I don't use the Upper bridge lock nut because after setting the trembler coil points and I service 5 coils in a batch ...(4 for the vehicle and 1 to go under the seat to help out another vehicle with a dud coil)...to all fire at the same TDC (or point of combustion) for equal ignition timing of the four...

I have put this up before but thought it could use a reboot. All T blocks that come here for work are first given a pressure test. I made tooling and bolt down a head with a reusable rubber gasket. Engine Rear Mounting Brackets
Replies: 10
by
BLB27 » Tue Sep 27, 2022 3:33 pm
First post
I just ran across an article that recommended installing a leather pad between the top of the frame and the rear mounting brackets. Is this a good idea?
Last post
Introducing pads only under the mounts will not isolate vibrations as the solid path via the bolt head and nut remains.
And rubber in compression is virtually solid so if you put them above and below, it won't do much.
i certainly wouldn't bother.
The important thing is not to only just 'nip' the horizontal bolts that pass through the wood blocks.

what is the difference in a 40 tooth ring gear and a 40 tooth large tooth. wanting to put in a 12 tooth pinion gear in a 26 2 door sedan.
Last post
Never heard of a 40 tooth large tooth.
Wouldnt hurt to know if this is a rux rear end, the answer would be different.
A 12 tooth pinion wont fit in a stock rear end with a stock 40 T ring gear. The 12T pinion gear is a larger diameter.
You would need a ring gear from a 13/39 or a 13/40 & shim the ring gear up about .090

This photo was taken in June 1919 in Houston Texas of the Phenix dairy Co. starting out delivering milk with horse drawn wagons. When I first saw this I really had to look closely to find a T in the photo. There is one but you really look closely to see it.
I wonder how much longer the company used horse drawn wagons to deliver their product.

I agree it was a staged picture that took a good while to get everyone in place. Especially with getting the horse drawn wagons in place. A street scene is one thing but this took some work to get done.

Is it as simple and pulling off the aluminum gear and pushing on the steel gear?
Is the timing gear pressed on? That would make swapping the gear MUCH more difficult.
Last post
Does your car have a generator? I suggest that you replace both gears as a set. Timing gears depend on good cam bearings and main bearings to run correctly. Generator drive gear clearance can be adjusted, if necessary.

Just be aware that needle bearing hubs are a disaster waiting to happen if the fan shaft is soft, (and all the stock shafts are soft). If you can file the shaft, its too soft to run a needle bearing on. Just something to be aware of. Needle bearings are great if used properly and a disaster if installed where they don't belong.

A steering wheel wood rim would be painted black.
If you are asking about the steering wheel rim for you 1924, it would have been black Fordite.
If you are planning to stain and finish a steering wheel rim, pick your favorite stain and finish with a good exterior marine varnish.

Contrary to popular belief, this coil was produced between late 1916-1918 and replaced the brass top coil, mainly due to WWI where brass was a strategic material for the war effort. But has anyone ever modified the clutch foot pedal and converted it to a shifter lever?
I don't mean for a Ruckstell shifter. I am just wondering about operating the stock ford pedal by hand like a jockey shifter.
Last post
The second lever on an early 1909 Ford operated that way.
Now I don't recall if you pulled it back or pushed it forward to engage the reverse band.

I’m open to some tips about installing a new sleeve onto a driveshaft. So far, it kinda sucks. I got the old one off by heating it with a torch and beating it free with a brass shaft. An open ammeter would have the same effect as an inoperative cutout. I suppose a shorted to ground ammeter would cause the cutout to chatter until it failed, whereupon the generator would run away. System voltage would probably fluctuate wildly until the cutout failed, which would likely trash any bulbs that were lit.

Has anyone had experience or purchased one of these starters? Thinking of purchasing one when I install my Fronty engine in my 1914 roadster.
Just wonder how it functions ease of installation, and overall performance.

I have had one on my Model A for several years. The starter gear engages before it starts turning. Very easy on ring gears.

Help with 24 hood shelf

First post
I am making a pie wagon using A rolling chassis that the title said was a1924. There were no hood shelves with it and I ordered 24 hood shelves. When I went to put them on the rear hole does not line up. As the photo shows the 2 front holes line up but not the back. Do I have the wrong hood shelf or is my frame not a 24 ? Can I save this by...
Last post
It looks more like the rear hole is correct & the fronts are off. Fit the radiator & shell on. The front of the shelf looks too close to the radiator mounting studs.
Those shelf's are for a high radiator, wide fire wall. (late 23-25).
Safer to assume the frame is correct & the repop parts are off.
Yes on the headlight wiring holes.

I am looking for some parts for the McDonough T10 Go Kart. Is there a source for parts for these?
I am mainly looking for the 2 piece pulley for the motor shaft and the gear box pulley with the reverse disk mounted to it.
Thanks,
Robbie
Last post
That could work especially for fitment of the reverse disc because it makes contact with the taper of the pulley.
The original pulley was 3” diameter and this one isn’t that far off especially with it being adjustable.

I asked some well-known Model T rebuilders/experts who drive a lot what oil they use. The two answers were 20W-50 and 15W-40 (Diesel). I went with the 20W-50. I've been buying quarts of it to carry in the car, getting it at Walmart for the best price. That is ending. I'm told Walmart is deleting the heavier oils and going with only the light...
Last post
Just purchased a case of 10W-30 at the local farm store. $2.59/quart. Paid $6.00 at OReilly last week while I was on the road.
Aso got a quart of 85W-140 at the local OReilly and it was only $8.99
I should be set for the winter.

So Forum Chums….Ford Faithful?…..or one of the modified Mag post lines….. I like the design of the latter, and it seems like it would get more oil than the Ford Faithful…thoughts?
Last post
One thing to consider with the Ford system is that when the car is headed up a steep slope, the oil level in the sump area will likely increase due to oil running back to the sump faster. More oil in the sump would mimic having a higher oil level in the engine and tend to offset the effects of having to push the oil uphill to the front of the...

Adjusting Valve Clearance

Can valve clearance on an engine with a modern valves and camshaft be adjusted using a feeler gauge? I don't know exactly which cam my car has, but it is not a stock cam. The engine runs well as-is with no excess valve train noise. The procedure for the setting the valve clearance with the original cam looks like a tedious affair.

A day or two ago, Coker tire notified me that they finally have white clincher tires back in stock.
I had a set back ordered for over a year. They are now in transit to me.
I thought I would inform those that are interested, that they are available again.

Granted, they were New OLD Stock, but never again . White tires are just so much more delicate than black that I would rather be incorrect than go down that road again. I've used elderly black tires too, and they weren't devoured by country roads like those Firestone whites.

Yes. The 490 was designed for the 1926-‘27 styles with the cowl mounted fuel tanks in mind. I don’t know about them being geared for Kilometers. Russ Furstow would know. He would also be the one most likely to find a 490 setup for you. Jim Patrick

For a car like this your making a good decision not to “restore” it. Maybe change the oil and maybe the bands then give it good wash job and that’s it. Also you might raise up the seats and use air and a vacuum to get the dust and dirt from sitting for years.
