Post by Mr Model T Ford » Sat Mar 16, 2024 1:55 pm

Good Day all
I stay in South Africa, Wellington,Western Cape and want to visit Hershey in October 2024.

Can I ask one or two contact numbers/email addresses from any one who can assist me with some information on the trip regarding suggestions for accommodation, what to do and not .......!!!
Where to go after Hershey / Ford Model T museum etc.

Would really appreciate it support or suggestions in this regard.

Thank you
Andre Wessels

Hi Andre; If you're making such a long (expensive) trip, you might want to consider coming a week sooner and do the Carlisle flea market as well. It's mostly later model stuff but occasionally T stuff turns up there. We used to do both and visit Gettysburg between flea markets to get our share of rich American history....if you're into that. For us, Gettysburg was almost as enjoyable and informative as the flea markets and we always looked forward to the visit. Accomodations for the Hershey week are scarce and rather expensive if you want to be close. I camp on the site but other friends find a spot near Carlisle. Anyway, you will be amazed at the whole Hershey spectacle.......the flea market, the car corral, and the atmosphere. Absolutely the best ever time spent for a "car guy".

If you plan to rent a car, you will need a place to park it. You have two choices. You can park north of the meet, across Herheypark Drive, and pay the outrageous fees. Or you can do as I do and park for FREE in the public parking garage on Ridge Road south of the meet. The walk into the meet from there is a little under a mile. Will I walk a mile to avoid outrageous parking fees? Every day and twice on Sunday. :)
The inevitable often happens.

Thanks for the reply
If you camp on the Hershey site, can you camp in a tent.
What will the cost be per/day.
How many days do you need for the Hershey show.

Better plan on all 4 days. Tuesday through Thursday for swap meet, Friday most of the day for the car show.

Andre, you can only camp on the site if you have a vending spot(s).If you're coming with some friends (3-4) you might consider renting a camper. Camping spots are not cheap, but less than a motel room and you're right there.

If planning to camp in a tent, be advised that early October is a notoriosly wet time of year in Pennsylvania.

Marc is right . Don't even think of 4-5 days/nights in a tent. You will turn an amazing trip into a nightmare if the weather is not absolutely perfect..........which is sunny and warm in the daytime and warm and DRY in the night. Hershey is absolutely spectacular so don't cut corners, especially for the first and maybe only visit. You might be able to rent a real camper from an RV outlet and have it put on the campsite, or rent a motel room a few miles away from the site. You can also check with the Hershey campsite (formerly High Meadow) as they have cabins and maybe campers for rent and do have a shuttle to and from the flea market. Also don't wait too long to get your stuff organized as things fill up quick. You only go around once so don't cheap out on the most amazing automobile event of the year anywhere.
