Hello Forum,
Looking for advice on the preffered method of removing the inner race from the spindle on an early car with roller bearings. I was able to get one side off with some gentle heat and persuasion but not so lucky on the other side. Not looking to destroy the race (or spindle) if I can help it. Haven't seen any info on this in the search just discussion on removing the race from the hub. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Try 2 wood chisels, opposite sides, in the crack under the race. Can heat first. If it wont come, a couple stubs (like 2 nuts) can be welded to the race. Use the stubs as something to bite on in a press. Repair after grinding off the stubs.

Lorien, when you do get it out, don't be afraid to take a die grinder and make a couple of grooves inside the hub like the later hubs have. That will let you drive out any subsequently fitted cones.

Thanks guys! I was able to get it off by welding a couple beads and using a chisel. It is toast but wasn't the best to begin with. Thought I'd keep as a spare but in the scrap it goes!
