it up to take a ride. It started and stalled, when I went to start it again I had nothing. No coils buzzing, starter didnt spin engage.....I have 6volt power to it all but it all is dead. I even tried to put a jumper form the batt to the starter, nothing! Ideas?

Had the same thing today. I was going out to fuel up for a tour stating tomorrow, hit the starter switch and killed everything. Previously we had been chasing a slow starter problem, which was cured by taking the switch apart, cleaning all the contacts and re fitting same. When the ground lead at the battery was hooked up again, slow starter...

My 1913 T touring was bought from the original owner in 1954 for $450. It must have been in great shape because it still has the original leather. In 1960 my father offered me a 1911 Touring car if I restored it. He had bought it for $900 for Earl Leap, that was a hefty price because 5 years later he bought a 1931 Auburn Speedster for $500 after I...

I own a 1926 fordor that came to me out of Pennsylvania, by way of Valdosta, Georgia. I don't know who restored it in Pennsylvania, but while the paint job is of nice quality, if I had chosen the paint color, it would have been gray or maroon; anything but green. While i have nothing against John Deere tractors (my Dad owned plenty and combines,...

I wouldn't use the expanding foam because it will be a b×#@&* to remove later if you or the next guy need to ever work on that coil again.

Searched but could not find specifics on how to install glass in windshield frames then in stanchions.
1, Do I wrap the glass in glass setting/bedding cloth tape I get at Lang's before inserting glass into frame.
2, Do I also use the setting/bedding tape or something else for under the clamp and each end of frame.
3, Do I get safety glass or...

Installing the glass in your windshield frame is easy if you take the frame to your nearby glass shop and let them do it properly. It not that expensive. If you break it while you try to install it, you just doubled the cost.
