What Thread Sealant Should be Used?

What thread sealant should be used on the sediment bowl to tank, gasline elbow to sediment bowl, gasline elbow to carb? I do have the Permatex product shown in the attached photo, but it is not clear to me if this is compatible to gas.
What thread sealant for radiator petcock? Could it be same as used for gasline elbows?
Last post
When using Teflon tape ( for you military people its Sealing Tape Teflon) it needs to be wrapped in the direction it is tightened in and should never extend past the first thread other wise it will end up in places you don't want it in.

Hi,
i have a question about the 4th Main.
When you pull the Motor or the Rear end, you have to unscrew the 4th Main. What is your recommendation so the 4th Main does not shift downwards?
Regards
Markus

Mark,
This one was leaking pretty bad I don't think turning the hole down would have been a issue getting oil to it. May have not even helped. I think more oil & more often would have saved the engine. But if you are going to end up on the trailer sooner or later sooner is better & less expensive & time consuming.

Just about all of my car's wheel studs are loose. I don't understand it. Some have been welded on....unsuccessfully. It looks like only about 3 are actually holding on each hub. Maybe only 2. No idea why that would happen. So, can these be welded on or is it best to get new studs and have them professionally pressed on? Will they just come back...
Last post
Many times swedged wheel studs are improperly replaced by driving the swedge thru the hub without first cutting it off. There are cutters for this but quite expensive. before I got the cutter I used a 5/8 hole saw with the drill removed, the ID is very close to 1/2 and will remove enough to get the stud out without adversely effecting the hole in...

I bought this awhile ago and the top had a broken bow. The top fabric looked good, the side pillows ware torn and frayed.
I’m going to replace the side pillows and rewrap the front 2 bows.
Is anyone interested in the process of how I do it?

Those side pillows are the top pads, they get installed on the top bows one layer at a time, then get hand stitched.

Does anyone have any photos installing a wood kit in a ‘26 roadster? Most of it appears self explanatory, but I am mostly interested in the top rail. I want to know if my body is missing anything to mount the wood.
Did you make your own or purchase a kit?

Thank you for that, so it seems the wood strips bolts directly to the body with no other metal bits?
Mine is missing, there are holes in the body where it looks like the strips would bolt, also someone drew marks with a sharpie beside the holes as it to locate them when hidden with wood during install.
I have several pieces of new wood that I...

Got a question, it is obvious why you'd need a key on the Hand Brake Lever side, but shouldn't there also be a key on the other side too, it also pulls a brake rod. But I can find no pictures, notations or even a reference to such a key on that side. I also couldn't find a different number/size for the pin that holds the right side rod pull nor...

I am looking at a 1915 runabout. The engine number is 1150130. I believe that puts it around late March of 1916. So, I guess my question is, would it have the 1915 features such as brass radiator and light rings? What should I look for to determine whether it is a 1916 or a 1916?

Looks like a Model A crank. As for bore to stroke ratio, The Model T, at 3 3/4 X 4 is comparable to many modern engines. With the compression limits imposed by low octane fuel and crude combustion chamber design in the early T era, a short stroke engine was not practical. Crankshaft design and other design considerations also limited engine speed,...

Yes, it DOES require some sort of shimming between some of the spokes. I sometimes glue oak veneer on a few of the spokes.

Later model Fords had the Fordite steering wheels painted. It usually began to wear off fairly quickly, revealing the dull black material underneath. The bare material could absorb dirt and grease from people's hands and get a gummy feel. It might be difficult to get paint to stay on an old wheel rim. Windshield seal removal methods

I had laminated glass installed last winter in my Runabout. My lower windshield frame cracked during installation. It appears to have rusted from the inside. The crack goes about 3/4 of the way around the frame section.

The frame appears to have been welded at some point. Rather than rewelding, I got another frame...

I chipped out most, but not all, of the seal with a screwdriver. I still have a lot of hardened rubber to get out. I was surprised to find about 6 of clean shiny rust-free surfaces in the bottom of the groove. I was not expecting that given the outside rust.

"fixing" our wood wheels

First post
I am now in the process of replacing the wood-to-rim rivets on the second wheel, so far, on our '21 Touring. I did one previously by drilling out the rivets, one at a time, and replacing them with flat head 1/4 inch screws with a flat washer and locking nut. I'm not too happy with the nuts showing in between the spokes but what else could I do? I...
Last post
The three rivets are not what holds that wheel together. The steel rim is heat shrunk onto the wooden fellow to be tight. Using bolts or screws to falsely secure a loose wheel is very bad idea. Fix it right
I don't think Model T wheels were heat shrunk only the big old wagon wheels. There is some old factory footage of wheels being assembled and...

I believe the 1913 head have square mold marks.
1914-1916 were pretty much the same. Casting date, (month-day) not year was toward the back.

First post
My 25 pickup has loose spokes in its 21 inch removable wheels.
my guess is that it is due to our hot dry climate here in Tucson Arizona.
A couple of questions.
Did 25 T's come with 30 X 31/2 clincher wheels ?
If so and I buy a set of 30 X 31/2 rebuilt wheels how can I seal them to prevent loose spokes?
Last post
Most 1925 open cars still used 30 X 3 1/2 wheels. Most knowledgeable people use Calimers wheel shop in Pennsylvania.

Hi there. :D
It has been a very long time since I posted anything on the forum, but today I decided to come back and discuss Model Ts with you all.
As a reminder, I live in France and I started to take an interest in the model T in 2004, starting by restoring a French Ford T 1924 with Torpedo bodywork by “A Rousset”. This car was then destroyed...

For those interested, these wheels are French. I found mention of them on an old car site where someone had a French Accessory book which listed them, seems that they were used on several French cars in the 1920's including Citroen.

Last post
I think I've read earlier posts that have debated this subject, but when someone says that they allow 0.004 to 0.005 piston clearance measured at the cylinder skirt, does that mean that's the final honed DIAMETER is 4 to 5 thousandth greater than the measured aluminum piston diameter?
That is correct. The final honed ready to assemble clearance.

That is not always the case, as about 30 years ago, I started documenting garages and barns that burned with a Model T inside.

I won’t comment on winch brands. I will describe my installation. I connected the winch to a trailer coupler(1-7/8”) and then SECURELY installed a ball on the front of the trailer deck. Added cables that can reach to the tow vehicle battery. The winch is then stored out the weather and away from thieves. Just my method.
