A wire loop attached to a block of wood or something. You have to spear the loop with your dangling crank.... speed and size of loop determine the level of challenge.

I found a supply of cotton webbing at my local ACE Hardware. I found the rivet fasteners at Hobby Lobby. I reused the buckle from my old top.

I drove my T to the Father's Day Car Show at Oakbrook Mall. Relatively heavy traffic driving home at 6pm. When those Tesla drivers honk at you, it is not to give you a thumbs up.

I think it’s a 10 cause of how dark the paint is . Must be green.
It may be - but remember that film at that time was color blind and not sensitive to red. That tended to make red go very dark to black depending on the amount of UV light it reflected. I love these old photos. They really make things come to life again.

You could actually use that single contact plug in your double contact socket if you connect only one of the pins to the battery supply, and make sure the shell of the socket is grounded.

Jack didn't do the proper research when he had the new style Rocky Mountain brakes made. He used a Bennett equalizer instead of the original Rocky Mountain design. Correct Rocky Mountain brakes use a cable, and a simple equalizer.

Keith, on our RHD cars the swivel end is on the right side of the car, quite near the carburetor. Because of the twisting change in geometry between the control arm on the throttle rod and the arm on the carburetor throttle rod, the swivel end needs to be fitted to the steering column end.

The next time you get it running you could put a test light on the mag post and see if it is putting out electricity. Should do even if running on battery. If the mag has power than you may have a problem with your wiring harness and/or ignition switch.

A model T that has been asleep for 60 years may have a lot of things that will need...

There were some 47 star flags made, but they were never an official US flag. New Mexico wanted some 47 star flags made so they could display them until the 48 star flag became official.

There were some official 49 star versions made, but I don't think I ever saw one.

I have thought that there is a way when removing the transmission cover to make an attachment to be like a tag to go on one of the bolts next to the lock washer large enough to have printing. A message to say, REMOVE KEYS plus FILL CAVITY WITH RAGS , on the tag. It can be added to the bolts that hold down the cover as a reminder. If that is too...

What position was the parking brake in before installing the floorboard.

That’s one thing that the parts catalogs the suppliers offer are really good for. It’s a good reason that if you’re getting into ModelT’s the part catalogs can help with information for such as this, identifying parts and etc.

I have a canvas top boot for my tourer On long distance tows I have a tonneau cover which covers all of the cabin. This is fixed in place by the existing side curtain fittings. The driver of the roadster pickup in picture 12 needs to climb past the roll of barbed wire, since the drivers door was non-functional. :)

I’m wondering if you have the mixture set to lean. I’ve seen people doing this. I find that i definitely adjust the carb on my 27 (NH) in the middle of rich and lean. Just a thought.

There were two models. One like the one on the trailer at Chickasha where a belt drove the engine block you were burning in. And the other where you could put a whole running engine on to drive the second block you were burning in, as in the shop picture. I suppose if you left a complete running engine there, you could use it to run the line shaft...

I’m in with my ‘16 and my son got his approval for his ‘12 today as well. He mentioned it while we were under his Mustang today replacing a seized fuel pump on his Cleveland. The parts store owner was sympathetic and remarked he had replaced a few in his lifetime.

When I didn’t know anything about early Ts I bought a set of those for about $250 and didn’t discover the difference until I mounted them on an early axle couldn’t get them to work. I don't think they are directly related. MPG will also be affected by the grade uphill, downhill, level. And it will be affected by the wind speed and direction. Also the weight of the vehicle and load. And will be affected by the condition of the engine. Too many variables.

Keep in mind that the valves, particularly the exhaust valves, will run hotter than the block, especially under load. You also need some oil clearance. Being a side valve engine, A Model T gets no help from gravity in getting oil to the valve stems.

If the valves are fit too tight in the guides, you may have issues with sticking exhaust valves....

Gerrit.. original style Ford switches can be taken apart cleaned and reused.,.. opening up that switch you'll find why it wasn't working properly, due from dirt, corrosion, contact wear, and other surprises. Hold on to your starter switch.

Although I will admit to not doing it often enough, I really like Scott Conger's oil line test. So far, any time I have done it, it dumped plenty of oil. And most of the model Ts I have started up were engines I put together, and I am very picky about making sure the oil lines are clean and clear when I am inside the engine.

I have run on a tank with no regulator for years without any problem. Open the lamp doors, just crack open the tank and light the lamps. Then you can adjust the flame from the tank. The key is to just crack the tank open a little bit to start. I don't know what the pressure is from a carbide generator but it's very low so the big mistake people...

Good info, Dan. I've worked on quite a few both old and professionally rebuilt 26 & 27 engines, and I have never known to shim those bolts, if needed. I've never have seen a late block that had shims present, either.
Now I know!

Think it was for indexing when doing the machining. It has no function but to make people ask why it is there. The cam gear does not care where it is installed as long as the two timing marks line up when the cam is installed, the gear is not indexed to the cam shaft.

Didn't load all the screenshots as some were fuzzy to read. Yes there were lots of styles of reeds, today the repros are about all the same frog reed type, with one thin edge soldered and the other free end off the reed case just slightly.

Don’t do any tare down removing engine parts or whatever.
Ck all the electrical connections, timer wires rubbing on the block, especially the coil box, wiring, any area where it could be grounded.
IF YOU ARE IN A GARAGE START WHEN ITS DARK OR AT NIGHT. Check the car and see if there is any sparking or any connection not arcing when a wire is...

It's been useful not just for ideas about the radius rods, but also for the hitch. Now I can make sense of some of the photos I've seen.

I looked at the pictures again and the shadows are the same on both pictures. I think it is the same car with some trick adjustment to change the color of the floormat.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I took the pin back off, squirted graphite liquid in and kept trying. The problem is that the key is going in too far. When I pulled it out ever so slightly, the key turned smoothly from BAT to MAG.
I must say that this older switch is much smoother and more solid than any of the repro...

At the Old Car Festival they featured a drag race, probably 300' or so between a model T and a high-wheel bike. The high-wheeler would make a big loop and approach the start line at a moderate pedal speed and the T would take off from a dead stop. High-wheeler won every time.
