I am looking to replace the window channel while I am replacing the glass in the drivers side door. The current channel looks to have been replaced at one time and I am not sure it was the correct channel as the window was difficult to raise and lower.

After driving my 26TT almost every day for 6 months I got my first free start. I am curious as to how often others get a free start.

Often when we least expect them. I often get a chuff from one car even after sitting for days and a free start 1 out of 16 times or so. The other 4 hardly ever. The engines don't always stop at the same place. Momentum, temperature and the phase of the moon have something to do with it.

I have installed a NH carb on my 1927 engine, so I need to install a lever in the hole in the rod. The hole is located about 10 below the present lever.

How do I get the rod exposed so I can slip the lever over the rod?

Here is a silly question from someone with no electrical skill:

Is there a technical difference between Model T spark plug wires and the rest of the wiring (Other than gauge)? If not, what gauge should the spark plug wires be?
I ask because I am making my own wires for a distributor, I will be using cloth braided wire.

I found this pursuing the internet tonight . The Armadillo Speedster (B-ARD) that sold for $23,000 a few years ago in Arizona at auction was resold by RM / Sotheby's in March of 2022 for $11,000 in Ft. Lauderdale , part of the Rey collection. That was quite a loss considering the mad money that was paid for it at auction a few years ago .

I have put this up before but thought it could use a reboot. All T blocks that come here for work are first given a pressure test. I made tooling and bolt down a head with a reusable rubber gasket. I just ran across an article that recommended installing a leather pad between the top of the frame and the rear mounting brackets. Is this a good idea?

Introducing pads only under the mounts will not isolate vibrations as the solid path via the bolt head and nut remains.
And rubber in compression is virtually solid so if you put them above and below, it won't do much.
i certainly wouldn't bother.

The important thing is not to only just 'nip' the horizontal bolts that pass through the wood blocks.

what is the difference in a 40 tooth ring gear and a 40 tooth large tooth. wanting to put in a 12 tooth pinion gear in a 26 2 door sedan.

Never heard of a 40 tooth large tooth.
Wouldnt hurt to know if this is a rux rear end, the answer would be different.

A 12 tooth pinion wont fit in a stock rear end with a stock 40 T ring gear. The 12T pinion gear is a larger diameter.
You would need a ring gear from a 13/39 or a 13/40 & shim the ring gear up about .090

This photo was taken in June 1919 in Houston Texas of the Phenix dairy Co. starting out delivering milk with horse drawn wagons. When I first saw this I really had to look closely to find a T in the photo. There is one but you really look closely to see it.

I wonder how much longer the company used horse drawn wagons to deliver their product.

Many years ago my father made a soldering iron from an old veneer iron. The temperature is adjustable from 200 - 500F. He milled a slot in the face of the iron and inset a copper strip. This is one of the best soldering irons that I've ever used.

Am interested in which hub cap is proper for a 1912. According to the Encyclopedia, the '12 has script and thin edge. A sketch also shows plain or no scallop edge from the side view.

I want to replace the aluminum timing with an original steel one.

Is it as simple and pulling off the aluminum gear and pushing on the steel gear?

Is the timing gear pressed on? That would make swapping the gear MUCH more difficult.

Does your car have a generator? I suggest that you replace both gears as a set. Timing gears depend on good cam bearings and main bearings to run correctly. Generator drive gear clearance can be adjusted, if necessary.

to your bend question: yes you certainly can fix it

first you want to be sure it's bent and not out of round...that can be done when it's reading ..002 and then with your hand, pushing down on the crank right at that spot and seeing if it will go back to zero . If it does, it is bent. You will want to set up the indicator to anything over .010...

Looks like a good one. The fender iron brackets appear to be gone, but the box looks like it has a lot to offer. Usually the center brace is gone, because many of them have been removed for trailer use.

Hi All,
My name is Ken and I live in Ohio. I am north of 60 but still I can not walk past a dumpster without looking in. I joined specifically to identify this find. Google says it is a 1920's Model T steering wheel.

Just be aware that needle bearing hubs are a disaster waiting to happen if the fan shaft is soft, (and all the stock shafts are soft). If you can file the shaft, its too soft to run a needle bearing on. Just something to be aware of. Needle bearings are great if used properly and a disaster if installed where they don't belong.

An open ammeter would have the same effect as an inoperative cutout. I suppose a shorted to ground ammeter would cause the cutout to chatter until it failed, whereupon the generator would run away. System voltage would probably fluctuate wildly until the cutout failed, which would likely trash any bulbs that were lit.

I thought I would share a photo of the babbitt thrust washers we found when rebuilding the rear axle. I was fortunate they were in so good condition.

Babbit can vary in make up. Old salvage babbit is even more uncertain as to analysis. Ford used to warn against gyp babbit, claiming their own was of superior quality.

I am starting phase II of my coupe restoration; that is, putting things back together. Wheels went back on the axles today.

Engine is in. We took it out with a skid loader and put it in with a good hoist. Much easier. Son and grandson like it better than the Bobcat.

I installed mine about a foot below the terminal block under the hood where it is easily accessible. I also got the modern fuse holder so fuses are readily available. I did not want it under the car where it can get wet and I have to lie on my back to get at it.

Looks like motorcycle speedo drive.
It would clamp to the rear frame & that gear / sprocket would mesh with the sprocket on the rear wheel .
Probably worth pretty good money in the vintage motorcycle world.

I noticed the striker on my 24 touring rear door was loose. Tried to tighten it, nothing. Realized the screw is just stuck in the whole, no nut on the other side. As best as I can tell, the only way to get at the other side of the door post is by removing the front seat upholstery. Am I wrong? I'm thinking I need to make/find a threaded insert....

It probably was a machine screw with a nut on the other side that was put on sometime back to help hold on the striker. The hinges on my 21 were held on by at least one machine screw and nut. I saw this when I restored the car so I put it back the same way on the hinge and added a machine screw with nut on the striker too. Makes since to me to do...

Does anybody have an pictures or dimensions of the wiring harness clip that goes on passenger side of the firewall? I'm not sure what years it was used.
I think the firewall mounting bolts hold it in place, just behind the hood former.

If you have not done it yet, I highly suggest rebuilding the rear axle. They're usually in sorry shape mechanically and have several things wrong in addition to the well known babbit thrust washers. A failure in the rear end means no more foot brake.

I am making a pie wagon using A rolling chassis that the title said was a1924. There were no hood shelves with it and I ordered 24 hood shelves. When I went to put them on the rear hole does not line up. As the photo shows the 2 front holes line up but not the back. Do I have the wrong hood shelf or is my frame not a 24 ? It looks more like the rear hole is correct & the fronts are off. Fit the radiator & shell on. The front of the shelf looks too close to the radiator mounting studs.
Those shelf's are for a high radiator, wide fire wall. (late 23-25).
Safer to assume the frame is correct & the repop parts are off.
Yes on the headlight wiring holes.

I am looking for some parts for the McDonough T10 Go Kart. Is there a source for parts for these?
I am mainly looking for the 2 piece pulley for the motor shaft and the gear box pulley with the reverse disk mounted to it.

That could work especially for fitment of the reverse disc because it makes contact with the taper of the pulley.
The original pulley was 3” diameter and this one isn’t that far off especially with it being adjustable.

I asked some well-known Model T rebuilders/experts who drive a lot what oil they use. The two answers were 20W-50 and 15W-40 (Diesel). I went with the 20W-50. I've been buying quarts of it to carry in the car, getting it at Walmart for the best price. That is ending. I'm told Walmart is deleting the heavier oils and going with only the light...

Aso got a quart of 85W-140 at the local OReilly and it was only $8.99

Can valve clearance on an engine with a modern valves and camshaft be adjusted using a feeler gauge? I don't know exactly which cam my car has, but it is not a stock cam. The engine runs well as-is with no excess valve train noise. The procedure for the setting the valve clearance with the original cam looks like a tedious affair.

After a 20 mile drive I touched the front wheel hub cap and hub and was surprised that it was warm. Felt the other front hub and it was warm too. Never noticed this before, are warm hubs normal after a drive?

Thanks for all the responses. I inspected the races and bearings and they look fine. Repacked the bearings and put it all back together with new National Oil Seals 204002 dust seal from the local auto parts store. I did find that tightening up the nut affected the tightness of the bearing, so had to play around with a looser fit of the outer...
