Anderson Timer- technical question

I am in the process of fine tuning some Anderson Timers that I own and I need some dimensions.
Look at the image-
A - I need the distance between the point of contact on the terminals where the flapper strikes the terminal.
B - I need the distance between the point of contact on the terminals and the inner rim of the timer case.
Thanks-...

As I remember Frank Fenton was the guy I bought an Anderson timer from several years ago
at Chickasha. He had a display board set up showing the accuracy of the timing and firing of an Anderson. Seems like he was the first one making a quality reproduction of the Anderson. He was a really knowledgeable guy who would rebuild an original.

Some of us like to travel by Model T. T travelers use various methods to find their way. GPS devices, Google maps, and Delorme atlases are popular sources. Video camera microphones are poor at picking up some sounds, but maybe you can hear the knock. My 1915 runabout ran normally when I shut it off. But the next time I started it there was a definite knock because of some maintenance I did. The fix was simple.

More compression will get you more power across the engine's entire speed range. More cam lift and duration will get you better power at higher engine speeds. A stock or mild performance cam will generally give better low speed power and response.

Model T Braking

Model T Braking
As part of our semi-annual mechanical inspection necessary to register the car and use it on the road, the inspector has to test the braking.
A modern version of the 'Tapley Meter' is used. It measures the forces when the brakes are applied using an accelerometer.
Anyway, the minimum reading to 'pass' is 50 (somethings!)...
Last post
... so, since the originator of this thread won't 'fess up ... rumour has it that his Model T actually had better braking than another vehicle he has, despite it (the T) missing vital suspension and exhaust components ;-)
Also, Mr W, apropos our earlier discussion - it's not really how you spell 'really'

When I restored my '16 Touring in 2008 I installed a new top, new sockets and new laminated top bows.

The rod penetrated about 3 - 4 into each side.
It has held up well.

I ordered a radiator from Langs this week. Steve informed me the lead time is 186-203 days. The order gets drop shipped to the manufacturer. I guess the xmas boy is going to get a picture of his present. That is OK with me. He does not deive in the snow anyway.
I am not complaining. Just letting everyone know how long it might take so schedule...

Dave: I ordered a flat tube for my '26 coupe on March 2 this year from Lang's. It was drop shipped from Brassworks September 9 and arrived by ups the following week. 8.5 Benjamins for the radiator and 1.5 to pack and ship. It was worth the wait. YMMV, but probably not much, take care, jb

I needed the rear spring eyes spread an additional 1-1/4 to line up the shackle pins. This setup worked like a charm.
Particularly helpful IMO were the 2x3 under the two shackle eyes, and the vertical 2-bys that held the spring and the 2x3 in alignment.
Alternating half-turns on the centre C-clamps pulled the eyes smoothly into slip-fit...

Gas lines supplied by Ford were brass. I've had NOS examples, and good used ones also. They are plated. My question is what is the plating? Is it tin or zinc, or something else?
Last post
Any tubing made up from a flat sheet of brass would require tinning and soldering. Steel tubing, seamless or rolled, would benefit from corrosion protection offered by tinning. I'd think a soldered, seamed tube would be very prone to seam failure from flexing and vibration, but apparently that was not the case.

I would use the stock #2910 pack nut and #6154 elbow. A bit of neoprene fuel hose that fits inside the pack nut makes a good leak-proof gasket.

The bolt must be straight. The backing plate must be straight also, so the bolt hole is square to the backing plate. The backing plates will take bending to correct any deformity. You might need a couple of large crescent wrenches to manipulate the backing plate into shape.

That was a good diagnosis. Too bad it was not the first test you made. It can, however, be deceiving, sometimes they will run at idle or level, but will misfire when pulling, because the compression is higher when the throttle is open, which it is on a pull. So that one is even a bit harder to find.

This is by far the hardest drawing I have yet to draw. The problem is that in other Model T's components were pretty much bolt on and them slap on the next assembly. Not so with 26-27 the Improved Cars , some thing in them are integral to the construction of the car...like the fuel tank. It doesn't sit on the chassis, like all the previous cars...

Sorry if someone has already pointed this out, but the Fordor has a shorter scuttle to provide more interior space. Hence no room for a tank there.

I cannot find original mirrors for my T. Dealers have nice looking mirrors for hinge mount but they are labeled for model A. Has anyone used them and what if any modification is required?

I bought a nice set rom Chaffin's several years ago. At that time, they were lefts and rights. Talk to Dave see what he has now. Depending on which side they can be above the hinge or below.

Is there a way you can make a homemade shim out of (something) for a Motometer? Lately, ours has not lined up straight, and has a tendency to vibrate loose very quickly. What material could you use? Thank you!

this is in no way intended to be argumentative, but other than opening up the holes a Teeny Tiny bit, they worked just fine on my car. Perhaps mine, bought some years ago, were made by someone else. Good luck and have fun with your project.

For Duane -- Yes, I'm 99% sure that your 7 17 393430 represents a Jul 1917 393430 body number.
For Ryan -- Zooming in I agree that the first visible number is a 4 (see below). Some of the other numbers are hard to know for sure -- but not critical -- as so far none of them appear to be the date code for the body.

I’m sure this is a newbie question, but when I went to remove this plug’s cable, it’s terminal unscrewed from the porcelain. Is this common and repairable, or is it time for new plug? Also, even though the plug’s terminal is loose on the cable terminal, the knurled nut won’t unscrew from the stud.

Yes, like Mark G says, they will usually work in a pinch that way. I did that twenty to thirty years ago. Ran it for maybe fifty miles just stuck together.
The silly thing is, that many dozens of after-market fuel savings or cleaner burning devices are nothing more than a manufactured stable secondary in line spark gap. In theory, in fact, adding...

That’s a great idea of using a lift device for a transmission cover. I’ll bet these aren’t the first rigging that’s been used for that purpose. It would make things easier for sure. Maybe others can post a picture of how they did I it.

How much does a brass T chassis weigh?

Any idea what a chassis, with motor and rad with fluids, plus tires weighs?
Thinking of looking for a very light trailer.
Thanks,
Rob
Last post
Thanks guys. I think the racer motor weight is more. Aluminum crankcase but 300 cu in cylinder jug area make it heavier. Going with a T flywheel should make it similar but a little heavier. Now to see if it will fit in a smaller trailer. The frame is 2” longer than standard.
Cheers,
Rob

I agree with Steve. They are likely Hayes rims. The relief in the felloe will take the Hayes rims with the foot on the lug. However, this means they can also take other brand rims with fixed lugs, so any fixed lug rim will suit.

Depending on how far it is and how soft the bottom is, and how far from shore they might be able to drive the first one out but need to keep the carburetor from drawing water. If it will start. The second one will defanatly need help to get it out. No cell phone in those days, so they will have to walk. Hopefully not very far.

After reading the previous bulb horn posts, it’s clear that I need someone to repair my horn.
Can anyone recommend someone that can repair my 1911 bulb horn?
Last post
The inside diameter of any replacement hose would affect the operation of the horn. An ID close to the original would be best. If a larger ID hose, or a longer one, is used, a larger bulb would probably compensate.

Steve. Sounds like you have a mixture of parts. Which brand are you trying to put together? Any of the four major brands would just use the truck rear end for a TT. A Ruckstell is not needed but of course would be desired. The geared Snowflyer hubs were only sold for T rear ends and later Model A's. The buggy springs and wood top skis sound like...
