Spoke Replacement, which wheel do I have

First post
I noticed today that I have some clicking from one of the wood wheels on the 22. Some investigation showed loose spokes on two wheels. My wheels have the metal rings not wood felloes so spoke replacement is not a gargantuan task and I wanted to touch up the paint on the wheels anyway.
In looking at the catalogues I see various options for the...

Scott, what I don't understand is how a lug which makes no contact with the rim in an unworn combination of rim and felloe, can be considered a drive lug when there is no connection. Just because a patentee calls it such does not necessarily make it such. Comparing this to your 350 F truck wheels studs is somewhat dis-ingenuous. A closer...

After a tire blowout revealed multiple razor sharp rims a couple years ago, I found myself with new rims and spokes in the Buffalos and a set to Blockley tires on the way. A spare set of wheels kept the car in service, and eventually the rebuilt wheels and English rubber were seeing action. Was only able to drive about 2 miles before figuring out...

In a discussion with a friend we somehow got to talking about Henry's starter & generator. No problem as to the date it was introduced but when did the actual process start?
When the magneto electric light was introduced, Could Henry then have said OK now get to work and work out a starting lighting system or could it be the wheels were put into...

Thanks John and Scott ( for actually answering my questions) Knew of Fred Allison but had not made the starter connection to him.
Seems Fred has been dealt a poor legacy especially as his FA Liberty Electric Co had his name(initials) up front.
Not much recognition from that if any. Maybe there was some kind of fall out and Ford set about getting...

Today I picked up my engine after a transmission rebuild. As proof of life the rebuilder set it up on a Dyno and ran it for me, first with a Holley NH, then with my Holley G. I have a NH at home in a box that I've never gotten around to installing on the engine. Based upon the results, I think I will now :D

That's encouraging news for the NH users!
Thought I was missing out with a G that's ready to go, right in front of me but perhaps not. :)

Allowable variation between cylinder head size?

I have heard that the Z heads have some size variation between the different cylinders. Especially compared to a Prus head. This was posted here many months ago so I decided to measure the sizes of my Z head.
I found that cylinders 2 and 3 were perfectly matched at 211 grams of water. #1 measured 210g and #4 held 208g. I think that is a...

I would think that was very good! A roughly one percent variant in chamber size? You will have a greater anomaly than that due to the flow characteristics in the manifolds! Cylinders one and four flow better on the intake that do cylinders two and three. And cylinder number two has the worst flow on exhaust due to it following cylinder number one...

Dan, did you actually call them to see if there is still a discount? It used to be a minimum of 6 bars and it calculated the discount for you. Now says to call for volume discounts.
One thing that you also didn't mention is the cost to get 6 bars shipped has become as much as one bar costs!! :o

Cap screw heads that is. The trouble with cleaning parts hour after hour is that my mind wanders to the land of Oz, Kalamity Dick and questions about how the parts were made and when. I'm a believer in delivering filtered air to an engine. I use the spring loaded foam filter available from vendors. I live in humid Alabama. I've seen condensation on the outside of the manifold, but run with no issues. With the filter against the hogs head it may pick up some heat, but I'm not using nor do I plan on using a hot air pipe.

I have done some work on my 22 and have been driving it a bit. At first, it ran very smoothly but after driving it around for an hour the other day, it started to sputter and pop when I try to accelerate. It has a pretty smooth idle.
I have checked the electrical and it’s getting spark on all cylinders. Shorting each plug showed a noticeable...

Thanks to the forum I found that Tom VanMeeteren is able to supply cap, rotor and points for my AK type RA distributor. The cam gear that came with the unit has no slot or locating hole to position it correctly. The distributor sits slanted. I have attached a couple of pictures of the unit. I could find no markings on the plate, just the Type RA...

Hi Jim,
As far as fore & aft spacing I usually put the gear on with the nut loose so you can spin the distributer turning the gear freely on the cam to check the gear mesh & spacing.

One more easy thing to check that can cause this problem is the bolt below the timer that goes through the front of the oil pan into the bottom of the engine block could be pointed up instead of down and will hit the terminals on the lower side of the timer every time you advance your timing and short out that cylinder. Ford's first production four cylinder car, the Model B, compared with other 1905 cars

Beginning with his racers, Henry Ford recognized the importance of horsepower to weight ratio. His first racers were no fluff, all motor and no creature comfort space eaters, evidenced by Arrow and 999, the 20 hp skeleton racer, a creation made up of two 1904 Model A 10 hp motors, and his 1100 hundred cubic inch six cylinder racer. A properly counterweighted crankshaft will allow a T engine to run much smoother and run at somewhat higher RPM without damage. More power will be available to move the car, and the driveline and the entire car will benefit from the marked reduction in vibration. Making up a list of items that need to go to the plater and wasn’t sure about a few things. On my two project vehicles should the following items be nickel plated or painted?
1927 TT:

1927 Tudor:

Door sill plates are usually zinc. They were nut plated on our Canadian sourced cars.

On the '27 the steering has been a bit quirky at times. Have always checked the obvious pieces of the front end, steering gear, king pins, spindle bearings, air pressure in tires, spring hangers. etc. etc.
But garage time today, jacked up the chassis, and pulled the wheels for tour inspections and grease, and noticed the spring stack would...

Yes. Firestone. Used on some of the Model A body styles, in various lengths. 8 11/16 long would be 28-29 coupe and tudor models. Most were chocolate brown, but some may have been black. How are they for flexibility after so many years? I know Model A restorers that may be interested if for sale.

Last post
The petrol tank cap is a fairly standard size and thread. A Fordson tractor cap fits, either the radiator cap or the fuel tank cap. A more ready source is the bung in a 200 litre fuel/chemical drum. Nowadays these are usually diecast, so any fitting to the bung would need to be bolt-in rather than welded/soldered.
