1913 Touring rear seat storage

I need to see the bottom and sides of the compartment below the hinged top. When I open mine, I see the frame, rear axle and ground.

Is it all wood on a '13 ? My '14 has a metal bottom to that compartment. If they are the same I will take photos for you.

13 is all wood. I can make it if I can see the way it was put together originally.

It would really help if I could see the wood. I can see that there are sides but I have to make it from scratch so I have to see the shape and orientation of all the pieces. The sides were probably on top of the bottom. Looks like the sides have a cut out at the top for access behind it.

The frame details under the rear seat are quite a bit different in the ‘13 and ‘14. Kind of like the doors. ‘14 has a steel pan for the bottom. Wish I had drawings like that for a ‘13.

Took this one of my 13 a couple years ago for someone so it was in my files. I can get more shots of it if you want but it is cold here so just be patient.

I saw one on an original 13 quite a few years ago. There were half circle cut outs on each side. Someone said that they were for side curtains.

Bob's pics will be mote useful as they are no doubt of original wood but at least this shows the circles you were talking about. I agree they are probly to help store those pesky side curtains. It gets pretty crowded in there.

Those are great photos, thanks for sharing. The wood in the back seat of my '13 touring was replaced in 1962 or 3. It has the curved out areas, but is different. I always thought the curved out area was for access to the rear fender irons?

Looks like the the sides go in first with cutouts for access to fender iron bolts. Then the back and the bottom boards last. There is an unrestored ‘13 just an hour away from me. Going to see it tomorrow to get measurements. Thanks to all who responded to my inquiry. It is greatly appreciated. The willingness of people to help and share information is one of the best things about this hobby.

Maybe the cut outs are later 13. Mine is an unrestored January 1913 touring. The side curtains were just folded up under the rear seat when I got it.

How could anyone not love the colors in that photo of Bob's car even if it does echo the word "patina"? The rich hues in the upholstery alone make my heart beat a little faster.

What is your body's builder stamped in the wood on the front seat riser? It's hard to see in the picture but mine has the big W stamped in front of the numbers.

Scott and Tim. Yes, I would be very interested in the body builders for these cars.

Bob, my car is a Wilson body #W136388. The number under the front seat will also be stamped on the top of each door under the metal trim piece. If you can get better pictures of the inside of the box back, sides and bottom, that would help. Also the thickness of the wood and the dimension from the top of the side to the bottom of the seat frame. Other parts on my car indicate that it is an early’13. It has a late 1912 style body plate on the firewall. The metal dash shield and guide in the front of the floorboard is the two piece 1912 style.

Dan, unfortunately most of the seat wood was "re-wooded", hence no number. If it were me, I woulda also restamped the new wood! Oh well. Also, I got her 'birthday" wrong, May 6 is the '11 Torpedo, Clara's, the '13's is actually April 22 FWIW.

She also does not have that awkward looking bracket under the rear doors. Her body sill is the thicker style that supposedly didn't require the extra bracket. For some reason Beaudette keeps popping into my mush-brain on the body? But have no idea really. At any rate, I did read somewhere that one body company made the thicker sills, I just really can't find it again, nor remember the body company's name.

Tim, I think most Beaudette bodies had a B stamped in the top center of the heel kick panel below the front of the seat.
The unrestored ‘13 I looked at Wednesday had that but also had no remaining numbers. The firewall had been replaced so no data plate. No seat compartment wood and all floor boards were plywood.
