Hello Everyone,
I just registered so I could post about a T that I received I have the option to buy it I am planning on doing that the other option was to get in running and sell it and we split the money over a certain amount. But after getting it running and driving it I think I'll keep it.
22 years ago I was 18 and a friend taught me how to drive a model T I have wanted one ever since.
The car is a 1919 depot hack. the wood is excellent could use a refinish the paint is good the car is an older restoration. Had not run for a few years I pulled and cleaned the tank and carb. Got it started had to jack up the rear as the high gear clutches were stuck and it had too heavy of oil in it also. After warming up the clutches broke loose I changed the oil and drove it around some it drives nice.
The mag doesn't work so I tried a magnet charge with my welder didn't work so I pulled the hogshead to look. The mag is a rebuild but the last winding the wire didn't come out on top so they ran it in front of the triangle block and the magnet plates were hitting it so I thought great! that's the problem I was able to carefully reroute the copper ribbon alongside the block but still doesn't work. Now and then it will work for a short time but then back to 3 volts I may pull the hogshead again and look closer and also at the ground I was so sure I had it I didn't look for more.
The magnets seemed quite strong when I had it apart a wrench sicks to them hard so I think that's ok end play is good contact is good so if I don't see anything else I guess it's engine out time. What's strange is at one time I had 16 volts just off idle so I know I can work short or open somewhere I guess.
I'll Post some Pictures and see if anyone knows the car.

Did you try to recharge it again after you moved that ribbon? If it was grounded to the magnet when you charged it, your current went right to ground and did not charge the magnets. You can get a better charge if you do each one individually while the hogs head is off. Just remember the magnets alternate polarity so be sure to find out which pole is north and which south for each individual magnet. I borrowed a tool for charging individually, so I don't have a picture of one, however you can see how to do it from researching the old forums or buying the booklet published by the club "Electrical System". If you have a local club in your area, perhaps a member can help you. I will be in your area visiting a cousin and another friend who live at La Pine the second week in May Likely going through Bend Tuesday May 11 or Wednesday May 12 after Mothers day so if you are home during the day, we could meet and I could look at your car?

I've charged magnets both ways, on the flywheel and off. Photos of both are here: http://dauntlessgeezer.com/DG88.html
