How to remove epoxy?

The previous owner of my ‘14 must have had a gas leak at the flange on the gas tank. Looks like their first fix was to seal it up with J B Weld… That must not have worked because on top of the J B Weld was another layer of a clear epoxy. That didn’t work either, so I’m trying to fix it correctly, but can’t get all of the epoxy out of all the nooks...

Saturate with MEK and keep it saturated until it softens. You can do this by continually painting the MEK on the areas you want to remove with an old paint brush or get a rag and pour MEK on it and press the saturated rag into the nooks and crannies. This will keep the MEK against the surface longer, before it evaporates. Ventilate the room good....

Hi all,
I noticed in an old Mac's catalogue that for touring top material you had a choice of cobra short grain or colonial grain. Anyone know the judging standards for top material for a 25 touring? I have a source for the short grain cobra and will use it if it's not incorrect. Thanks all,

For those who own or are familiar with a 1909/10 Touring, was the rear floorboard covered with a fitted, snap-in carpet? I don't think the early cars used the cocoa mat but I could be wrong. I've seen a couple touring cars on-line with the short pile, fitted carpet and Gail Rodda has one in his 1909. If this is the case where would I go to have...

Just updated the chronology in my post above - cocoa mats from 1911 to mid 1917, wool felt to 1921 or 22, rubber afterwards, all for touring cars.
I think tourabouts were considered open cars in that they had no doors, and the rear seat was thought of as just a larger rumble seat, so white rubber mats, same as the front. Touring cars, while...

No need for any extra fancy tools to tighten the back bolts on the T head. Just use the original Ford wrench because of length it is built to only pull 45-50 foot pounds of torque by most people.

That STS is designed for the early coils and has the bottom coil connection slightly to the right.
So, the newer coils have to be set slightly off straight or the test set appears not to work.
You can see the col sparks coming of the termina and in the small window to the right of the red spark plug connector for testing those.

I was talking to a fellow today who has double T truck and in conversation I asked what it would run and was told that he could do 40. That can't be right, can it? He said that it has a 2 speed accessory transmission and a stock TT differential. I thought that 25 mph would be a high estimate. Just curious. Thanks and God bless.

I tried the 3 brass screw thing. It didn't work. TT driveshafts need to have a machined area for it to possibly work. Most TT driveshafts are machined off center because it was cheap and fast and only spinning 1600 rpm max with 20 hp.

Thanks. Yes I have the cotter pin out. I’ll rig up something to help press it out, not worried about the old pulley.

The fan pulley is convex with the widest part at the center so the belt is supposed to seek the widest part of the pulley and stay centered, but if the pulley has been worn flat, or the fan bushing or shaft is worn or bent, causing the fan to dip down, your guide is useful to help keep the belt centered on the pulley, even if it frays the edge of...

I know it is a bit of a drift from the original topic but while on the pins the biggest problem is those who fit the rods the wrong way around, now that's a time bomb waiting to happen. 000_1199.JPG

With the touring season kicking into high gear, I want to mention a oft-neglected check that may save you big trouble and $$. When was the last time you checked the tightness of your rear axle nuts? In my opinion, loose nuts are the main cause of damage to the taper of your axles and even your wheel hubs. I've seen scored axles, wallowed-out...

Chris, sorry for not checking with you first. The photo popped up on a google image search. One of the guys in our club forgot to install a cotter pin in one of his wheel nuts. After a short drive the nut loosened and the wheel fell off...on a busy street of course. Nobody thought to get a photo - they were too busy dodging cars.

Here is a picture of two NOS parts that were on same wire. They came out of same Ford dealer. Same factory number on each.
But the ends are made different. Different manufacturers, cut ones cheaper to make?
You can see they are T 7648, front spring hanger bars. Part number 3814 I believe.
Am ideas as to why? Round one earlier than the cut ones....

However they skipped the rounded ends step it was one last step to get the brackets out a little easier and faster. It could be the squared ends were machined or ground off to the rounded ends was the step that was elimited. Or maybe stamped as mentioned.

Anybody got the pattern for making that block that is meant to reduce throttle and spark lever slippage? They don't appear to be available anymore.

Older post from 2019 with dimensions of one T'ers wood work to make one of these contraptions :)
Usually a small adjustable wrench, fitted to the quadrant, will lift or bend up the quadrant in a spot that 'tightens' the lever against the grooves in the quadrant arm to prevent slippage.

Does anyone have pictures and measurement and attaching point of the leather strap that holds the speedometer cable off the tire when turning or do I just wing it n_1918 Stewart Warner Speedometer_Page_27.jpg
Last post
I've worked on speedometers and their drive components for a few years and DO NOT recommend using a support strap on a Model T. The Model T uses cables that range from 48 to 63 and this length is just too short to need a support strap. The cable should hang freely from the swivel to the head. When a longer cable is used than what is recommended,...

I'm having concerns on the quality of the finish of the new bushings being made today for the vendors, the new bush is lacking adequate oil lines cut internally. New on the left and an original on the right. 000_1192.JPG

Yes, the chamfer is still showing on the old one but only just as the flange was worn flush to the fly wheel.

No hhandles on my former depot hack hood. Vents all the way along the side and fits radiator and hood former of this 26/27 donor vehicle. But when I look at what the vendors offer for this, and almost every other year hood, each handle appears to attach with two small rivets at each end, or four rivets for each handle. But my hood only has one...

Thank you for that. One more quick look through the parts stash and then I will order them. Thank you for including the link to the listing, it's a big help for me.

My thoughts right now are to delete the redundant actuating shafts and carrier and just leaving them hand operated.

Altho I’m a member of the MTFCA and have a couple Model Ts, I have the opportunity to buy a 1912 Metz Model 22. As you can see from my name, I live in San Diego and the car is in Cedarville, New Jersey. As explained to me, the Metz is a very different car to drive, much different from a Model T, and should be looked at and ridden in before...

Hers a neat photo of a Model T sitting next to a high end rich man’s car in the late 20’s beings stopped in the street by a traffic cop. He’s trying to make it safe for the mother cat.
I’m thinking that’s a low cowl T in the picture but not sure of the big shiny high class car.
There is a big difference in the 2 cars prices even it that era!

Glad no one got hurt. It's only stuff.
But, a reminder for all to check their vintage aucto insurance coverage. When I was shopping around for coverage, there were requirements for covered, on site parking. If parked at another location, even if covered like a storage locker or a car museum or showroom, it might not be covered for damage or theft.

Viton needle for Holley S Carburetor

Does anyone have a source for a Viton tipped Needle? It’s for a 1913 Holley S carburetor. It measures 7/8” long by 1/4” wide. I don’t need the seat, only the needle. Also any gaskets out there?
Last post
If my NH experience is any indication, Viton tip needles sometimes stick. That's why I prefer original type needles. If Scott makes a float valve for your carburetor, that's the way to go.
Ditto, those tips tend to hang for some reason.

Something to consider when you're supposed to be sleeping - if you were to lay end to end the connecting rods of the 15 million T's made (not including the replacement parts) they would go to the moon and back 14 times. (I think I got all the zeros in the equation)

Interesting! Back when Stutzman would sell loose spokes, I bought a set. I don't use the Regan method to install spokes so the smaller diameter for the hub was no problem, but I did have to bore the hole before pressing in the hub. I also had to cut the big chamfer on the hole.
Your experience is a good lesson for us all to be aware of! Thanks...

Some years ago I remember a post here containing photos of a Model T being hoisted up to a second floor doorway of a theatre by way of two forklifts. The T was to be used as part of the set for a live production. The last photo showed the car in a heap on the ground, it fell off the forks before reaching the open doorway.
Does anyone have copies...
