I will be giving a presentation at the Winter Workshop at McPherson College on January 20, 2024 discussing the performance of a variety of Model T timers and the behavior and tuning of coils. I have developed a benchtop tester which fully simulates the performance of the timer / coil ignition system, including operation on magneto voltage. The system can measure the performance of any timer running on battery or magneto at any desired rpm. In addition, the system can drive a set of four coils and the behavior of each coil can be measured and observed on a storage scope. The presentation will include various timer performances including angular accuracies as a function of rpm. In addition, the presentation will include coil performance and methods to optimally tune coils using the benchtop tester under magneto voltages which complements ECCT measurements.
I will also bring my full test system to demonstrate. Additionally, I am planning to bring the system to Chickasha in March and can test your coils and/or timers on the system for free! Hope to see you!
