First T, First Post

Post by JZSlenker » Mon Jul 28, 2025 9:23 pm

Hello friends. My name is Jason and I have just freed my first model T well TT actually from a 40 year slumber in the back of my uncles garage. I'm hoping you can help me come up with an approximate fair market value for what I have to work with. As this is an "in the family" purchase I likely won't have to pay the market value, but want to have an idea of what it is before I make the offer. What I know about it so far...
Engine is a 1924 with starter, generator and water pump. The engine turns over and has a set of coils that I have not tested yet. I don't know what gear range is in the rear yet. Any input on the value is greatly appreciated. I'm sure I'll have tons of more questions later but this is step one to making it "mine". Thanks!

Hello Jason,

Congratulations on your "new" truck.
This is sad but true: TTs do not have the same value as a T. I own 2 TTs so I have some knowledge.

Yours is MISSING:
Hood,
All the wiring,
Fenders,
TT running boards,
Battery holder ( the one in the cab, is NOT for a TT),
Doors,
Glass Windshield,
Electric switch for Battery/Magneto/lights,
Ammeter & the bracket that holds the ammeter and electric switch,
Roof,
Bed,
Headlights,
Seat & seat springs,
to name some of the things I don't see.

I'm sure there are more things I am missing.

In the condition it is in, and being as it is family, I would say $1,000, to $2,000 tops. We own a 1925 TT with Express bed, fully operational, good paint & tires, with a 1914 Witte hit & Miss engine mounted in the bed running a pop can crusher. We purchased it for $7,000.

I agree, two grand tops, depending on the condition of the engine. The presence of a water pump suggests that the radiator is probably shot. The bare bones for a decent TT are there, but Terry's list shows that you will need lots of parts. You live in a perfect place for finding some of them, because every October the world's greatest automotive swap meet occurs in Hershey. Start saving dough and getting in shape for three days of walking.

There's not a great market for TT's as it is, I say 2k is being overly generous for an open market offer for a TT in need of so many parts.... I seriously doubt a seller could get that much considering its condition and the fact it has a Hodge podge of parts from various years. Most would look at that as a parts car, more valuable parted out than one to be restored.
Mine was restored and I couldn't get one bite even after dropping all the way down to 5k 7 yrs ago... after putting in at least 3 times that. I finally bartered it away in exchange for $3,500 worth of body work/paint job labor.
My vote is offer 1k... they'd be hard pressed to get that..
I can certainly appreciate sentimental value, but that TT is going to require quite an investment to restore.
But hey, it took me 30 years to restore my TT!
Good luck, owning a T is a wonderful thing!!
I hope you have the 5:1 axle & not the 7:1...but at least you can get new gears now.
Call me anything you want...just so long as it isn't "late for dinner"

Radiator shroud, running boards...but the most important part besides the ignition switch already mentioned is the fan belt in order to get it running.
We bought our T in deplorable condition for $1000. A clean title itself is worth another $250 on top of its value. Jason, hopefully, your uncle has a cache of the parts which could double the value.

This is awesome info. Thanks so much. So far I was able to find the fenders, radiator cover, a hood and headlights. There is likely more parts but there are lots of places to look.

If your family likes you $500... if they don't $750....

it looks like the great start to a project.... worthy of getting back on the road...

KEEP LOOKING FOR THOSE PARTS!!!!

Every one you find, means you do NOT have to find and buy one.

I expect, they were all taken off and "stored". All you have to do, is find them.

IF you want to get some part numbers: http://www.cimorelli.com/mtdl/default.htm This is a GREAT resource.
