Instructions for replacing Emergency/Hand Brake shoes?
Hi all, I'm upgrading my emergency/hand brake shoes to the lined versions. The brake rebuilding kit was delivered today but no instructions included. Where can I find instructions or an online guide or anything really that would help me out?

Which version of lined brakes did you get? The two piece or one piece set? It will make a lot of difference for getting accurate advice that is appropriate to your project

Link attached for older post on the newer reproduction one-piece lined shoes, '25 and earlier. And Ford instructions.
You'll likely get opinions to bust them apart, but IMO, don't... they work fine as made, original cast iron Ford, or the nice reproduction cast iron with linings.

I have installed several sets of the 2 piece small drum shoes. They required a lot of fitting. Make sure the springs are set to pull them toward the backing plate. They were too wide & needed trimming. I found painting the inside of the drum with a light coat of flat black helped find the areas that rubbed. Put the wheel on without the key & turn to find the high spots.

Use both springs in case they do break at the mounting bolt.
I know the voices aren't real but damn they have some good ideas!

I cut the one piece shoes half way through at the mounting bolt hole. That way, if the castings want to break, they will do it at that point. The TWO brake shoe springs will continue to hold both pieces in place and the brakes will continue to function as they should.

I will have to agree with Allan. I did the very same thing with my ‘24 touring. If they want to break, they will do so at the cut since that is a week point now.

I think the original cast iron 1 piece shoe had a notch there, so if they did break, they did so at that point.
