Might have been for an electrified fence set up. They used a similar type of coil.

Electric fence coils typically have an added long glass tube and ball bearing that bounces up and back, completing contact, so the coil points don't hit fast, to preserve battery and the charge to the fence wires only has to cycle slowly.

There were many early cars that used trembler coil units, that one could have been used on a single cylinder combustion engine.

That is a T-4256 Jacobson-Brandow coil unit that was used on the 1910 Model T. They were a good coil when new, and are good coils today after being properly rebuilt, but a major design flaw was locating that primary contact spike so close to the high tension terminal and the condenser. The rosin originally used to pot the windings would dry out and crack, allowing moisture to enter. Then you've got arcing and the coil's toast.

Remember that I carried the super restored early coil box from Luray to FL for your customer, peeked at the top side of the coils and the points didn't look the same.

Haven't seen that 'spike' on a T coil before

Those same points were used on the one cylinder Brush coils and the '09 Hudson (or maybe it was the '09 Cadillac).

I think the '09 Hudson used Heinz coils. At least the one I worked on did.

Yep; you are right. I have built coils for both cars over the years and should have kept them straight. Or at least not have been too lazy to get up and check the tag on a Heinze box that I have on my coil shelves.
