Clutch Basket puller advice please

I'm about to venture into my first T Transmission and after watching a few videos I don't think I have the appropriate puller for removing the Clutch Basket if it is stuck on.
Beside buying a new one from a vendor what other options do I have?

First off, it better be stuck on. It's a press fit part. If it comes off easy, the hub or the shaft is too worn to reuse.

Langs sells a copy of a Stevens type puller for $195
The Ford Z tool is vastly inferior but usually works.
You could, possibly make a workable tool. A Harbor freight steering wheel puller set looks like a good start for about $18.
Harbor freight has a set of 2 arm pullers for around $30.

Best to find a local T friend for the loan of the correct tool.

Used with success a heavy gear puller. Was snuggle but off it came.

That looks like one of the HF 3 piece set.
Be real careful the tool don't blow apart under the strain.
Some hubs fit extremely tight.

Sometimes the original puller can't handle the job. It's been a few years, but I did figure out a method that worked.

I repeatedly applied a 50/50 mix of ATF and acetone to a badly rusted transmission that had been in the field for 50+ years. After 2 days, it came apart surprisingly easy.

I do have a few pullers, top right is a 6".
I'm going to a swap meet this Saturday so any ideas on what to look out for would be great.

I’ve successfully used an original puller on a non-rusted transmission.

I made a puller from scrap. It's not pretty, but does the job quite well.
The arms on the Ford design has a tendency to bend inward, which could possibly damage the basket.

Before you re-install the clutch hub, check for roundness.
A tough to pull hub can "taco" out of shape.

Oh yeah, that's how I did it. Since breaking my fall by hitting the pavement head first, I don't always do well with searches.

Hi Kevin,
I used a harmonic balancer puller with two L bolts made from grade 8 x 6" bolts with the heads cut off, heated & bent to a 90 degree angle
about 1/2" long. I now have the Ford puller but have had to make more robust pins for it & straighten it once after a especially had hub pull.
Has anyone considered drilling & tapping the main shaft so a stud could be installed & used to push the clutch basket back on the shaft
instead driving it on against the thrust bearing??

Mine's a bit like yours Toon. It has two hooks to engage in the clutch hub. The cross piece is a bit of heavy wall retangular hollow section, with a centre bolt to provide the "pull".

I’m surprised no one has mentioned using a little heat to remove the clutch drum. It works most every time. Heat up the drum at the shaft going through it, let it cool and use WD40 and let sit a while. It usually pulls right off.

Maybe there's a reason.
These are press fit parts. Anything that changes sizing lessens the fit. That would be bad.
Using fluids to penetrate rust & baked in grease is ok.

I guess everyone has a different view of how to do it but when I heat the center of the hub I
dont get the hub red hot meaning it doesn’t get that hot. Let it cool it will be Ok.
The hub will press back on as usual and a good tight fit. It works for me.

PB Blaster the night before, then use a gear puller, some heat, and tapping around the basket with a hammer. Careful though, once it lets loose the gear puller might fly off

Toon - That looks a simple build, What's the distance between the 2 holes in the plate?

The plate is : 125 x 50 x 12 mm
The holes are 13 mm , and centre to centre 82 mm .
And the two small plates are : 40 x 25 x 6 mm with a 10 mm hole .

Couldn't find a suitable puller but I bought this today at a swap meet.
I'll pull it apart tomorrow and that might confirm if what I have on hand is suitable for the job.
