Non Starter Vehicle Wiring Question - 1918

Post by LEW1918TT » Mon Feb 22, 2021 2:45 pm

Non Starter Wiring Dia.jpg
In this original engineering drawing, there is a Head Lamp Dimmer T8892 shown for a non-starter vehicle. This is used with the steering column mounted horn button/light switch combination for non-starter cars(1917-1922 ?). I’m thinking it’s a relay to step up the power to the headlamps when the switch is moved from normal(dim) to bright position.
I'm looking for more information on this part. 1) Does anyone know anything about this item? 2) Does anyone have a Mod T with one on it? 3) What would it consist of for possibly duplicating it? 4) If anyone has one would they be willing to sell it?

The "dimmer" is actually an inductor placed in series with the headlights.
It acts like an AC resistor to the magneto AC voltage.

I drive a Model T ... Microseconds don't matter :D

For every Absolute Model T Fact there are at least three exceptions.

There are actually two separate coils in the one unit. They both knock down the voltage so the headlights don’t burn out. The bright wire goes to one and the dim to the other, the single wire goes to the headlights to be wired in series.

Thanks for the pics. Now I know what one looks like I can look for one. If you know of any for sale please let me know.
