$1,155.00 Ford script Hall tail/stop light on EBAY

What a bargain ! On Ebay, (#143672020194) a two for one deal ! One Ford script stoplight and one Dodge Brothers DB Type 2 stoplight, Both are complete and need restoring, but very restoreable. Forgot whether its an auction or Buy It Now. Either way, they'll cost you a minimum of $1,155.00. Geez, I'll make him a deal; I'll sell him half of the Ford script lights that I have, and half of the Dodge light that I have for this price. If he can get the same price for a pair of lights, he won't have to work for a year.

Certainly not the best buy for a car guy but if I were a rich guy with a Man Cave in a plush neighborhood I might buy them to impress my drinking buddies.
When did I do that?

If you think that's bad, there's a guy who's selling a "2 year only" ignition switch / cutout assembly for a Harley J or JD... Buy it Now is 7 grand. Minimum bid is 2 grand. True, it's a rusty covered original, and it includes all the modern repop parts (??!!??) to make it work like new...

It's like the guy who had the license plate I wanted for my bike, a 21, that I got for the exhorbant amount of a grand when I was a kid. A competitor bid it up to $250, I dropped out, he won... then I got an email saying this allegedly anonymous person had been following the auction, and had one in exactly the same condition, but they wanted $400 for it.

Part of what keeps me going is knowing that the hobby we're part of is something we can hand off to the future... not scalp them for it, or feed "flippers" by selling our stuff reasonably only to have them pull stuff like that.

Reminds me of an old joke.

Sven decided he wanted to get in the used car business.

He parked two completely rusted-out 1985 Lincoln Town Cars on a vacant lot, painted "$50,000" on both windshields and then sat in a lawn chair next to the cars.

A couple hours later, Ole walks by and says, "Sven, dere's no vay in hell dat you vill be able to sell both uff doze Lincolns fer 50,000 bucks each."

Sven replies, "Dat's da beauty of my plan. I only need to sell one to make money......."
