I am in the process of rebuilding some flywheels. Installing new ring gears, like I have done many times before.
Tried to install a new brass screw in a hole about halfway through and would not start. Turns out some chinaman missed tapping it. This is second one I have seen in a couple years. Not sure of the age of this ring gears, but watch out...

These two drag link end caps have been in my stash forever. One opinion is these pressed metal caps were used very early in production. Another branded them cheap, spurious replacements. What say you?
They show very little wear if any on one of them. They certainly have not been filed down like a lot of the later forged type. 20250624_162119.jpg...

Hello everyone,
I would need the clearenc between the clutch shift (transmission clutch slide collar) and the driving plate shaft of a 26/27 engine. What was the factory measurement?
Can someone help me.
My driving plate shaft was badly worn and I turned it off 0.016 inches. Now i do a new transmission clutch slide collar.
Thank you

The subject got me to thinking about hardness on areas of the drive plate. My testing method isn't to sophisticated. I do a file test.
I found the output plate shaft is not hard on the outer surface or inside the square drive hole. File cuts.
Dimensions are consistently 1.560 OD on unworn areas.
Several throw out collars measure 1.570 ID.

Not Model T but I need some assistance
Can someone recommend someone who can make a cushion like the one pictured at a reasonable price? Rough dimensions are pictured but I'm no DaVinci. Whomever does the job can use the existing cushion for more accurate measurements.
It's for my 1923 ALF Brockway Torpedo.
I'm in the Detroit area.
Thanks
Last post
Marty, are you wanting to do the entire seat or just the cushions? Are you wanting it in leather or vinyl??
If Mike doesn't do it, we can do it in my shop. We are doing a frameup restoration a 1935 ALF for a municipality down near Gatlinburg and just finished sewing theirs in leather. I can send pix for reference if you like.

Do new Hartford 30x3-1/2 metal-stem inner tubes from Coker need bridge washers and nuts? Or can they be used like rubber stem tubes?
The old hardware has different threads and does not not fit the new tube stems.
It looks like the new tubes have the stems vulcanized, so is there a need for the bridge washers and nuts?

With brass stems in tubes, new or old replacements, a rusted thin original valve stem hole in the rim is of no real concern. My first go around with putting original metal stems into a modern tube. What’s the best way to pull the old brass core out now that I’ve cut off most of the rubber valve stem? There’s a fair bit to grab on to but it’s bonded to the tube very well. Wanted to ask the experts before I goof.
Last post
I leave the rubber stem stem intact when making the cut around the base. As mentioned, that leaves you something to grip when working the base out of the tube after making the cut. I also make the cut 1/8 or so up from the bottom as shown in the last photo. You may have to 'Work' the cut stem to break the last contact on the brass core to get it...

I recently came across these remnants of a carbide generator.

I believe that is the effect of 100+ year old spun brass that has been exposed to the elements.
The upper chamber is the water reservoir. The lower chamber would have had the acetylene gas.

Does that seal run up the sides of the WS frame to the break in the WS.

That spells out the change orders, but there is some complication when considering Ford vs. K-W production. There are a lot of tongue and groove, 6-screw coils, for example, and that doesn't match up with the change orders.

Levering away at the steering wheel may just cause the steering rod to be loaded on one side of the bush in the lower bracket, masking wear at that point. This bushing is often overlooked even when rebuilding the front axle.

The steering columns in early cars with magneto horns initially had a small tube to carry a single wire up to the switch on top of the column. Mark's comment reminds me that replacement float valves in particular were notorious for the too-hard gaskets that came with them. I made a better one with gasket paper. This is separate from the other common float valve problem of too small an opening which leads to fuel starvation.

Searched through previous posts and was cornfused, so here we go again.
The straight sided felloe will take both Hayes 2845B and Ford 2845B rims? And the rolled side felloe will only take the Ford 2845B?
Last post
The rolled side felloe also has a depression in the rolled edge to accommodate the lug foot on a Hayes rim. Hayes felloes have that depression, and will take Hayes rims and other fixed lug rims. A Hayes rim will not fit if there is no depression.

Outboard is the standard fitment. The large holes in the frame are there to facilitate the removal of the shelves without having to dis-assemble the hood hooks and springs from the shelves. Who knows what the speedster builders were thinking.

Hello. This spring, my brother and I went in together and purchased a Model T. A few years back, he came up with a bucket list idea that he would like to tour Yellowstone Park in an open touring car, and we've been working towards that goal since. Our old man was a high school teacher, and we spent every summer in the 80's and 90's up in Cooke...

Does the top attach to the windshield?

There are a couple flaps at the front of my top that look like they should attach somehow to the top of the windshield, but I don’t see how. When I drive with the top up, the wind lifts the top a bit and the wind blows over windshield.
Last post
Hey Dan. It’s a 22 runabout. Here are a couple of shots of it. You can see the flaps on the top. Looking at it, it looks like it’s coming down enough in front. Maybe the rear straps are too tight.
My guess is that you are right about the rear straps. My T is a '27 that has clamps to the windshield posts, but the flap is clearly a seal between...

I have an important package I need moved west toward Lincoln Nebraska from Richmond IN. Anyone going west after the Reunion would be a help. This package is fragile and would require a secure space inside a car or pickup. About 20” x 20” x 20”. I can meet in St. Louis, Kansas City, Des Moines, Chicago or anywhere west or northwest of Richmond....

Thanks guys. I decided to git er done and made a quick drive (760 miles) from home to the Reunion Friday. Left home at 8:00 a.m., arrived at the Best Western in Richmond about 8:00 Friday night, and back home by 1:00 pm Saturday. I hope to post a story on the package later. Thanks again for the responses here and direct.

Hi all
Picked up lots of boxes of random T parts at Homecoming today. Great day! These 4 glass finials were at the bottom of a tin. Any clue what these could be?
Thank you!

If the thread is 1/4”-27, then they’re identical to the lampshade finials I remember as a kid.

This past weekend, I put a few flags on the car and drove around a bit. I went to work and a few other places, and my flags are already frayed. I've tried flags from the stores, and ones from vendors, and they all seem to shred the ends within the first 20 or so miles of driving! (30 to 35mph) Is there any brand of small, QUALITY American flags...

Another U.S. based supplier to try is Dixie Flag and Banner in San Antonio, Texas. I have no connection with them, nor have I ever knowingly used any of their products. They make all of their flags, in house, except for the small ones you are wanting. Their biggest U.S. flags will cover a football field from sideline to sideline. The small flags...

Hi, I'm pretty new to this hobby, and I'm looking to buy my first T. My dad had a 23 touring that we worked on together, but I want to get a T of my own. I'm looking for a T with a Chrome radiator so 1925-1927. I don't have much of a budget however about $5000-7500 so it'll have to be a project car. I live in southern California but I'm more than...

Adding a drain hole in a Ford-Fathful oiler?

Has anyone added a drain hole at the bottom of the lower plate, so you don't dump so much oil when you take it off? If so, what size did you use? While not a huge amount, it still dumps a lot of oil when you take if off. As most know, a little oil goes a long way making a mess!
Last post
Consider, that when the drain hole is open, it will drain as designed for removal, still filling & keeping full the reservoir pocket that feeds oil out to the front of the motor.
On a related note, the unit shown doesn't have a screen to filter out the chunks. The FF base units I have seen normally have a screen spot welded inside to catch the...

Neway cutter with engine in car.

I have never used a Neway cutter but I hear nothing but high praises about them and I know they are expensive. I own two T's, a 1915 and a 1926. My question is, can you cut the number four cylinder with the engine in the car? I understand that all I need is the 30/60 cutter, the 45 cutter and one adjustable pilot. Thanks, bobt

Mr. T
Plenty of room when I re-cut my seats with a Neway system I was GREATLY privileged to borrow and be guided step by step, to install new valves in my late 23 touring last May. You have my cell # if you want to talk about the process. Richard C

The judging guidelines says the carburetor adjustment was changed in 1925 to a bent rod design. What is that supposed to mean? Here is what I know. Sometime in mid 1925 the carburetor adjusting rod was changed from 3/16 to 1/4 . At that time the 1926 carburetor adjusting rod was changed, but when? The knob is new, the rod is new, AND, the...

The judging guidelines don't go far enough. Ford redesigned the dashboard to accommodate the new style adjusting rod, which is now 1/4 not 3/16 as was used earlier in the year. Because of the new style knob, the indentation for the knob is now recessed deeper into the dash.

I replaced the fan hub in my '26 Runabout. I installed new bushings and had to ream (very slightly) to get the used shaft in. I rubbed grease into the felt washer but the 10W-30 oil slung out quickly. I...

Call the museum to tell them and they might be able to make a special spot for you to display it, and a place to park your trailer.
