Possibly these pix were to promote the bead-breaker tool the gent is using ? I don’t recall seeing very many period photos of a tire repair in progress.

I have one of those fancy tire tools - still haven't figured out how it works !

Also note the nice electric headlamp conversion within the acetylene headlamps.

Which tool? It appears that there are different pieces.
