WTB - 9/16 Geometric Die head and/or 5/16 Geometric thread chasers

Post by Scott_Conger » Sun Dec 28, 2025 8:36 pm

If you have a nice 9/16 die head that you no longer use and would like to see it get back to work, I'd like to discuss it with you

Additionally, I have a 5/16 die that I am currently using and am interested in filling out my selection of chasers, so again, if you have some for a 5/16 die and they are in good condition. and you would like to see them put to use rather than molder away in a tool box, please email me

this will keep my $$ out of eBay and into the hands of a fellow hobbyist, which I would prefer if at all possible

Finally, if I do not recognize you as a veteran Forum participant, we are not going to be able to make any deals. I don't have time or patience to deal with Scam Artists so spend your energy elsewhere.

thank you

For a 5/16 D/DSA die head:

8-32
7/32-32 (fractional size)
fine or course, for 12/14/16/18/20 (obsolete ASME machine screw sizes) - I actually have found a few of these but have not completed a purchase yet

I have easily over 100 standard dies which include all the above, but I am hoping to outfit this head with these chasers as well, since the resulting threads are far more accurate with the die head than with standard dies even when fixtured in the lathe

190 curious views and no leads tells me that a great many folks probably don't know what this tool is - so for info, here is a very short video of the tool and how it is used: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSMWLpx4rS4

to those 190 curious folks (and views beyond those) - thank you for looking :)

Definitely know what one is but your posted sounded like a single type. Yes, I have one but do not want to part with it due to gun smithing work. Will keep my eyes open but they do not show up very often.

Thank you Henry

BTW I just realized why you asked the question that you did, originally...boy am I slow!

I think one would be absolutely terrific for gunsmithing and now that I know how well they work, I would not want to ever give this one up, either ;)

Mine is a 5/16 that I am starting to use on little stuff on carburetors...love it so much, I want to pick up a 9/16 for bigger stuff

Scott, I have a type of self opening die head that appears to be triggered by a push rod external, rather than internally as my small geometric unit is. I’ve not had any luck posting photos here but I can text or email. It says style DM, has the letters pg in a small oval, and size 101, Eastern Mach screw corp, New Haven Conn. It does have an adjustable center plug in the mounting tube. I’ve never used it so I don’t have more details. The dies measure about 9/16” closed, just using a tape measure. If this of interest, PM me and I’ll get you pictures.
