20220928_111812.jpg Brought this double spare tire carrier yesterday for $40 for my 1914 touring. Assuming that it is correct because it has a narrower spot for the 3 and wider for 3.5 spare. Are there any brackets I'm missing? On my survivor car, you can see where one used to be attached to the top side of the drivers false door. I'm sure it was...

I would strongly suggest finding an industrial grinding shop and have your pan jig reground on a Blanchard type grinder or a large reciprocating surface grinder.
I have a blockmaster in my shop and I'm not sure that's the approach I would take. Actually, I don't think the blockmaster has enough capacity for a pan jig now that I think about it....

I am getting a speedster back on the road. We went with the dual exhaust. I'm looking for a carb that is more period correct.
Currently I have the lawn mower carb WILBRO. But it deserves something better.
The dual exhaust manifold gets in the way of the choke/mixture rod.
Now I am looking for a carb that is pretty close to period correct with...

I adjust the NH mixture setting as needed to get the best results under varying conditions. It will start and run OK at one setting, but fine adjustments, performed as needed, if needed, yield the best results. Ford seemed to agree, if you can believe what they wrote on the subject. The same is true for the timing. It's very laborious to reach...

This maybe a crazy idea, but has anyone ever tried/found a way to change the position of the low speed pedal itself to give more pedal travel when engaging low before you hit the floorboard?

Last post
Scott Condor gave you the answer in the second post.
If the cam is new as you suggest then the adjustment is too loose.
You need to see how far the shaft moves sideways to determine if the pedal is working as it should.
If in new condition the pedal shaft can move the band ear one half an inch to the right (if LHD or RHD) but it only needs less...

The picture is dated 1926. (lower left) The A Model-looking cars may be Dodges or other popular cars that were about 5 years ahead of Ford on styling. Borger hardly existed prior to early 1926. Thirty years ago, I had a 1916 center-door sedan. Supposedly (maybe?) it was a real 1916, however, it had suffered from a bad 1950s restoration. One further thought before you button it up? Buy a foot or two of tar covered cloth conduit loom for the wire loops on the lights? Would really take it over the top for sure. Think I got mine from Renovators Supply?

As Dan says, our original 1926-‘27 sediment bowls do not have the sleeve or a spring. As mentioned, there is no spring because the screen fits perfectly...

Video camera microphones are poor at picking up some sounds, but maybe you can hear the knock. My 1915 runabout ran normally when I shut it off. But the next time I started it there was a definite knock because of some maintenance I did. The fix was simple.

I like the magnet idea. There are also magnetic drain plugs to go along with the oil screen magnet.

More compression will get you more power across the engine's entire speed range. More cam lift and duration will get you better power at higher engine speeds. A stock or mild performance cam will generally give better low speed power and response.

Model T Braking
As part of our semi-annual mechanical inspection necessary to register the car and use it on the road, the inspector has to test the braking.
A modern version of the 'Tapley Meter' is used. It measures the forces when the brakes are applied using an accelerometer.
Anyway, the minimum reading to 'pass' is 50 (somethings!)...
Last post
... so, since the originator of this thread won't 'fess up ... rumour has it that his Model T actually had better braking than another vehicle he has, despite it (the T) missing vital suspension and exhaust components ;-)
Also, Mr W, apropos our earlier discussion - it's not really how you spell 'really'

The rod penetrated about 3 - 4 into each side.

Gas lines supplied by Ford were brass. I've had NOS examples, and good used ones also. They are plated. My question is what is the plating? Is it tin or zinc, or something else?
Last post
Any tubing made up from a flat sheet of brass would require tinning and soldering. Steel tubing, seamless or rolled, would benefit from corrosion protection offered by tinning. I'd think a soldered, seamed tube would be very prone to seam failure from flexing and vibration, but apparently that was not the case.

Kevin P, Thank you for that.
I have never really been a fan of wire wheels on model Ts, excepting of course for the 1926/'27 improved Ts with their welded wire wheels. And of course, on appropriate speedsters, I like them fine! But standard model TS during the model T era simply did not have fancy wire wheels very often. However I always enjoy...

I'm in the process of reassembling a 1911 touring that I'm restoring, and the Holley H1 carburetor has an elbow on it shown in the first picture. I would use the stock #2910 pack nut and #6154 elbow. A bit of neoprene fuel hose that fits inside the pack nut makes a good leak-proof gasket.
For a shutoff I use the sediment bulb valve. With an extension handle under the running board I can close and open the valve without crawling under the car.

The bolt must be straight. The backing plate must be straight also, so the bolt hole is square to the backing plate. The backing plates will take bending to correct any deformity. You might need a couple of large crescent wrenches to manipulate the backing plate into shape.

I see two different styles of replacement stems from Snyder’s and Lang’s, one for wood wheels, and another for wire wheels. Which one, if either, would work for a ‘24 Touring with...

Steve, I doubt that that black rubber stem is the original. It is more likely a replacement for a brass stem. I have two like that in use in my T's, and they have the thicker brass stems.

I had to re-trim the front bow on my 1911. When pounding in the upholstery nails with a leather covered hammer, the bow would bounce around. I don't know why I haven't thought of this before...

Robert, in my posted photo above you can see 2.82V with the battery clamped in place. That just adds to the list of questions.

That was a good diagnosis. Too bad it was not the first test you made. It can, however, be deceiving, sometimes they will run at idle or level, but will misfire when pulling, because the compression is higher when the throttle is open, which it is on a pull. So that one is even a bit harder to find.

This is by far the hardest drawing I have yet to draw. The problem is that in other Model T's components were pretty much bolt on and them slap on the next assembly. Not so with 26-27 the Improved Cars , some thing in them are integral to the construction of the car...like the fuel tank. It doesn't sit on the chassis, like all the previous cars...

Sorry if someone has already pointed this out, but the Fordor has a shorter scuttle to provide more interior space. Hence no room for a tank there.

With the tank out, the rivets can be installed tangs out in the webbing as the factory fitted it, BUT, the two lowest on the sides will need different treatment because the rivets there cannot be inserted due to a double panel precluding same.
