In the loft of one of the many buildings at the Gilmore is Model T Ford serial number 131. This is a two lever, water pump equipped Model T, one of the earliest known to exist today. Non Demountable Wheels on Late T's

The inexpensive Ford models in the 1920's were sold without demountable wheels and starter and generators. How many of these exist today? An example is on the back cover of the current Model T Times. It has 30X3 non demountable wheels in front, and 30X3 1/2 non demountable wheels in the back. If you look closely through the rear spokes, I think I...

My very first Model T was a 1926 touring. It had demountable 30 X 3 1/2 all the way around. What was really interesting on that car, was it had every genuine Ford accessory available on it.

How many cars in a T built from parts?

I was on my way home yesterday thinking it was a nice day for a drive in a 106 year old car. Then I got to thinking, the majority of the car is from 1914, but I assembled it over many years. I bought a frame and axles for $75 when I was 14 and shortly thereafter found an engine, a 1914. Now it was an original engine and aluminum hogshead, but I...

I am 65 years old. My Dad was hauling in model T stuff before I was born in 1960. I can guarantee you that a vast majority of model T’s out there were put together from parts. Has anyone been successful at mating the apron and rear fender of Rootlieb parts? I wanted to connect them with the standard bracket but they just don't line up correctly.

When I visited the Rootlieb shop in 1994 I was afforded a tour of the place. At one stage a fellow was placing a plank along a splash panel, and then walking that plank. Any significance to the Ford car number on the patent plate?
by
NealW » Fri Nov 21, 2025 3:49 pm
First post
It is my understanding that up until 1910 or early 1911, Ford would use the engine serial number as the car number that was stamped onto the firewall patent plate, and by 1911 or so it got to be too much of a pain to keep that coordinated, so the numbers no longer matched.
Does anyone know whether the car number stamped on to the patent plate had...
Last post
Re your '14, my '14 body plate & engine # are also far off, but it's also my understanding that there was no correlation at that point.
Motor and body numbers stopped matching in early Oct. 1911, so theoretically in the 1912 model year.

According to the history he had more than one, so I wouldn’t be surprised. Also, since Anchorage was not founded until 1915, the reported 1913 date might be spurious.

At the factory, the rims were heated, the felloe and spoke assembly were placed in the heated rim and the rim would shrink onto the felloe. This is also what professional wheelwrights do.

REO yes....., Ford no. You must anneal the rounded brass or you will kink it. You think Henry Ford would have added extra steps in that? Flat can be slapped with a mallet with a light edge support.

So, there are a few rim manufacturers out there that will roll new lock ring rims, but only 1 of them makes the actual lock rings. They are a custom hot rolled steel profile that gets rolled to mate up to each rim diameter. 2 profiles are traditionally available, “heavy” for the larger cars, and “light” for our more nimble autos.

Hi,
I bought a spare tire for my Roadster. One spoke looks bad, 3 others do not look good.
Therefore I want to remove these 4 spokes, to see, if I could fix them with glue.
Could you please give a hint how I could remove the first spoke without destroying it.
I think if the first spoke is removed, to remove the others should not be a challenge....
Last post
When making new wooden felloe halves the stock used should be a foot longer. The ends of the curves will never be bent in a circle, so they need your be trimmed off/back so the half piece is part of a true circle. This is not quite so important if making laminated felloes, as the thin lamunates will hold the curve bette.

While the rear cap is self-evident, the center cap is just a bit wider than the front. The front pretty much covers the saddle; the center one does not fully cover the saddle. As said, the rear cap carries the full thrust by itself no thrust is poured in the block, some do add it there too but the block has to be cut back to add.

Auto Radiator Manufacturing Co. listed early and late radiators on this ad. I know I’ve seen the early radiator with that logo in one of the accessory catalogs.

Has anyone bought a 6 Volt, Group 1 Battery for their Model T lately?
The same major brand that I bought three years ago that was $75.00 with a trade in battery is now $155.00 with a trade in battery.
One auto parts store still has them for $114.95 with a trade in battery.
Both stores still add $15.00 for a no trade in sale.
A severe case of...

Problems with a car's charging system, such as under or over-charging, can dramatically shorten battery life. Starters that are not in good condition are very hard on batteries. Any problems with cables, grounds, including engine to frame grounds, starter switches, or starter issues can mimic a bad battery when in fact the battery is OK, but the...

Sorry for the link. Guess you can’t trust the internet. 🤨
No problem with the link only the people responsible for service at the Parts Warehouse. The issue was simple the nuts shipped didn't match the part number on the pouch which is what I ordered, why? . The progressive series of questions appear for me, not them, to verify their catalogue...

Found what seems to be an original on line, but not sure. No price on it either. Thanks for any help. Dan

Being available in multiple places is a sure sign they are new production. There was a fellow selling a green background A model sign at Bendigo swap meet once. As soon as it sold, he dug another out of his van!
Some of the Indian made ones are really high quality reproductions, but they are still reproductions, so don't pay the price originals...

Cut and paste on your computer is called cut and paste because in past decades, cutting from a donor picture and then pasting that piece in to repair damage or a light leak was how photos were often cleaned up and restored where details and/or natural appearance was desired. Some damage also might be drawn in by hand by an artist. That artistic...

Get and read the Model t Ford service manual. Other publications explaining how a Model T and runs are avaliable from the T parts suppliers and the MTFCA. Study and read so you can become your own T mechanic as best you can. Remember T’s don’t have real brakes and driving them is a little different than your modern vehicles.
T’s are different...

Bottom line, anything running E85 vs gas/10% will get way worse mileage given ethanol only has about 2/3 the equivalent BTU's to gas. This also therefore equates to reduced power output. So, unless E85 is less than 2/3 the cost of gas, or you don't mind wasting $$$ from a mileage perspective or making your engine work harder, or you're doing so...

I just picked up 1 and 2/3 set of Scandinavia Bands. I took them out of the box and looked at them. They have Scandinavia written on the band material, and are 23 & 1/2 inches long. I am wondering, if these are original Scandinavia bands. If so, how do I tell?
They are stiff but pliable, could I potentially use them yet?

Thanks

I've put just on 18,000 km (11,1250 mi) on my E-Timer. It has been completely trouble free. The great thing is, the ignition still performs as well as the day I installed it, without having to perform any maintenance or adjustment.

I am in the process of throwing some stuff together to make a Beverly Hillbillies type of truck.
Question: What kind of blocks are used between the front cab mounts and the frame? Not the mounts to the firewall, but the ones right behind them under the floorboards. Also, were there any blocks on the rear of the cab, or was the cab just bolted...

This link shows the dimensions for the oil pan mounting blocks but wasn’t recommended for the TT truck due to stress issues.
I didn’t install the pan bracket wood blocks on my TT but only because I really never got around to it.

The term “hot” is more of how far the arc will jump an air gap. The larger the gap the “hotter” the spark. Most of the Heinze coils I see are set pretty low. This typically causes cold start issues, inconsistent fire times and is less top end.
There are four different coil packs I see in these coils(see attached photo )and they all behave a...

I think we are hampered by the image size, which makes it hard to see clearly. I don’t see any indication that two bands have been stitched together in the flesh.

Mine looks like a bit of a mix and match, so I’d sure appreciate any pointers or photos of what the proper setup should be.
