Trip to the Henry Ford

I am planning to go to the Henry Ford next spring. Preferably after all the snow and mess is gone from up north,
I see that hotels have rooms with discount tickets to the museum and such,
I also would like to see the model T plant and museum while I am that far away from home.kill a couple rocks with 1 bird.
Last time I went in 2003, I was with friends that had a motor home and i towed my small camper and we stayed at greenfield campground. It was great, but I am traveling alone this time, and am thinking it would be more enjoyable to just stay in a room 3 nights and be less work and better gas mileage with a Hemi, But on another note, I might rent a vehicial so if it goes caplooy or i am in a wreck, it aint my truck!
so I am just throwing this out there, some of you have been there alot more than I have and may know some pointers or ideas as to which place to stay is a good value and so forth.

The Henry Ford museum is open all year, however Greenfield Village closes for the winter (December 1st) and opens around the middle of May. That should keep you out of winter conditions hear in the Detroit area. Both the Henry Ford and the Ford Piquette Avenue Plant Museum have good websites to help plan your visit.

Another great car collection not far from Detroit (though not just Fords) is the Stahl Museum. They are open limited days and times but well worth the visit. Most of what you want to see is in the museum, so you could come before May. If you want to visit the village you should really come during the Old Car Festival in September.

We went in 2007 and again in August this year as part of our three week US tour, both times we stayed at The best Western Greenfield Inn. Hired a car from the airport, the hotel is easy to find and a short drive from the museum.
We had four nights there, one day at the museum, one day at Greenfield Village then another day, half of it doing the Ford Rouge plant tour and half a day exploring Detroit and a photo outside the Piquette Plant.

Thanks for the idea, I do also plan to go by the museum for the Tuckers , I went to it to back in 2003 and the Crawford on the way back home.

The Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners just northeast of Kalamazoo would be a worthwhile visit too while you’re in the area. It’s about 2-1/4 hours west of Dearborn.

All of the museums mentioned above are outstanding. Gilmore is huge certainly more than you could see in one day. A unique thing about the Stahl is that vast majority are in running condition, most even have some type of battery minder attached. They don’t display the entire collection and change things and take vehicles to other shows/events. In addition to the cars there is a large display of mechanical music orchestrations of many types, which the staff will demonstrate. If you are considering Gilmore, you could also add two more the list as they would complete a detour to the west. Not really that much out of the way.

Well all this is in the R and D stages , still debating if i should rent a truck instead of driving my own for example. thanks for the ideas, Duesenberg ,um, now you really have the gears turning! I won't be home for 2 months at this rate!
also depends on my dad's health, at 90 heading towards 91, you never know .he is doing great and has been for years but things happen.

Odd the internet says the villiage is open year around about above it is mentioned it is not open in winter. My cousin and his wife are wanting to fly up there and visit the muesuem and I told them the village didn't open till spring which messed up their idea as march was the best time for them to schedule a visit , so I am a little confused. but they wanted to see if I was able to go on my own as planned but maybe meet them for a day or 2 so we can see some sites together. so still planning.

I checked enterprise and considering my truck gets a whopping 14 to the gallon, i may rent a truck to drive.

I just went on to Greenfield Village / museum website. If you go to “buy tickets”, the tickets for the village start on sale April 12. The museum is open all year. I previously had a membership and if things are still the same, the village is open the first weekend in April for members only. Depending on how many days you plan to visit the two places a membership might be your Best Buy. They have different combo’s such as a membership that allows you to bring guests.

I haven't heard anything more from the cousin about it, until I do I can't really figure on when. I will check with them about mid febuary and if they aint figured out something on their end by then I will just act on my own as far as scheduling.
