An Early Reliable Car Clock

This early 1912 car clock has Reliable on the face, but there seems to be no information on whether that is the model of this clock or the name of the company that made the clock.
While I have been repairing clock for over 60 years, I have never seen one like it.
I am still wondering if it is worth repairing.
Does anyone have one in good...

Where can I find 12-24 screws for my 27 coupe dash?

Trying to put together my 27 coupe and looks like all my dash screws and swing arm bracket screws are all 12-24. Mine was a Canadian car and had Robertson oval head 12-24 screws, but they are in rough shape and some broke trying to remove. I bought the interior trim screw package from Snyder’s but it didn’t have any of the right size. Anyone know...

Just about all those screws were also used in the Early Model A Fords.
If I had lots of time, I would make a cross reference of all the 1926-1927 parts used on the Model A Fords.
One is the little handle that turns off the gas to the carb is no longer available, but the handle used on the early Model As can be used, if you cut off the finger on...

This is a project I've been thinking about for a while.
Allot of the roads where I live are pretty rough so I decided to install one of the steering dampener cylinders on my roadster. It worked well but soon began to leak and whenever I went over a bump the metal tube dust shield on the cylinder would make a crashing or ringing sound... I don't...

What about the tie rod fails? Is it because the tube is hollow? or old ? or?
Could a solid tie rod be engineered and replace the old 1 and not be damaged by the dampner?

Help identifying parts

modeltbarn » Wed Apr 19, 2023 3:59 pm
I found some lights that aren't T, and I'm hoping someone can identify them.
The bullet lights are approximately 8-5/8 diameter at the rim where the bezel would go.
The drum light body is approximately 8 , and 8-1/2 at the outside of the front lip and band.
Many thanks!!!!

Quality of castings makes a big difference on just how far one can push their luck and maybe get away with it? I think you have an NH float. They are the same size as the L4 float but the hinge is taller from the top of the float to the pivot point. The Briggs float is fitted to an L4, An original L4 float will fit an L2 but it is smaller diameter. An original L2 float and float hinge are available reproduction for less than $40 total.

That's the ticket Scott. I was averse to using a brass fitting, given the weight of these devices. The wrap round support bracket makes good sense too. Odd that it does not appear in the advertisement. If I have to make those too, the time taken will add up.

Harvey, if you have Hayes rims, you most likely have Hayes felloes. Hayes rims have a foot on the lug which requires an indent in the felloe to allow that foot to clear the outer rolled lip. The only way Hayes rims will fit other wheels is if the felloes have been modified to fit the Hayes rims.
Fixed lug rims are designed to wedge onto the inner...

I was at an estate sale today that had quite a few Model T parts, including a 26 or 27 touring project. I picked up a bundled gasket set for a low price that included 4 unused head gaskets. The head gaskets look just like the copper sandwich head gasket that I've used before, but the thin face sheets are steel instead of copper.

I have not had an issue with steel. As with copper, I paint with silver paint.
I agree water soluble oil or antifreeze over straight water should be used.
I have had several copper gaskets fail from the rear right steam hole out.

I was at the home of our Mr T today. He's been making up a demonstration motor out of bits, the prime factor being that it shouldn't cost anything to make work.
The present task was to make up a usable magneto. He'd got the base sorted out, and was in the process of re-wrapping some rather dubious looking coils.
I've always been a bit skeptical...
Last post
In terms of testing the coils, a solenoid fed with a mains frequency sine wave would also work.

Magneto interference with LED turn signals

I’ve got a stand-alone 12 volt system on my T to power tail lights, front markers and rear turn signals. It functions fine with the engine off but will not flash the turn signals when the engine is running. The system has worked perfectly for 5 years with a magneto-less engine in the car. Now, with a different engine and a very healthy mag,...

I finally resolved this issue by installing a new flasher. Nothing else made any difference.
Thanks for updating, was the new unit the same make/model?

In an effort to help with ideas on how we can make Chickasha pre-war swap meet a must go to event, what would you do.

I think it goes without saying that it needs a Rebranding or Market Makeover. The Lack of Sponsorship or Club backing is troubling. A Successful swap is an event, a festival fun for all. I attend or set up at 6-8 swaps a year, this is my 4th consecutive year at Chickasaw. I plan to set up next year and have reservations already set.

It’s time for me to consider the intake manifold for my Akron-Hed project... I’ve considered almost every currently available manifold as a donor to be cut up and modified, and nothing seems to align with the look that I want.
I am going to run 2 of my new Winfield S-B downdrafts... and want to run a plenum style intake manifold. I really like...

I researched past forums but no one asked/answered this. Learned a lot about moly... non moly, zerk fittings, etc. I recently bought a ‘14 runabout and changed the oil just to have a time frame of new oil. Also want to grease all 5 grease cups. I unscrewed the large U Joint grease cup and spied a brownish grease. I like Mobile red non moly...

You mean the ring and pinion isn’t lubricated with 30 W non detergent Steve ??😜😜😂... just kidding. Thanks for all responses. I’ve decided not to mix grease - just take the full grease cup cap to a trusted auto parts guy and buy a tube of the same non moly stuff.

I ordered an upper coolant outlet to replace my old one which is rusty enough to be flaking apart like an apple turnover. The new part will come either unpainted or in some kind of primer.
Either way, to match the engine, the outlet will need to be painted black. Now, I have an old can of black Rustoleum laying around and for a little part like...

No problem. It will be fine. If it's glossy and you don't like that for chassis parts, like me, just scuff it up with steel wool before you install it.

In MHO, the article is a vast simplification of what made the Model T so successful.
I prefer to describe it as a large number of interrelated compromises that ultimately proved successful. The study of those compromises has fascinated me for over half a century.

That was probably a rather expensive acessory, but in Northern states it would make sense.
A duplicate, but with the roofline dropped about 3 , would make a stylish sedan or coupe out of a ragtop T.
One reason for the high rooflines back in the day was the fact that most people wore hats, and some womens' hat styles added about a foot to their...

I did something dumb; something embarrassingly amateurish. While reinstalling the upper radiator hose fitting on the front of my aluminum high-compression head, I cross-threaded one of the two bolts into the soft aluminum and now the bolt won't screw more than halfway in, and at something of an odd angle, at that.

One steel head I bought had the holes drilled slightly larger and tapped with a Metric size.
That has worked well in the past for the 14-24 screws in the Bendix cover too.

Dish soap and water and a nylon scrub brush should suffice.
Years ago on modern cars, I always used Westleys Bleche-Wite and a brass bristle whitewall brush on new whitewalls to remove the blue protectant and as part of my regular car washing routine. However, Bleche-Wite is caustic (or at least back then it was) and, over time, does more harm...
