21 inch rims - how many kinds are there?

Post by DHort » Sat Jul 18, 2020 8:14 pm

A friend of mine has a 1927 TuDor. He has wood spokes with 21 inch rims. He needs to replace those rims with better ones. Are they all interchangeable? Or are they like clinchers - Hayes, Kelsey, Ford, etc? What might be a good source for him to get replacements? We are in Milwaukee.

Add to that mix 21" rims for other cars that used the same size tires and may even have been made by some of the same companies that made them for Ford, but are just a little different.
I know the voices aren't real but damn they have some good ideas!

There were differences between Ford rims too. Canadian rims had approx 1/4" holes drilled in the outer edges either side of the splt to accept a special tool used to pull the rim in when fitting tyres.

After posting a few want adds and buying some "not so good" rims, I am having 5 new ones made by Stephen Hood in New Zealand. They should be ready in about 1 more week.
