Phillips pump and tank Lubester

Post by Jacob Mangold » Wed Aug 09, 2023 11:30 pm

I have a Phillips pump and tank lubester with the serial number B0892. I am looking to restore it and use it down the road. It is in great shape. The tank has practically no rust and the only thing that needs to be replaced it the top pump housing because it is cracked. Anyways, can someone enlighten me about these pumps, I don’t have a picture but can get one tomorrow but maybe you could tell me the year from the serial number? I couldn’t find much online so I came here. Hopefully someone can help.

Thanks in advance, Jacob Mangold

Jacob, thanks for asking the question! I am looking forward to hearing from someone or someones who have done just this sort of restoration. I have a roll-around double lubester with glass cylinders in my shop along with a basket of glass oil bottles just to show folks how things used to be done. I don't plan to restore mine, but I suspect it's the pump and not the tank that bedevils you and if that is the case, this video may shed some light on its inner workings and how it is used: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GE8yyW9uJU

Best of Luck! ;)

Jacob and Scott. The video is a good basic primer showing the simplicity of that particular type pump. Some pumps have leather cups that need to be replaced, I own and have restored several pumps mounted on single, double and triple tanks.. They are simple (or I could not have done them) and if you can work on a T, you can do it. As you have found, there is not much info on them as compared to gas pumps, but, here again, there is not much involved in a restoration.
Jacob, you indicate a crack in the upper part---can JB take care of that problem, or are you missing a piece. As you both know, the gas pump suppliers have a multitude of decals to enhance the restoration.
Good Luck and Kindest Regards, Tim
