I use Vaseline mixed with 3 in One oil on the roller and inside the cup of my original style timer. Viscosity should be about like molasses or Karo syrup. Today’s project…. I found out that I have a newer fan pulley adjustment on the 27…. Let’s just say that the eccentric center has not moved in a long long time…. It was rusted fast and there wasn’t a good way to use a press to remove it so I ended up taking it to the vice after soaking it…. And carefully tapping it out with one of my three-quarter...

I believe the original body on my T was a roadster. With the pickup box on it the fenders do not come close to the box. Not sure of the year of the box and I will have to sand on the frame to read the serial #. It is licensed as a 26 but that was because of the motor I had when I applied for a title55 years ago. I was a kid then and did not know...

Believe your fender is a rear 26-27 touring/sedan fender, not made to fit to your pickup. The bed you have is 26-27, just need to find a pair of correct rear fenders, 26-27 roadster/coupe/pickup .

I am replacing the non-original rain gutters on my '26 Coupe with a pair of originals. Right now, there is hid-em around the back of the roof from gutter to gutter. Someone told me that originally there was a curved metal strip around the back, not hid-em. Is this true? Does anyone have some close-up photos of what it is supposed to look like?...

Humblej's drawing is clearly correct but only half the story.
As George says, there is (was) then a cover which slid along to cover the screws.
But this is the gutter along the side, not the front and rear trim. In the UK, the nearest equivalent is still known as 'Hidem Banding'.
This is all good stuff I didn't know, but I have to say that the...

I recently purchased a modern dipstick, Langs 3079DS that replaces the lower petcock. Installation instructions say a slight bend may be needed. It looks to me like it will require way more than a slight bend to get the tube to exit forward of the firewall under the hood. This is on a 19 roadster project. Van, for now I can say that it comes up at a slight angle up (very slight), and a slight angle out (again, very slight). The mounting tab generally must be drilled out a little to fit over the firewall bracket bolt. Even though it is angled out everything safely and easily clears the inside of the hood when closed.
The up bend is my decision to...

Could adding a high compression head be expected to improve engine breathing? I'd think a reduced clearance volume would make the engine a more efficient air pump and thus increase power. I'd think a performance cam would work better with a smaller clearance volume as well.

Chrysler is closer than any I can find. I believe it would have had a plated radiator shell, winged cap and cowl lights though. It probably would have had a bumper. So many mid-twenties cars had cowl lights. The bullet headlights were few. That is a long hood. I'm guessing a lesser known make that doesn't pop up in photos as much.
A great puzzle....

Can anyone identify them? The spring perches are moved to opposite sides of the axle and installed facing outward toward the wheel. Then the lever arms are...

Hi all,
In a bunch of Model T carburetors, I found a Hi-Power Miller carburetor.
Does any one out there can help me with the identification of this carburetor.
Is it complet? What was it's use? Can it be rebuild and who can do the job right.
Thanks

First off, I know that those who use the Form are very helpful giving information.
And some time there is no answer. Those who find funny marks on your car are asking what is this?
So here is a place where someone may get an answer about a trade mark on a part of your car.
It may answer a question... it may not be quick...but it may help.

Let's see your machines and all the non-Ford goodies you have installed to make Lizzy suit your needs. About on average how many functional accessories do you use?

You might considered staying with the 4:1 gearing, assuming everything from the road to the steering wheel is tight and in good adjustment, and adding a 17 steering wheel and adjusting caster/camber to the best advantage and setting toe-in to slightly favor understeer. Adjusting front/rear tire pressures might also be of benefit. Anything you can...

Replacing the notch replaces half the wear. To complete the job the corresponding working surfaces on the pedal need building back to spec. The pedal needs to come off the shaft, the wear surfaces built up and then the faces worked back into close contact. This refinishing is key to the job. It requires repeated filing, grinding, bluing, refitting...

Does anyone have suggestions and hopefully photos of where and how they attached speedometer cable support straps?
I know Model Ts did not come with straps, but the repros need the support.
The repro cable housings stretch and cause the sliding clutch to disengage. I'm hoping a strap will solve the problem.

I copied a little wire buckle from an old one on Kim Dobbins car. It's only about I square, and hangs from a engine splash pan bolt. From that I have a short leather strap. It's been on my cars for many years.

The 1927 Ford model T I bought had been starting flawlessly…. Just this afternoon I went to start it and it’s not turning the engine….. the starter sounds like it’s spinning fine but I’m thinking the Bendix, any thoughts….. Would low battery voltage cause The Venix not to engage, the original owner had an 8 V battery in it I can’t figure out for...

You need to pull the starter bendix, not necessarily the starter motor. Its likely the issue & will be obvious. Lost bolt, broken spring or counterweight. Whall the bendix is out, do a quick test on the starter.
Hit the starter switch & try to stop the spinning with a leather gloved hand. You should not be able to easily stop the motor from...

Hey folks. I have a question for you all. Car is tending to run hot very quickly. The Motometer showing above the top of the spectrum within 30 minutes. I don't recall that happening before. Is this normal? Any thoughts what it could be (if it is not normal)? I have read some old posts and postings on the forum as to what it could be, but I wanted...

Stephen Heatherly told me about it last year. He said it put a full stop to his rear axle leaks, so I'm using it when I install new seals. So far it's working for me.

As far as quality is concerned if it’s to specification and made with quality materials that’s fine.
The other side is they could be made in the USA and we’re becoming more dependent on a country who knows what their doing to eventually take over the suits who make the decisions about where we’re going.

Differences between Holley Model S 2 Screw Carbs? What do they mean?

evening all.
Seems I have 2 Holley Model S 2 screw carbs. At first I thought they were identical, but now I see some differences. In the bowl, choke and throttle levers, and the 2 screw cover plate. The bowls have a different shape. The cover is thicker on one than the other, and there are differences in the castings of the throttle and choke...
Last post
There were 2 styles of choke arms used on the S, one resembling the G arm but without the reinforcement rib cast into the bottom. That rib could have been present on some because they changed stuff all the time but you can see if somebody shortened a G shaft if the staple holes are not centered.
On some the boss for the mixing chamber cover screw...

1913 Holley S Carb Valve Seat Differences. Anyone know why?

First post
So I found another Holley S carb in the house, so I have 3 now to look at.
I cracked open all 3 to see whats going on inside.
2 have the same valve seat, and the third one has a completely different one.
As you can see, it has a guide for the valve needle, whereas the others do not.
Is this a later addon, or is this an earlier version?
Last post
Some of those have a restricted fuel inlet while others are straight through to the seat opening.

I have a ball cap for a 2 piece drive shaft that has roughly a 1 inch long & 1/2 inch deep missing piece at the large open end. If I cut to square the circumference to the depth of the missing chipped out piece would it effect the use of the ball cap? I hate to scrap it and I’m looking for options for its use.

Pulled an unknown hub puller out of the evaporust bucket today. I'm unsure what it fits though. It's 2 7/8 diameter from the outside of the threads.

I suggest it may not be a hub puller per se... quite possibly it's for a pulley, gear wheel, flywheel or something similar.

I will agree as time went onward into the Model T production.
Changes were made to make the part less expensive to produce.
This made the cost of building the car less expensive and that could be pasted onto the consumer to purchase the Model T at a lower price.
I would think the earlier handles that were cast took longer to produce and more...

There could definitely be someone who could use that rear end. Those cars are known to break drivetrain parts more often than T’s.

That's a repair, or someone added it to prevent the fender from cracking, which they often did under hard use. It's also possible someone added it to stiffen the fender so they could carry more cargo on the running board.

I bought a 1915/16 roadster last winter and am still learning to drive it. The engine 1s from 1922 with electric start. It has a Ruckstell that I have kept in underdrive so far. The car is VERY hard to push in neutral, it takes two men to push it on level ground. Am I wrong in thinking the car should be easy to push with the handbrake halfway on?...

I found a procedure in Fahenstock's book basically calling for 1/16 free play in the link between the pedal and the high gear lever. I'll try that, and put the rear axle into Ford direct drive instead of Ruckstell.
