I picked 1.5 of these at a swap meet yesterday. It had a Model T sticker on it not that it means anything.
I guess they are a period accessory to improve economy/performance on any car at the time.
Has anybody tried one?

You don't need a water injector or vapor injector with modern gasoline. Modern gasoline has much higher octane equivalency than a Model T would ever need, and carbon build up in the cylinders won't be an issue when using modern oil and modern gasoline.
Water injectors were used in the past to reduce carbon buildup and increase fuel octane...

I was aware several N (RS) were sent to Russia. However I didn’t/don’t know if any Model K were sent. I think this is a late 06 K, but can’t be sure. It also may be one of two 06 sent to Berlin in the summer of 06. I agree, it looks like an officers field cap, overcoat and maybe riding boots. I found some interesting period articles....

I will soon be bringing home a 1910 Touring car with an open valve gallery and have a few questions

2. Would a tacky lube like a motorcycle chain oil be good to use?

Usually the passages can be cleaned by soaking in carburetor cleaner overnight. Then the next day blow out with compressed air. You can also run a fine wire through as far as it will go. Use stainless steel wire so it won't break off in the passage. Put the nozzle right up to the passages inside the carburetor. This will force the obstructions...

To build on what Keith wrote - I don't have a generator either. My Odyssey battery rides under the back seat and is kept charged by a John Regan Hot Shot charger that uses the magneto to charge the battery (AC to pulsating DC.) The LED's don't draw much current and the Hot Shot keeps the battery fully charged.

Does a spec exist for the installed ID of the TT axle bearing sleeve?
What about a spec for the bearing area on the axle itself?
Last post
Hi Mike,
Yes, it is a full 'wrap' but with the ends cut in a chevron to match shape of the sleeve, just a shade shorter.
As the shim goes right around the gap it closes is twice the thickness of the shim.
It is also the full length (or width?) of the sleeve as well.

A thermostat is not needed on a stock Model T system.
The engine will run most efficiently at 190 to 200 F.
I don't think a thermostat would contribute to uniform engine temperature unless a water pump was also installed. Absent a water pump, a thermostat might contribute to temperature imbalance by restricting circulation.

As I understand it, it has to do with the ramp to fire time. In other words, how fast the coil energizes before it releases its spark.

Any suggestions for Spencer Fatman steering wheel removal?

I recently picked this up and need to know the secret for removing it from the steering column. The wheel spins freely, so the lock is not engaged. Is the key required to remove the center cover in order to get to the retaining nut?

On another note, on cleanup, I found the name of a previous owner inscribed on one of the spokes, Fred Robert Falck of Lignite, North Dakota. A quick search shows that likely family members still reside in Lignite.

I hope it goes well ! I assume you didn't opt for a pig in a poke . If the shop has a good reputation and you're acquainted with the work they do, all will be well. Even better if they'll work with you so you can provide any necessary oversight.

Langs supplied a new gear reduction 12 volt starter for my 1914 Ford. Easy installation, just a couple of things to keep in mind.
I suggest you use 2 gaskets when installing. There is minimal clearance between the pinon gear and the flywheel ring gear. The new starter has an oil seal in the starter that makes the pinon gear slow to return after...

I agree with Dick. I have had 5500 trouble free miles with my WOSP geared starter. I have a high compression head and there were times with my Ford starter that if the engine was hot the starter couldn't crank it over. I'd have to get out and hand crank it beyond compression for the starter to work. This was with a recently rebuilt original Ford...

The wiring on our Canadian cars follows the body/chassis/spare tyre carrier as a unit and the spring movement plays no part in working on the wiring. The little spring loaded fibre piece is there purely to maintain tension on the wire to stop if flapping around once it leaves the last support grommet on the rear of the battery carrier. Hi all,
I will be replacing the bendix spring on my starter. The spring loops at the ends don't line up. What problems would that pose? I've read here that the loops should line up.
Thanks,
John
Last post
New springs usually have the two holes lined up. Many, if not most working bendix assemblies when removed, will have the spring deformed somewhat and the holes out of line. it is the nature of the beast. I just carry a complete spare assembly in my tool box, just in case.

Why not just map the position of the starter button and drill the floorboard to suit? At least that way any differences between cars will be negated and your drilled hole will be concentric to your particular starter button.

As Kevin said, use ARP 12 points nuts- they give you a lot more clearance. I like to horizontally split the pan wall with a small diameter cutoff wheel in a die grinder before forming the dimples as I've found the pan distorts less from the dimpling operation. Either way works, but with the split wall, the pan rail surface does not distort as much.

The oil slingers shown are too thin and will break. I have seen a setup like what you show last for about 20 minutes before breaking. Also they are not needed, The teeth on the flywheel ring sear will move lots of oil. I have a Scat crankshaft in my car with no slingers and have run it hard for many miles without any problems.

Hi all, just wondering what the current news is about new gas tanks. Are there plans to reproduce them? Are they available now? I've been away a couple of years and have'nt heard any updates. Someone boasted here on the forum that he was going to reproduce them, so I thought maybe that anouncement was premature by several years.

Should new Before 1912 coils produce as hot a spark as the After 1912 New Coils.
I am helping a friend get his 1912 running better and the spark is very weak.
The col box is in an excellent original condition and the coils were all new a few years ago.
They all have a different block letter on them that seems to have no meaning either!

Engine serial number

I have recently purchased a 1927 Model TT and am doing a bit of research on it. The engine serial number is SC749255. Obviously the C is Canadian but I dont know what the S is for. Also the number is much higher than known list of Canadian engine serial numbers. Does anyone have any further information? Thanks John Ernst

I agree with Bushmike. It is a beautiful T. On my '27 the frame number is accessible by removing the floorboards The number is stamped on the top frame rail just ahead of the right door opening. I am however, assuming that this would be the same for Canadian T's.

Hello, I am in the beginning of doing a front end rework and when I got the axle off I noticed that the top of the “forks” the spindle goes into and rides on are severely dished on both sides. What is advised in this situation, I had thought of welding on excess material and then milling it to flat original dimensions, however I have no clue what...

The flange on the replacement bushing might be thick enough to fill the gap after facing. Face the dish to make flat on the bushing sides (there was/is a tool for that). If the gap at the bottom is too large with spindle installed, install a brass thrust washer to fill the gap. Most of the wear is on the underside of the top, the axle sits on the...

ALL the current clinchers except Blockley are made in the same Vietnamese factory. They are all made to the same standards, of the same materials. They are essentially all the same tire. The high price for Firestones is for their appearance and for licensing the name, not better quality. Blockley tyres are also made in Vietnam, but by a different...

Concerning the “black era” model t side lamps (1916-25) were the lamps interchangeable? It seems like the only thing distinguishing between left and right is the font. Can the fonts be used interchangeably?
Last post
The body of the cowl lamp has the bayonet lock with the left and right side cutaways for the wick adjusting knob shaft.
Place the font with the burner assembly so the adjusting shaft and knob exit for left or right car mount.

My recent purchase of a 1927 Model TT truck. I have a few questions about the carburetor choke and spray needle. From what I can see it has the later version Holly NH carburetor that has the drain centred on the bowl (T6202) rather than offset drain like the earlier ones, however the spray needle is the 1920-1926 style (T6213). Is there any...

I took my Bendix apart and noticed the shaft stop nut has holes on either side that almost line up with a section of the end of the shaft. It looks like there should be some kind of pin to hold the stop nut on. Is there a part missing? See photo.
Thanks,

#4 made me smile. That map probably only has 3 roads marked on it. And on the mileage selector chart, for a lot of the destinations, it probably says: You can't get there from here!
I have an early touring book that has 2 roads, and a cow marked on it. Wonder what they did when the cow died?

Fast and rapid are relative terms. A horse pulling a wagon at 8 mph or a TT truck at 15 mph? Which one is faster?
Most people today think a model T is so very slow. However to people that grew up when the the horse was the most common mode of local transportation, a model T was like lightning fast!

Did Ford Motor Company continue to date the engine block casting until the end of the Model T production, or did they cease dating the blocks earlier?

I understand that Canadian cast engine blocks continued having the casting dates on them until about the end of model T production there. I don't know that for absolute certainty, however that is what has been said in past discussions.
One of the model Ts I used to have had an American two valve cover block with a 1921 casting date on it.

I took each plug out and looked inside and all looks very clean with possibly replacement valves. I did a compression test and...

This is the reason I like having an auxiliary transmission on my TT. I can get a true neutral every time with an auxiliary transmission which eliminated the sticky clutch problem. Either way, I’m sure to chock the front wheels every time I start it, just to be sure.

Most of you are aware of sub-standard parts, but this one is important. I'm trying to help a new member with an original 1915. He needs the correct axle housing caps for the car, and they are not available. I think that is disgusting with the number of pre 1919 T's on the road today. I don't want to hear any crap about shimming them up either!
Last post
Be careful when checking original unused caps if they are the early version or later version.
Ford did make some of the earlier smaller diameter caps with with the flange on them.
The ID of the caps should be 2.382-2.384 on the earlier smaller caps if NOS and 2.429-2.431 on the later NOS larger caps.
We have a few pairs of NOS smaller diameter...

My two test units, for me, give a correct indication of current draw for coil setting and adjustment, either AC or DC. The AC unit has a step down transformer of 8, 16, 24 volts AC at 10 amps (top left). The DC unit relays on a 6/8 volt battery for voltage and current.
