From the Arkansas City Daily Traveler, Monday, November 29, 1920:

The paving boom continues in Arkansas City. Petitions are already in for about a half million dollars worth and other petitions are coming in as rapidly as the property owners can sign them up.

One of the Model T's effects was to accelerate the improvement and paving of streets and roads. In this part of the country the boom in paving city streets was in the late teens and early twenties. These little items about paving various streets or blocks have been appearing occasionally in 100 Years Ago for the past few years. It didn't all happen at once. When labor was much cheaper than today the city had a three man crew that spent the summer taking up the bricks a block at a time where they had become uneven, and relaying them.
The inevitable often happens.
