Sure seems like one of those easy tasks to check off your list in short order on a rainy day. Well, it isn’t. I did one, for the first time, this afternoon, and must say that it took a good 50% of my mechanical ingenuity along with about 4 hours of my afternoon to accomplish. The result was perfect, but man, I never expected to incorporate the...

I'm sure many manufacturers besides Ford availed themselves of the same paint. I wonder who made it ??
The any color so long as it's black legend is misunderstood. The economy of gilsonite black and its durability dictated black pigment, because the varnish made by cooking gilsonite in drying oils was too dark to allow for pigments other than...

The lever will not tire, and its position can be readily checked with a glance, if need be. Proper adjustment of the linkage is important whether you use the pedal or the lever to hold the car in neutral . It seems like most Model Ts have been upgraded over the almost over 100 years since 1908 and 1927. Certainly engine numbers showing blocks that have been added or upgraded and made by Ford up until 1941 are not an indicator.

Tire wear indicating mileage

Wondering if there is a general consensus regarding tire wear by mileage?
I have a 26 Tudor that is due for a new set of tires.
These are 21” Universal brand. I do not have a speedometer so the mileage on this set of tires is a geusstimation.
Anybody out there have a similar car with accurate mileage on a set of compatible tires?
Dave
Last post
No terribly practical, but, the fronts can be turned around to pick up the lesser worn side created by the camber.
I am sure this would have been done in the depression era to get those last miles from tires.

I believe that in modern cars the side windows are tempered glass but the windshields are laminated safety glass. I just replaced the glass in my 1930 Plymouth with laminated safety glass all around. It was hard to find someone who will work with that stuff these days but they are out there.

Yes, rounding the bottom edge is PART of the fix as it reduces the amount of reintroduced wear. Unfortunately, under full flex, you are still crashing over the edges left on the tops of the leaf if they are not removed, and thus are not enjoying the best ride the car can potentially give.
I offer this bit of extra information for anyone...

While cleaning out a few things this afternoon I came across this tap. It is marked STEVENS NEW YORK and is before the change/addition of the Walden Worcester to the logo. It is marked 1/2 14 and it measures out as such, 1/2-14. The only thing that I could think of or come across is the tap for the T-201 Oversize Tap and Bolt Set for Ford Cylinder...

Here we see a gathering of British T Ambulances, possibly newly delivered to the front?

The chapter that this picture came from followed a wounded 'Tommy' from when he was hurt stage by stage through until he reached England. A very interesting description of the process. As such much of the detail was not given as to locations, just generic areas (i.e. 'the Somme').
Transport went from being carried by mates, stretchered,...

I haven't been around many Chalmers cars. I did see this 1913 in 1968 and was able to identify a chassis a friend had by the footman loop on the front fender. They seemed like mighty fine cars.

More pictures would be interesting.
Ford had good reasons not to use a tank cooling system.
If more cooling is actually needed, rather than radiator service, adding something like a heater core might be helpful. It would have to be plumbed the way the radiator is plumbed in order for the thermosyphon principle to function. Finding space for it...

Has anyone seen these before? Unfortunately we cant see the rear pad or shackle. I have to wonder if its a legit aftermarket kit or homemade.

Now that would make a nice talking point on your TT.
Go for it! I would seriously try to outbid you if I was in the USA :-)

I have recently found myself admitted to Colorado School Of Mines and want to drive my 26 Roadster Pickup from my home in Truckee California To Golden Colorado. I am wondering if there are any other young members that are bound for more eastward colleges that would like to form an antique automobile convoy of sorts?
It's a crazy Idea but...

This plant made engines and gears during the Piquette era. I've not seen much if anything on that plant. Does it exist today? Did Ford own this building, or was it a rental?
Last post
Larry,
If we are all talking about the same plant, the Ford Manufacturing Co. location at 773 Belvue (old address) then 6 cyl plant at 773 Belvue, no, I don’t believe any T work was completed there. The 773 Belvue plant came into existence to build/assemble Model N motors in 1906. In mid 1907, Ford Motor bought Ford Manufacturing and transferred...

1926 Brake drum Bushing

Iam trying to confirm that the 26-brake drum had only one bushing and not two.
I remember reading it somewhere before but can't find it again and all the diagram pictures I find have the early brake drums.
any guidance is appreciated.

I, too, have bored and fit them. But really, 3 bushings spread across 2 semi-precise parts creating a 3-bushing assembly is not a really great design. I don't think they saved 2 cents on a bushing, I think they saved 50 cents in farting around and making sure the 3 were all in a line. I don't know your exact method, but mine takes time,...

I am in the process of hooking up and adjusting the emergency or parking brakes and realized I have differences in the ends of the rods where they attach to the brake cam lever. I am attaching a photo showing the differences. My car is a 1924 Touring and the rods that were on the car are the two on the right. McCalley and the judging guidelines...

Two of the brake rods shown look to have welded yoke ends on them. I don’t think Ford ever welded the ends on original brake rods. They had forged ends on them.
Looks like the repos were welded with mig welding.(wire feed). Maybe others might know for sure but those welded on ends are a dead giveaway they aren’t original.

I would like to hear from people who have driven both Rocky Mountain Brakes and Sure Stop Disk Brakes before I make a decision for my 1924 Coupe. I currently have Sure Stop Disk Brakes on my 1915 Touring and they do work excellent but do not look like they belong. Most people would never notice but I do. In my Opinion Rocky's look the part but how...

Hi Norman,
Sounds like you have a set of the original Rockies, good for you. Henrys moto on model A's & some later cars was nothing but steel from
peddle to wheel. The problem with driving a model T as it was intended is 99% of the people you encounter are not driving model T's.
Nor know anything about them.

He passed away last year. I have a pair of his step plates, and the pair that he was using for the casting patterns.

Wonderful to see, flat bed press blocks. Think of the progress in typography. Some of these might have formed up pages composed with loose type; most likely with line-o-type. Next came the rotary presses, Ford would have provided fiber composite mats of their ads to cast the hot metal plates for the press rolls. The hot metal presses were made...

This has happened to me twice now and I'm at a loss what is incorrect on a starter when the balance ring/counter weight hits the flywheel
with enough force to break it? I have one starter that has had a spacer installed on he shaft to prevent this ( I assume ) This starter doesn't
have excessive end play. The pinion is twice as long as the ring...

Hi Adam,
Ring gear is on correctly.
Terry,
That is one of the reasons why I replace the Key, bolts & spring every year. I have found them in poor shape before, even on the ones that
have never seen 12 volts.
Someday I will set down and convert all of them to 12 volt at one time.

Does anybody recognize these hubs? They take the same bearings as a Model T front hub. The one on the right was actually machined for a AC Speedometer gear, although it was brazed on. Model T hub caps fit on them also. They have a ring that is used on the outside. I believe the wheel would be clamped between the hub and outer ring. I’m not sure...

How to balance a flywheel?

A triple gear seized and spun the pin, and wallowed out the hole, so the flywheel is toast. When I have the magnets on the new flywheel and it's ready to install, I'll need to balance it. I would really prefer not to undo all the caps and rods and remove the crank shaft from the engine. If I sandwich the flywheel between two transmission shafts,...

What was the clearance of the triple gear bushing to pin diameters when you assembled that transmission?

Thanks to youse guys, the friend's 1925 horn under discussion in the last few days has been fixed and mounted back on the engine. The horn sounds great! Any progress?
Unfortunately not. Other Model A and T repair work will have to take precedence and be attended to first. I think this rusty horn project will have to be an as time allows kind of deal now, especially since it will require so much tedious cleaning of tight and delicate areas on the horn's motor. It will after all be necessary to...

I've been watching the SuperfastMatt channel for a while as he builds a landspeed car, convert's a '50s Jag to a Tesla drive train, and puts a motorcycle engine in a Honda S200. Today's video is comparing the Ford Model T to the Tesla Model Y. It's a fun 17m video folks here might find interesting.

The video was good. Though comparisons like these make me feel I’ll. I would like to be a fly on the wall 100 years from now watching forum members on the MYTCA debate over a NOS computer screens verses a repop  or trying to find a original battery or proprietary software program.
