I picked up my rims from the plater recently and was very pleased with the results. I am usually underwhelmed by some of the businesses that will take on a small job like model T parts, do it in a reasonable time and for a reasonable price. Gone are so many of the small businesses like radiator shops that will do a one-off something. When I went...

Love your work Geoff. I always sandblast the rims first. it is amazing what defects this can reveal. When you worlk/file on them, it changes the appearance of the surface, and the area needs blasting again to make the surface match the rest.
Electro plated zinc finish is spot on for appearance, even though it is not as durable as hot dip...

How long is a stock drive shaft tube (OAL)

I have a shortened drive shaft tube that fits a unique set of lowering brackets and I need to have the driveshaft cut down to fit it. I don’t have a stock tube that’s not in a car to measure the overall length, to determine how much shorter this tube is from stock. I am calculating the number from the placement of the spring perches but it would...
Last post
Steve's reply indicates the need to take the measurements from the rear end mounting face to the front of the ball, although the nature of the sliding fit of the driveshaft in the transmission means that little difference may not be of any real consequence. Just be sure to get the Universal joint pin hole in the right spot when drilling it.

Has anything been decided as to whether or not a Model T project will be pursued for Steve Jelf? It sounds as if he is coming out of the fog and it would be nice if there was a functional or restorable Model T waiting for him when he got home. I’m sure he would want the same year and style he had. Is the Model T he was driving salvageable? If so,...

A 15 model T in any condition is restorable if you have the title.
There was an early Waco (airplane) rudder hanging on a wall at Flabob airport.
It had a N number on it
A local guy bought it and restored it to flying condition.
the picture is not the actual airplane
I have a 25 frame he can cut up and use for parts to fix his frame to start with.

Two years ago, I purchased a 1917 T Truck that had an engine installed that Dick had rebuilt.

Has anyone else noticed the #1 cylinder of their engine running rich? I regularly check my spark plugs because they're a good read on how the engine has been running. #2, #3 and #4 plugs looked great; no oil or carbon, burn mark about 1/2 way down the ground strap, etc. But #1 plug had carbon build-up (not oil). It wasn't fouled but definitely not...

If the car runs fine and the color of the #1 plug is a concern, maybe you could find a plug for #1 that is one or two steps hotter than the other three.
I used to have a Nissan pickup with dual plugs per cylinder. Nissan specified a different heat range for the two plug positions.

To tight is bad. Can cause extra cylinder wear & ring breakage. Remember a T has no water jacket around the cylinders. A little extra clearance over the tightest manufactures standard recommended clearance is in order, IMO.
A fellow motor builder described extra clearance as not so critical. Its like trying to throw a bucket full of water thru a...

Previously I have used sections of a reverse gear bush to rebuild brass truss rod mountings where the spring leaf hanging from worn shackles wears a groove in the mounting bracket.
Today I used another piece of the same bush to repair a broken bottom radiator outlet

.fit straight edged tyres to clincher rims?
I've been working on the barn fresh tourer from Booboorowie. 20231005_105641.jpg
It was fitted with 4.40 x 23 tyres three of which were straight sided. To get them on the rims they cut the rims!!!! 20231122_103146.jpg

I have seen rims that had adapter pieces, kind of a half-round metal ring the fit into the clincher area, to make them straight-sided rims. It should not be a big deal to make up a set of these if you needed to. Just find the correct diameter of steel rod, that is a snug fit in the clincher bead, and then machine it flat on one side, and then roll...

From another discussion
A 09-25 T spindle. Measures 2.125 from bottom of kingpin shaft (not including bushing) to spindle centerline.
The 'improved car' (26-27) model T spindle; 2.75 from bottom of kingpin shaft (not including bushing) to spindle CL (spindle CL is 5/8 higher than the 09-25 spindle, producing a 'drop' of like amount.). So 5/8

Wondering about this rather large oval hole in my ‘25 Coupe firewall passenger side. Is it for a speedometer cable? Maybe it lets heat in? It’s not for carb adjusting rod, that fits elsewhere.
Last post
Sort of typical what Ford would do to keep the transition of cars and their parts going to the next models.
Changes in the fender bracket holes in the frames, updating fender brackets, battery bracket holes, open car windshield brackets and etc The firewall updates also as we see here. I have a 24 Coupe and wandered about the extra hole too....

According to the encyclopedia, today is my runabout’s 110th birthday. It was “reborn” the same year I was born. The previous owner pulled it out of a local barn in 1957.

The mounting bracket isn’t squared up to spindle arm. I don’t think the clamp on the mount is movable. I believe it’s welded in place. I haven’t tried moving it for fear of breaking it. Anyone?

Looks like powder coated glued/melted on. You may need to heat it up to loosen it.

Hotter Spark Plug

Which is of the three spark plug brands offered by T parts suppliers is hotter: the Champion, Motorcraft or Autolite? Is there a spark plug (1/2 tapered thread or 14MM thread w/adapter) that is hotter than any of these?
Last post
Yes John it does as the adapters with the plugs actually lowered the compression just by a little and cause a heat shunt. Second.., your manifold getting red is another byproduct of the plug gap/timing/or mixture not being in sync with the change. You have to use a long reach threaded plug with adapters to maximize the good effects. The adapters...

Reverse seems a little light on my 1927 coupe. How do I tell if it needs adjustment? If it does, how many licks should I start with on the first adjustment?
Last post
As long as the pedal doesn't hit the floorboard it should be okay. Do not try for a high pedal , that's adjusted too tight. The pedal should stop within maybe 1/2 - 1 from the floorboard. As to adjustments, take small steps, as others have mentioned. Half turn at a time.
