Why does this also matter to people not in California?
Many states are following the California rules with more added every year.
California, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington
New motor home sales have already been almost completely shut down.

This whole issue is going to turn ugly as changing vehicular laws sweep across the nation.

Yep.
You know, with the horrible things that happen there , earthquakes, wildfires, mudslides, you would think the government would have more important things to do that even think about old cars .

Yes it matters to all of us.
I read somewhere that most state constitutions have a clause that says that the state has to follow what happens in California.
Back in 60’s you would look up parts for a car and there were two listings. California cars and everything else.
Later that went away cause every car was now a “California car”.

Its easy to stamp out the little guy. Money talks and the rich get their way. The LA beachfront houses will be rebuilt regardless of the effect to the environment, much more detremental than an old car that gets driven less than 1000 miles/year.

It’s really time to get back to common sense as our new sheriff has pointed out! We saw what happened to Callifunny a few weeks ago. And still some folks can’t figure it out!

This isn't the first time California's legislative idiots have tried to ban our beloved Model T and classic cars. Believe it or not, it was the vintage motorcycle crowd that beat them back the last few attempts. Unfortunately, it is just a matter of time before they succeed. You get what you vote for folks.

Perhaps it’s possible for members of national clubs to organize and work in concert to prevent legislation that is harmful to the whole community of vintage car enthusiasts ?

In unity, I’d think the constituency should be fairly impressive. Ford organizations alone, there are two Model T clubs, Model A, V-8, and probably others ? The AACA , HCCA and VMCCA have been around for a long time. Many marques have their own organizations, Packards have two national clubs, then there’s Hudson, Terraplane & Essex Owners, I’m sure I’m overlooking many that I’m unaware of.

Beyond that, I’m confident the goodwill our organizations generate simply by offering our cars to a receptive public to view and interact with should add weight to efforts to curb unreasonable and restrictive legislation in California alone, to say nothing of the possible response on a national level. We’re a quiet bunch, hardly given to activism, but it would appear a “push back” is necessary . Don’t let them “divide and conquer” !

Don't forget SECA (?) and mfrs and vendors of parts for cars up into the 1970s and the MT, Custom, Drag crowd, crowd, et al. The fact is Americans LOVE cars, whether the Sacrademento Tyrannist Klavern does or not.

Unfortunately, this has been an ongoing effort for decades, and worldwide, not just CA. It is an issue that we all face.
It comes in the guise of various forms...
Banning older vehicles from urban areas...
Using environmental sentiment to eradicate "polluters"...
Cash for clunkers to encourage trade in for new cars to "stimulate the economy" (but also had the requirement to destroy the vehicle, further reducing existence of any classics and parts)...
Using relative/disparate insurance risks and perceptions of safety to ban older vehicles...
The onset of "connected vehicles" eliciting perceptions of increased safety compared to "unconnected", higher risk vehicles...

The efforts are unabating, the reasons legion, the outcome the same. The efforts are sold to the public using emotional dogma that the sheep will not argue with, and will conform.
The drivers of these efforts aren't just your Local/State/ Federal politicians, but includes environmentalists, the insurance industry, etc; anyone with any vested interest in banning older vehicles.

The problem we face is that we represent a minority faction.
In addition, our society has been trained to not question or challenge, which breeds apathy. Very few pay attention to what's happening politically until after the fact, when it's too late. But for which any efforts to stop any legislation goes lacking given apathy and inaction. Recognition of such threats and calling to arms is also diminishing as clubs, membership, and participation declines. Quite a conundrum.

But Mark's post is critically important for us all, and something we all need to do if anyone see's any pending legislation in any locale. For the takeaway is these efforts are not only ongoing, but will no doubt simply increase. We WILL eventually lose, the only question being 'when'. But IF you care, then it's incumbent upon all of us to remain vigilant, become aware of such efforts, to NOT BE APATHETIC(!!), take action by voicing your opinion to your legislators as your democratic right and responsibility, and most of all don't fall into the trap of not caring about what's happening in some other State...cuz so the domino's fall. Most everyone knows somebody in other States...contact them, convince them to contact the associated Reps. Just, don't be ignorant, don't be apathetic, and don't complain after the fact, especially if you did nothing......
Call me anything you want...just so long as it isn't "late for dinner"

Most of us don't drive enough to be any problem at all except for going slow. I believe that the people of California are waking up to what is happening to our state by the things which have been happening. They tax us for roads and then use the money to construct bike lanes taking away a lane from the road and removing parking in some business districts. You hardly ever see a bicycle. In the past they used to clear firebreaks on all the hills so that if a fire started, it could be stopped or slowed down. Now some places they don't even remove dead trees or underbrush because of the" habitat" One fire causes more C0 to into the atmosphere than all the cars on the road! Gavin is termed out in 2 years. I am hopeful the people will wake up to what he and his people have done to the country and elect some leaders who will listen to the people.

Exactly.
What amazes me to is you have so many wealthy car collectors in that state, like Jay Leno for example , that drive their cars, and such, alot of movie stars collect cars of all sorts. Why aren't these folks speaking up?

As of December 2024, California is not banning classic cars, but it is considering regulating them. The state's ambitious clean energy goals and Zero Emission Zones could limit the ability of classic cars to be driven in certain areas.

Explanation
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has been gathering data on classic cars, including how often they are driven and how they are stored.

CARB has proposed Zero Emission Zones that could prohibit high-emission vehicles from entering certain areas.
Local governments could enforce these zones and charge drivers of non-compliant vehicles a daily fee.
The goal is to eventually have no petrol or diesel cars on the road.

I wonder if the prohibited high-emission areas include these places:
Pacific Palisades, Malibu, Topanga, Pasadena, Altadena, Sierra Madre, La Canada Flintridge, Sylmar, and Granada Hills.
The past is a great place and I don't want to erase it or to regret it, but I don't want to be its prisoner either.

LA International Airport is right there…., uhmmmm

Whom does not know how much CO2 gas is emitting from the exhaust of a jet engine? The greatest pollution comes from a turbine engine but since it is their junkets it can’t be true, it must be the cars! And don’t forget all that low lead aviation fuel for piston driven private aircraft that on average burn 10 gallons per hour with no emission controls or devices. And don't forget all those unspent fuel/hydrocarbon particles that cause light refractory!

The pink panty club is always right, if you do not believe them ask them!

Science tells the truth with data with a true base line of a statistical data…, since 1910 when true atmospheric measurements started, CO2 levels have only increased by .01%. Now ice cores and other true data, ie, soil samples show approximately 2,000-3,000 years ago, CO2 levels were over 10 times higher.

Not telling the truth in a public office of representing people you serve is tyranny. Follow the money and hidden interest will tell you who they really serve.

All I can say is, the more plant based your diet is, the more trouser coughs you experience and there is methane contributed to the environment. So you stop eating the cow and instead eat it's grass and plants and the problem just moooves from the cow to YOU being the contributing factor to climate change. so then what? Corks and charcoal underwear for everyone?
There is a point in time that some of this climate change stuff gets ridiculous, 1/3 of california has burned over the past few years but yet a few model T's are the problem? Come on. and you know the routes you would drive, parkways and campgrounds such, would be the "no fly zones" for our old cars.
And then once this gets in the jet stream and floats over America like Japanese rice balloons in 1944, the rest of us will be told we can't drive our cars where others can.

Next time you have a conversation with a Climate Activist ask them what Photosynthesis is......

Photosynthesis is a chemical process where plants, algae, and some bacteria use sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide, CO2, to create oxygen and sugar (glucose), essentially "making their own food" through the conversion of light energy into chemical energy that can be used by the organism; this process is vital for life on Earth as it produces the oxygen we breathe.

CA Forest Fires were a double whammy: They polluted the air & earth with toxic ash & reduced the Earth's ability to produce oxygen.

Maybe we should be planting trees instead of banning the use of fossil fuels

It's all about common sense and getting our priorities straight. None of which is happening in California.

The only good thing that came from the current fires happening in California is they are occurring in predominantly liberal enclaves. Maybe the unfortunate loss will wake a few of these folks up and the much needed regime change will finally occur.

Lastly, With the highest taxes in the nation overall, one has to question where all the money is being spent and on what? Surely, the money is not being spent on providing adequate fire fighting resources or infrastructure. Personally, I believe there should be some form of accountability and heads should role.

On another post concerning mass car collections such as Jay Leno. Well better do your homework folks, as with the most of you I enjoy Jay and his passion but the reality is it is a shell game so to say. A massive car collection would cost a fortune to insure and register with DMV. So..., You have the cars in your possession but not titled in your name..., Signed titles from pervious owners in the safe with a log of the vehicles and you apply at the DMV (Nazis in disguise) for a DEALERS tag and LICENSE. Get the appropriate insurance and you are immune to ownership liabilities and conforming standards by the state of cali-fruity due to friends in high places!

WOW.., what a concept, where do I get my information package? Well, send $59.95 if you want it and $29.99 if you don't to the state capitol building and address it to; Children And Sailors Home, please abbreviate your check C.A.S.H. and we will be more than gladly to put you on our list!

The APCD was started to stop the smog problem in some cities such as Los Angeles. They succeeded when the emission control devices such as exhaust gas recycle and catalylic converters were added to cars. The agencies don't want to lose their jobs when they reach their goal. They just keep looking for more things to do and impose on the people. In the past the papers and other combustable materials were burnt in incinerators, either on the property or at the dump. One of my first jobs was to sweep up the sawdust and wood shavings in a furniture factory. I then took them out to an incinerator to burn. The spray paint was just cone in a booth with a fan which put it outside into the air. Now it has to be filtered and the wood shavings have to be composted. When they cleaned up the smog, they had to look for other things to do. There are now not enough old cars driving enough miles to cause a problem. Hopefully they won't outlaw our old cars. I am too old now to worry about it happening to me, but it is something for our younger enthusiasts to be of concern.

Maybe finally folks in Callifunny will begin to understand voting does make a difference! I don’t know how much longer folks will keep taking it! It did down here in Texas with the border. And yet even down here there are some that still don’t get it. I have two cousins that belong in that group! We are breathing a little easier for at least 4 years.

I’m not sure but I remember hearing that the big west coast state created a “moving away tax” for folks who moved out of the state.
