Model T videos.

IDK if anyone here is interested but I just shot a barn find video on bringing a 27 Fordor back from the dead after 10 years of gathering dust in a shed. It is being uploaded tonight and should go live Monday. How to restore a lead acid battery (instead of buying a new one) is in editing (for the same Model T) and I'll be filming the adjustment of...
Last post
I will be keeping you in mind going forward. It's such a pain to work around the camera on a tripod but I agree - it does create a better video. Playing with the editing software, the more stabil I add the jerkier the video gets! In the faux pro stabil on makes the radiator cap jiggle and somehow the camera glued to the windshield pans sideways on...

I would think so. I imagine you'd have to remove the brake band first, then slide the low band back and remove it, then slide the reverse down and do it last.
Last post
As Jerry eluded to, yes but you'll need to bring one band at a time back near the clutch spring & past the internal brake pedal boss in order to drop the attached ear down into the abyss whilst removing the detachable ear then remove the band.

I am still trying to figure out the body placement issue that is causing the hood to be a tight fit on my 22 RPU. I found that I have the wrong frame to firewall brackets for my metal firewall. I think this is contributing to the issue. I want to fully understand the issue before I do anything. Today I crawled under the car and took out some of...

FYI - the two things that had to happen when the firewall was switched to steel was: a) cup-spacers were installed between the old brackets and new/thinner firewall, or b) as you know now, new firewall brackets with increased back-set were purchased...your previous owner knew neither of these things!
FWIW - I suspect your car may actually be...

Installing speedometer on a Freinds speedster and the inside cable is about one inch to short, is there a way to shorten housing?
Thanks 1F07BCA9-D2D2-4070-A5B7-0CC38DC1718E.jpeg

The speedometer pictured is a high speed speedometer. It takes a 1:1 drive and not a 2.5:1 drive. It appears that the road gear and the swivel drive will not run the speedometer accurately. The cable should be around 48 long, and the length of the outer housing can be shortened. I hope this helps, Russ Furstnow

Still going through my TT.
I have two shifters. One next to the parking brake. The other located in the center of the cab.
The one next to the parking brake controls the shift lock assembly. The center stick connects to a drive shaft box (?).
Could use some clarification from the experts as to the function of each.
Many thanks in advance.

Don't bet on the Rocky Mountain being a six speed! Every Rocky Mountain or Universal in-line shifting rear-mounted three/six auxiliary transmission that I saw or had for a model T or TT had a bulge in the center casing. This one has enlargements front and rear which is how the two speed transmissions usually had.
Basically, all the two speed...

The rear seat pan on this 1915 touring has a pressed X shape, similar to a commercial kitchen hood. Not sure if its old or a repro.
For people with original condition cars, or knowledge of the same, what should this pan look like? Were there varieties of pan styles based on the body manufacturer, or did Ford specify a specific design?
Not sure...
Last post
Yeah, I believe there were about five different companies building bodies that year for touring cars and runabouts. Beyond that, production delays and rush orders caused designs to change even within given builders that one year! I am not really familiar with the touring back seats, but runabouts and touring front seats varied greatly that year....

Bees wax was widely used in older radio and TV sets to seal paper/foil capacitors and some RF coils and chokes.
I never encountered any wax in transformers. Transformers were potted in what appeared to be tar, very much like that found in Model T coils. The wax was often found to have softened from heat and dripped.

This Texas family T was photographed in 1937 going to California. They were migrants going to pick fruit. The owner told the photographer they were moving there and taking what they had with them. Check out the spare that’s strapped to the hood.

I'm trying to attach the spare tire carrier to the goose neck on my 26 Touring. The three studs look like 1/2 x20 fine threads. Is this correct? I've read that the original ones were a thin nut. Fact or fiction.
What about the bolt that holds the rim on? Looks like a 3/8 x 24?

After reading a few items on the forum, I think it is time to explain speedometers in some detail.
First: No speedometer manufacturer ever expected their speedometers to be around in 110 years! Most manufacturers used pot metal in their speedometers (Jones and Corbin used only brass and steel), and this metal was a good metal at the time when...

I hear ya Pat. Everything has a natural frequency to accentuate vibrations and the fact that these speedos are hard mounted to the wood firewall makes the transmission of the vibrations even easier. Mounting one on rubber or small shock mounts might help even though you would still have the direct rigid connection from the cable. Anyway it's not...

Hi,

Windshield hinges
Taillight bracket for a touring body
Front fender brackets
If anyone is willing to sell me any of these items I am willing to negotiate prices.
Please email me at kristian.thurber@comcast.net

I have seen original 1913 models with two types of front fender irons. The earlier ones are round in cross section frame side of the headlight fork hole, while later ones are triangular in the same area like the later more common type. Others may be able to be more definitive on this.

Help 1913 Touring steering issues

So I purchased a 1913 touring it seems to have a over steer problem. So when you turn the steering wheel all the way to the left at the sharpest left turn the tires start to go right. Drag link is correct for the year and I see no major issues. Now if the car is up on a jack it doesn’t do it any tips???

Check that the spring Pearches are not transposed, the odd number is the left side, and the even number is the right side. You wouldn't notice the difference by just looking at them, but the steering will be wild.

Remember, there are a baffles on each side of the drain hole. You might need to use a round file or use a Driemle tool to get clearance for the tap.

Hi Dan,
I'm impressed getting the bolt out is usually when I break the impeller. It looks like you have the shaft out. If it is smooth and tight you can
probably repack it with new, clean repaint, and use. ( At your discretion) Keep in mind the packing stuffing nut is also a bushing, also remove
all the old packing.

Pat, you raise a good point. Bright long distance LED lights wash out the colour of what is down the road. The hole in the body is fixed. The shape of the door is fixed. You can juggle the set of the hinges and the striker plates to get a better fit within the hole.
You can also affect the twist in the door to make it better fit the body lines by fitting a twist bar if necessary. Duncan and Fraser used a 2 wide piece of 1/8 thick flat steel for this....

Using Ospho

This is Model T related because Ospho can be used to neutralize rust on a Model T body. Ospho is a phosphoric acid based solution that converts rust to a black inert substance that ceases to deteriorate metal. Some equate the neutralized rust to a protective primer. I have not used Ospho (www.Ospho.com) in a very long time and need to use it to...

This is about a modern safe fuel line for a Speedster where safety is more important than originality . And yes, Henry's system worked as well as it was designed to , but as a Firefighter...

Here is another real early Model TT truck rear end. It has the beaded center casting, the worm gear end cap (with no high oil filler plug)(I have found two of these no oil fill cap rear ends so far), serial number stamped on the top ( number 20940 )and the rivet piece under the end axle casting ( the brake plate is riveted on).

Thank you Steven, this is great to document. It is interesting, I don't have a complete early diff but do have bits and pieces from them. Well worth documenting.

Someone once told me or I read it somewhere, that such a plug was used in an engine that was using too much oil.
There is another version of the regular long reach Champion X that has two electrodes : It is a Champion #33

Here’s a picture that showed up again today on an old photos site. Supposedly this is, Henry Ford in his first automobile. It’s been around before and if it’s authentic is the car still in existence in its original state or been restored. Probably a common picture.

I believe that I have read that Henry actually built three of the Quadricycles over a couple of years, and sold them all. He then located the original one and got it bought back. The photo above may be of one of the other two. Just speculation.

We know that the last Model T engines were made in August, 1941. But what about replacement blocks? Were the last blocks made then,or earlier, or later? I don't recall ever seeing any information on that.

From what I see in the Encyclopedia I think the Canadian number 748553 would be July or August 1927. Most Canadian numbers begin with C, but some have the SC or HC prefix, and some have no letter at all. The E means 1927, so apparently the block was cast at the end of May and assembled as an engine in July, or Maybe August. I don't know if...

Will internals interchange if needed?
Ultimately will be installing the Rocky Mountain brakes.

While you are trying various solvents, there is always acetone and methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) the latter being PVC pipe cleaner. Both are a little more aggressive than lacquer thinner.
