Uplifting support but for what?

Howdy. New to me ‘25 touring (motor 12,3xx,xxx) from Texas.

Crawlin around underneath trying to knock 100 years of grease and grime I came across the attached bracket riveted to the drivers side frame underneath the gas tank, pretty sturdy, with a C cup hook on the end of about an inch in diameter. Too small for drivetrain or exhaust, too big for e-brake or lines.

Anyone know what it’s for? Hang groceries under the car? Carrier for javelins? It’s got a lot of accessories such as hassler shocks, electric windshield wiper, oil pan wings and a fan belt tensioner, so someone was really into modifications some time in its history.

Just curious.

This is the grommet you need to surround the battery cable inside that bracket: https://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/prod ... &cat=41825

The cable should be #00 gauge, NOT a skinny 12 volt cable from your local auto parts store. Buy the correct thickness and length cable from a Model T parts supplier or else your starter's operation will be affected.

Not an accessory. Your 20 should atleast have a hole in the frame where it mounted to.

It did not show up until the 1922 Parts List, T-5047-C, Battery to Switch Cable Support, factory not aftermarket. Correct for your '25 and will fit the 1920 as well.

The parts books list the support bracket as first being used in 1920
I guess the 1919 cars had none?

Per the diagram: the support is mounted upside down.

Pretty sure the one on my 1925 which looks to never have been off the car is mounted like the one in the top photo with the curved part up which matches Fig 45 in the December 1925 Ford Service. Which makes more sense as vibration could shake the grommet out with it facing down. Fig 60 wiring diagram shows it the same way.

The Ford Service and Repair Manual (2009 Digital Reprint) shows it 2 pictures.
They seen to show it on the bottom rail U pointed up.

All the ones I have seen were like the one in the picture.
But I have not seen everything or any of these cars when they were new.

Well, that upside down mounting of the battery cable support bracket is a LHD thing. I checked a number of RHD frames and my cars, and our brackets are mounted to the underside of the top flange, u channel down, on the right frame rail utilising one of the fuel tank bolts to mount it. Bear in mind that our cable is much longer that LHD parts. Mounting it on the top of the rail, U channel down, lifts it well clear of the exhaust pipe as it heads to the frame mounted foot starter switch, which is close to the exhaust pipe.
The original rubber grommets have flanges on each end, and the curved end of the bracket is clamped around it, so there is no chance of it slipping out.
