Closed car mirror

Does anyone have any experience with installing an A-17741-A side view mirror on a 26/7 Tudor? I don’t really want to grind on my door hinge, but it appears that is what needs to happen for this mirror to fit. The fitment is about a half a hole off. I could also grind on the mirror arm but then it would need to be re-plated. Are there any other mirrors that would be a direct fit?

I think the hinges are slightly smaller for the A models vs a T model. I would contact the company you got it from first for their recommendation. If your stuck with it: Have you tried to flip it upside down to see if it would be closer to fitting? You may be able to return it since the catalog vs the box information differ. The catalog seems to indicate a use from 1926-1931 but the box label is more specific indicating just for model A’s. Appear to be two screws on the mounting flange, also it appears on the inside you may be able to remove some material that would not be seen to help in fitment but can’t be sure.

I have that mirror on my 1926 coupe, fits fine. Your hinge looks much bigger than mine.

I also had trouble fitting the outside mirrors. I ground the surface of the mirror that goes toward the door. I didn't grind the inside flat, but curved to match the door hinge. I wouldn't advise making any modification to the door hinge.

If you grind the arm for clearance, replating is the best permanent solution for a finish. However, when I was in college and short on resources, I had to weld two halves of a chrome plated part back together. I ground the weld and polished the metal to look like a new, plated, part. Then I applied clear nail polish to the repair. In the next 5 years that I had that truck, there was never any rust and I could not tell where the repair was if I had not done the work myself. Just an FYI comment...

I am using a similar pair I ordered from Chaffins, 7853HPL and 7853HPR, Lefts and Right. Holes lined up and very little filing to fit. Call and talk with Dave,

Update: I had talked to Dave at Chaffin’s and he was very helpful. Basically what he said was there is only one manufacturer making these mirrors and that they are made for a model A. They’ll fit on some T’s without modifications but not all. There were several different hinges on the enclosed closed T’s due to the different body manufacturers. When Ford came out with the model A all of the hinges were standardized. What I ended up doing was grinding the inside of the mirror arm as suggested, but stopped when it was getting kind of thin and ended up having to grind on the hinge also. It’s nothing that couldn’t be undone with some welding to build it back up if I ever needed to. So far I’m loving the look of this mirror.
