When I rebuilt my first transmission about 40 years ago, I had difficulty finding anyone that knew the thickness of new clutch disks to determine if they were needed.

The weather in Minnesota

by
Herb Iffrig » Sun Jul 27, 2025 8:53 pm
First post
I looked at the weather channel a little while ago and saw a radar map of Minnesota. There appeared to be a bunch of tornadoes west of Minneapolis heading east. I think this is the area of the New London to New Brighton old car run. I don't like to see tornadoes any where, but I would like to know our friends in that area are ok.
Last post
Hopefully everyone is ok.
I live 30 miles NW of New London. Was taking the T out for a test drive Sunday, but
after seeing this ominous cloud, returned home rather quickly.
IMG_6120.JPG
Got the T in the garage and closed the door just before the storm hit.
No tornados but had straight line wind and a deluge of rain with hail damage.

I’ve been having some issues with my T — you can check my last post for the full story if you’d like — but I feel like I may have finally pinned it down (at least I hope so).
I decided to check the timing, and when I brought cylinder #1 just past TDC, there was no spark there. Instead, cylinder #4 was sparking. So I took apart my new Day timer...

Does they bottom bolt of the Y carrier use 2849D. If it does or does not, what should it look like?
What holds the tire in place on the bottom of the Y carrier? picture would help. Thank you.
Last post
Missed that, was thinking only of the 2849D clincher 30 tire clamp used 1921 to 1925.
The Y bracket is for the '26-'27 mounts that are on the body. The Y 2873 is for balloon tires, 21 .
The lower stud fits to a rim lug nut to secure the rim and tire. There is a flanged rim nut with holes to also chain the tire and rim with a padlock

I’m working on a Ruckstell shift lock assembly P158C, 26/27. The shifter when installed works fine. My issue is there is a lot of slop in the P-1014-A , not something worn out but a lot of movement in the lever as it moves with the shift lever. At the end of the lever where it attaches to the P-38 shift tube, there is about 1” of play that...
Last post
Do you have the shift lock off the axle housing? Look under the shift fork in the lock body. The p124 finger is below it.
In that finger a 1/2 headed hex bolt should be facing you. Its possible that bolt has fallen out or sheared, in which case a 5/16 hole is seen.

The move to slowly updating the bodies and style of the model T, for 1915 Ford moved to a small cowling surrounding a smaller firewall than in previous years. Prototypes had been hand made in the summer of 1914. However, production problems stamping out the body's large side panels with...

one of my coils are weak, i know because when starting if the commutator is rotated such that one of the coils is buzzing before i crank it, sometimes i hear a strong buzz other times its weaker, and sometimes its real strong, I don't know which coil(s) are making the weaker noise nor do I have access to a tester, how do I get them all going about...
Last post
If you turn the crank just a little bit, and the buzzing stops, you are OK.
If the buzzing continues, you have a problem!

Hi.
Meanwhile I successfully replace the roller timer by a new (similar) one.
I also verified the distance of 65mm / 2.5 between spark advance rod on timer and the screw at oil fill socket.
Because the battery was empty, I connected the battery charger and tried to crank start the engine for first test run while the battery is charging.
Of...

don't know what Henry smoked when designing the timer-advance-rod, but that stuff was not good.
It hits the engine block, rubs on water hose, is too close to the timer, ... There would be lots easier ways to link the timer.
If parts are stock, the Ford timer rod for the year of your T will work fine for doing timer adjustments....

Just a quick question about over heating. I just got his 22 running for a friend that inherited it from a step father. Beautiful car. The story was the car had a rebuilt engine when they got it. Even if the tube are clear and it flows good it still may not cool. Over time the the fins are no longer in good contact with the tubes and can not dissipate the heat. As noted Brass Works is the only one making new radiators. They do have a back log.

Hello everyone. I have a klaxon model 21. The horn works but I am missing the adjustment part. I am attaching a picture of the missing part circled in red. If anyone can help me figure out what part goes there it would be much appreciated.I have tried different springs but they seem to just push it out farther out when I need adjustment in.

I figured it out. A spring goes on the end that I was missing and the adjustment is 2 nuts that slide the entire back section forward and backwards. Here is a quick video of the sound after I got it adjusted.

If you are getting detonation, back off on your spark advance. Your .25 clearance should be plenty. How much total advance are you running now? If much more than about 25 degree,s timing might well be your problem.

Tips on paint for brake drums?

Getting ready to paint my brake drums. I would think a high temp paint would be a benefit. Does anyone have a recommendation on a good paint to use?
Last post
Some previous owner painted the rear drums on my T with whatever. I only have the brakes that the car left the factory with, and have owned it for almost 15 years; I only use the parking brake to park. The outside of the drums look fine. As has been said, if you have some kind of an auxiliary brake that contacts outside of the drum, I would not...

Took delivery this past week of a car delivered by Bill Auto Works. Fantastic service by Bill Squires who was very easy to deal with, very commutative. Always called to report progress with on time delivery. Quoted a price up front and stuck to the Quote. No surprises. Very professional, would use again.

Anyone ever come up with a good way to rebuild the worn cam ramps on pedals? Hate to scrap a bunch of them if way to repair. Thanks Dan
Last post
I went through this a few years back. I built the area back up with weld and then used a die grinder to get it back to the original geometry. It’s been working fine since.
I started a thread here (Rejuvenating cam on clutch pedal) but I didn’t post photos of the result. I’ll see if I can find photos of the finished part.

I’m in the process of getting my re-wooded 25 (August 1924) Touring ready for paint and was able to get the firewall done today. I’ve never noticed these holes below the choke bell crank or the one with a shoulder directly below the coil box mounting holes. I don’t remember my January 1924 Roadster having them. What would they have been used for?...
Last post
In late 24 firewall was modified with that lower oval hole, then in 25 the choke bell crank was deleted and the new “26” style combo choke and carb adj u-joint swivel on the NH carb used that oval hole. These 25s fitted with that carb setup just prior to the Improved Car for 26 model year.

What lubrication for Original Roller Timer?

Hello.
Because my old Roller Timer is heavily worn out, I organized a replacement one and want to do it right from the beginning.
What lubrication is best directly inside the roller's bore?
Personally I am inclined to spray in some motorcycle chain grease , because it has high adhesion and viscosity. It is also very thin during spraying and...
Last post
The new roller timers available in the past,( I cant speak to current production, but I doubt their quality has changed) are/were junk new out of the box. Inside contacts must be perfectly round & centered, they were not. New rollers commonly wear out quickly.
This is why those in the know don't run them. Look @ what the Montana boys run -...

Hoping to build a thread with any history on the “Giant Speed Equipment . I’m guessing they were active in Los Angeles area in the 50s or 60s? I picked up a Gemsa flathead for my T, and noticed how similar the lettering was between the Gemsa and the Giant.
Last post
This old Giant Equipment brochure was posted on Facebook back in may. Judging by the early phone number it’s 1950s, since they changed to the 7 digit phone numbers in 1958-59.

Maros, if you sincerely want a 1910 Ford take heart. You can have one. But, if you haven't noticed, the world is full of crooks. They will sell you a 1953 Willys and tell you it's a 1910 Ford. It was a long time ago, but if I recall correctly? These can be easily adapted to fit and work on a model T car. The biggest problem is that the magneto sits out somewhat beyond the outside of the frame rail. Not much of a problem for some speedsters, however a stock bodied car with stock hood has a real problem with the aesthetics.
