Rear leaf spring assembly made easy(er)

Restoring or working on a Model T is hard work, but generally pretty easy. Some projects are easier than others though. This is the second T that I have done a frame up restoration on, and it was time to reassemble the painted leaf springs. The front springs are really easy to reassemble, and can be done with a couple of wood parallel clamps and a...

Ordered last Thursday (8/4) the set of four for my '13 arrived this morning. Perhaps I don't know enough to be displeased ? They look good to me, and I'm sure I'll be happy with them. I'm not sure what they are calling a blemish. This minor flaw on one of the tires is all I could see in the way of imperfections.

A couple of months ago, I installed (5) brand new 4.50-21 Goodyear tires on the 21” split rims of my 1926 coupe. I took a picture of one of the labels. While I think I know what the numbers 4.50-21 mean, I am not absolutely certain. I have no idea what the CCAE1 means. Jim Patrick

similar to a T but larger bearing and straight shank has ball bearings on the inner but taper race on outside
measures 2 5/16 across outer and 3 3/8 at inner, about the same overall diameter on flange
thank you, Bob
Last post
One reason a T collector may have a Chevy 490 front hub is to build a T speedster using Chevy 490 spindles in T axel for lowering plus maybe 490 steering gear. The wheels could be built up with Chevy hubs and Ford rims.

I'm thinking about how to address a couple of issues on a brass windshield. The first is a crack , the second a distorted hole. See photos.
I'm thinking about annealing the cracked area, compressing the housing to restore the contour of the housing and close the crack and silversoldering the crack after Ving it out a tiny bit. I may have to ream...
Last post
Silver solder the crack, heat up the area around the hole, let it cool. Support the bottom and press a long tapered punch into it until you get enough clearance for the bolt to fit.

Had a car making noise and thought I might have a clutch issue but I found this in my magneto. I thought it might be a dipper from the end of a connecting rod but it is the funnel end of the oil tube which runs to the front bearing. I have an out side oil line on this engine and everything else inside looks good. Can I get by without tearing this...

John, I did that, just reassembling now. There was a lot of debris and I’m sure the magneto is done. The car runs on battery powered by an alternator with an old Bosch distributor. It is my only car that runs this way, my older ones all run how Henry designed them. This is a nice running modified car which kind of surprised me. Allen’s guestion...

This may be a silly suggestion, but have you inspected the carburetor throttle shaft? If it's loose, the hole may be wallowed out and sucking more air than fuel.

Ditto on the brass-over-steel construction of the support rods. One of my rods has a crack in the brass which is a real finger slicer if you're not careful. The rod's not structurally compromised, so we just have learned to be careful. Not sure how to repair it other than to glue it down with some structural epoxy and then posish off any residue....

The photo shows the head assembled with very light springs so they could check the valve wipe by hand.

Early Chev inlet .0005 to .0025 and exhaust .002 to .004 so maybe a 1/2 thou tighter on your inlets.

Are there two sizes of repop felt channels for door glass?? My repop is 5/8 wide. The width of the channel into which the felt channel sets is 9/16 . I think it will be very difficult, if not impossible, to install the repop.
Last post
I was wrong. My retaining channels, for the felt channel, are 5/8 . The repop felt channel is 5/8 , and therefore, it is very tight fit. I which the repops were 9/16 . It would make installation easier. The supplier has told me 9/16 are not available.
Is an adhesive used to bond the felt channel to retainer?

My father once owned a 1927 black Doctor's Coupe. We have license registration documents that indicate the serial number was C-756638. This number is higher than the highest serial number in the look-up tables, but I understand that the terminal serial number is unknown. So, who knows, maybe that serial number is correct, or maybe some digits were...

I have a brass Troy windshield frame that I’d like to sell to an interested buyer.
I was hoping someone here might be able to give me a value that would be fair to both me and the buyer.
There is a tight crack on one end that will need to be silver soldered.
I did polish up a small area to show what this frame will look like when cleaned up.

Just discovered that all Warford countershaft bearing caps are not created equal. It seems there are more than one bolt patterns.
Can anyone shine some light on the subject? My caps have a smaller bolt pattern on the top two holes than the case I have.

The 15th picture down is about right for a T ! The guy was putting in some water because the radiator had looked like a geyser. You can tell by the water stains all over the front of the T ! Must have been a real hot day or he was pulling a long hill in low.
What stories these folks could tell of events happening nearly 100 years ago! Neat...

Trying to help a friend find a couple of parts for his 26/27 T roadster pick up. He needs a hood and both running boards. This is an old kinda beat up car, rusty (no rust out) and lots of patina so the parts need to be in that condition, but more importantly they need to be in California or close because it's an asap situation. We'll come and pick...

Hi All, I am at the point of installing radiator in my 19 roadster project and have two low radiators in my stash. One is a honey comp with an undamaged core, can't remember how or when I got this, the other is a stock T that is rougher, but probably serviceable. Any experience with honey comb would be a help.
thanks Van

Thank you Jim for the renewed interest in honey-comb radiators and the favorable respondents.
I've been hesitant to even try the Hooven Radiator Co short honey-comb from Chicago due to bad reviews.
I went over to the hall-tree/coat rack to look at it again. It's been awhile.
IF the 18's nearly new yet 40 year old rad leaks much more, I really...

I tried out a NOS set of Rentz Spark Plugs after running new Champion X’s for a long time. They have a longer electrode than the Champions which I assume makes them a hotter plug, so I set the gap a bit bigger on them, between .030 and .035 for the Rentz. The champions I have set at a snug .025

I'd guess the intermittent plugs have a hidden crack or flaw in the insulator or the unglazed end of the insulator may be deeply permeated with carbon or rust. If narrowing the gap on an intermittent plug improved its test performance, that would seem to point to an insulation leak of some kind, such as a hairline crack, rust or carbon...

I have a '13 that had 3-1 gears installed in it long before I bought it. What a job it was taking that rear end apart! I had to remove every stud from the axle housings just to be able to pull the rear housings apart. Needless to say, the car now has the correct stock gears, and I can easily pull the housings apart without any trouble.
