How do I remove this lockable steering wheel? There appears to be a button at the centre that likely should pop out and then something underneath must be loosened, BUT, how do you get that 3/4 button out? Anyone recognize the brand of it? Steering.2.jpg

Jerry, thanks for the photos and pointing out the set screw location. We had tried various drivers and other tools with no luck at all. Finally I got down and had a good look up the slot. NO SET SCREW!! It wasn't there, But, with all the poking, I guess in somehow loosened the center piece. Now, to the nut . .

Holly NH Float adjustment

First post
I have always adjusted the float on my Holly NH to 15/64” from the machined flange to the flat top of the float. When I took my carb apart yesterday to make necessary adjustments and install new gaskets, I was surprised that the float measurement was 5/32”which is quite a bit less than what I set it at. How does the float measurement change over...
Last post
In addition to the above, I would add that even a slight amount of wear at the float pivot or a very slight distortion of the needle or its seat could cause a significant change in the measured float level. Model T engines vibrate, and vibration can usually find a way to affect fine adjustments. Wear can also occur at the contact point between the...

Jerry, if you saw the accumulated, solidified mass of dried lubricant and dirt which almost completely filled the brake drums on Henrietta when I fitted new lined shoes, you might change that observation. It was certainly creating some drag, but I seriously doubt grease in the pumpkin would have a detectable drag on power output.

The flap at the front should be attached at the rear of the front bow or at least wrapped around so that the rear of the two flaps fits above the windshield and the front one is flat to the front of the windshield.
One less expensive way to fix your problem if you have access to a good sewing machine, would be to remove the rear curtain and stitch...

Making your own side curtains is probably a good idea. Most home sewing machines will sew top material provided they have the proper needle. You will need a needle specifically designed for sewing leather. They have more of a chisel point, to puncture the material. If your existing machine cannot handle it (unlikely) you may be able to find a...

yikes 50 board feet! Wood stores around here, don't have to buy that much. :o As I recall a board foot is 4/4 thick (1 inch un-planed) 12x12. If you need 1.25 (5/4) thick, I think you would need to get 1.50 (6/4) and surface it, but depends on finish of wood you were looking at.

Someone has suggested that I lubricate just the bottom end 4 inches of each leaf and not the entire length. The reason being that lubricating the entire bottom of each leaf would make the spring too flexible.
The leafs have been primed, and I intend to paint them black before assembling the spring.
Comments would be appreciated.

I have had both knees, both hips and one shoulder replaced.
It has had no impact on my ability to drive my '16 T.
The key to success after joint replacement is to :
1. Do the physical therapy as directed.

This will restore your strength and flexibility.
Then drive and enjoy your T as if nothing happened. :D

New Stanchion Mount Spare Tire Mounts

Update on my spare tire carrier project. I talked to the foundry the other day and they told me that the once the mold pattern is made it’ll be about a 3-4 week lead time until I get the carrier rough castings. Once I have those I’ll know what it’ll take to finish them. My hope is to have the end product, both top and bottom, be available ready to...

I can tell you a bit about the photo.
My grandfather Lee Patterson (left) and his friend Delwin Jackson left their homes in Laredo, Grundy County, Missouri to find work in Wyoming in 1929. They were both eventually employed by a Mr. Armstrong to break broncs. The trip took a scant 3 days and 2 nights.

I have copper fuel lines. Never a problem and no crimping. Neoprene or felt, whatever I have handy. Just make sure the line is a bit long so it pushes into the fitting and cannot fall out.

Dr Liston took some time from his busy practice and had his roadster photographed in Bellows Falls, VT near the Connecticut River. The source of the photo, the Rockingham Library has dated it as being taken on June 12, 1913. Note the added electric horn.
The photo is enlargeable.

I'd love to have a 1913 roadster.
I would as well. When I was about 10 or 12 I got a ride in one on a tour and we followed my family in our '24 T York-bodied depot hack which is heavy and slow. The lightweight roadster could do rings around it going up hills and also had a much smoother ride.

What size tacks to re-install the kick panels?

Just looking to see if anyone might know/remember what size they used when re-installing the kick panels, Not the upholstery nails that hold on the welting, rather the tacks that attach the kick panels to the wood frame. The kick panel material is 3/32 in thickness, so I am thinking that the 2.5 oz tack would be the right size. Any help is greatly...

My '25 roadster uses nothing, and I'll bet the touring doesn't either.
It is prior to your '25 Runabout, no metal channel/clips to hold the right-front and part of the left-front kick panel, but there are still tacks to hold the panels in place on a '25. Because of the metal channel/clips on a '25 Runabout, there may or may not be tacks along...

There is a Fordson Collectors site on the web that may give you more information about Fordson tractor parts. They do buy them. I sold them a magneto coil ring a few years ago and they were glad to get it.
Think this is the site you are referring to

Wow! What a disaster. I’m so sorry to see that! I hope you insured it for a substantial amount. A good illustration as to why to use heavy 3/4” plywood top, bottom and sides and 2”x 4” supports and to insure your shipment. Jim Patrick

Recently, I had the opportunity to purchase a '12 Torpedo formerly owned by a family friend. It is a nice genuine torpedo, partially restored in the '50s. It was driven quite a bit as an antique up through the 70s or so. At points during its history it had various rear bodies installed, including a truck bed. The original fuel tank and toolbox are...

Lang's spindle bolt reamer and alignment tool, how to use

Working on a 1927 Touring, thinking about ordering Lang's spindle bolt reamer and alignment tool, how do I use them?
Lang's reamer is .502, Snyders is .504 and anything else I can find doesn't say what the diameter is, the spindle bolts I have are .5001, the cheapest I've found for an engine rebuilder or machine shop to hone them is $53.00 each,...

Lifter guides

First post
When the lifter guides are bored to the max and there is still too much play, what do you use to bring the bores back to standard or at least the first OS?
I've heard of using a flange bushing with the flange at the bottom pressed into a circle milled out under the guide. Should be an easier fix with just a thin steel bushing.
What do folks do?

My new 14 has what appears to be a Bakelite or plastic switch cover on the coil box instead of the steel version. Was there a switch that was taking place around this time in production? I have looked at various books on the subject hoping to find a definitive answer. I am rather new at the bass era stuff so please excuse the lack of knowledge....

Is this a T rim or a Wanna-be?

I replaced the tires on my '26 Canadian Touring (15 years, thousands of miles, zero flats). Given the uncertain quality of new tubes, I'm reusing the 15-year old Universal brand tubes and hoping for the best.
Anyway, four of my rims have the common hinge-pin joiners (lower photo) and the fifth has a screw-thru-tongue latch system (upper photo)....
Last post
The type with the slotted retaining bolt is what I and most 26-27 owners consider correct for those years. They replaced the earlier rotating latch type rim. I have seen pictures of the piano hing type, before, but never knew they were Canadian.

Don't wanna rain on your parade, but last I knew no one had reeds. The mfg. is either out of business, or just quit making them. I've been on the waiting list for a year now. But good luck to you!

Two questions about 1927 coupe steering wheel.
Is the spider painted or should it be left bright metal (I wire brushed it)? In the photo it looks brownish , but it actually is bright silver. If painted what color, black or body color?
How should the handle be cleaned?

If you compound the grip with Meguiars rubbing compound then wax the grip with Meguiar’s paste wax, it will look 100% better. Black, shiny and smooth. Does yours have the Ford Script on the front of the hub? When you paint, and sandblast, be careful not to obscure the Ford Script on any parts you paint. Jim Patrick...

Two 1803s that I I have questions about.
One is a Stewart 1803 and stamped 1913 - this one has a rivet holding it together
Stewart Another 1803 this has a nut holding it together
one is a right and one a left. How does one tell a right from a left?
What years and which model speedometers?

I have one marked 1913 and it is a RH one. The other 1802 is not stamped, but is a left hand one.

Thanks Tom. I am going to machine up a replacement top and some spare tops and jam nuts along with new push rods to replace the worn or bent ones (probably bent in storage). I know there are upgraded replacements available but I like the idea of using the original style as much as possible.

Yes !! I have completely stock black spoke 16” or 17” steering wheels I’d deliver from south Texas to trade you and buy lunch......but, be advised, the fair market value of mine are $35 each and yours - probably $450 😜🇺🇦

This is a rear tapered spring but the front is even worse. Frank

Tyler, as per your recommendation I fully agree and have ordered new front springs. The one on the car hit the axle when I stopped in a hurry. As Frank stated in both his posts, the rear is a little less problematic. This is a very heavy all wood body towncar and it only had 7 leaves and some in the order of smaller to larger were missing. Hello all, I have the rear wheels off of my 1912 Flanders to look at the rear axle bearings. They appear to be larger than Model T, I'm wondering if by some lucky coincidence TT parts will fit. Can anyone tell me the dimensions of TT Hyatt bearings and sleeves? Thanks!
One bearing slipped out easily, but the other is hung up on a ridge, which...

I got it out! Turns out it wasn't a ridge in the sleeve, the old grease was just so caked that the bearing was stuck in like glue. I bent a piece of 0.032 inch safety wire into a half loop, then bent hooks into each end to hook behind the bearing end plate.
Holding steady pulling pressure on the wire while rotating the axle shaft finally walked...

I've had this, my first 'T', for a week now. It's a '26. As best as I can tell it's an older restoration from the 70's. The only rust I see is the floor under the seat and it's been painted over. One front fender has a small chipping area of bondo. All in all it's a great first time T. Also the first time driving one. A real eye opener! I'll have...

When you apply the parking brake or use it for neutral, squeeze the handle and pull back instead of letting the pall ratchet on the quadrant. When you get it all the way back let the handle go and pull to the next click if it will go any farther. That reduces wear on the pall.
If properly adjusted for neutral, the parking brake will be easier on...
