12 volt Alternator?
Does anyone know who makes the 12 volt alternator that is a direct replacement for the gear-driven six volt generators on later Model T's? I know the vendors sell them but wonder who they get them from?

Re: !2 volt Alternator?
Be aware of high failure rates. 1) the gear is pinned with a C pin. They tend to shear & fall into the motor. 2) They need good air flow to cool. Without a fanned pulley & the obstruction from the mount, they run hot & can burn up. A buddy had one go bad. It let the smoke out of the generator wire to the firewall & switch. Really ugly.
You can run a stock T generator. Just reset the output to 1/2. It doesnt care what voltage its charging.
You are working real hard to change your T to 12V because of a poor starter. Its the starter, not your high compression head.
Easier & cheaper : 8V battery. Every thing will work on 8V. No other changes necessary, maybe lower generator output. 8V will compensate for that weak starter.

Re: !2 volt Alternator?
My car has no generator or alternator and runs a 12 volt geared starter. The Hot Shot charger from John Regan keeps my 12 volt odyssey battery charged at 90+%. I’m researching for a friend who wants to know his options before deciding which way to go. I appreciate you sharing the potential problems with the alternator....those are the things he needs to know.

I needed one bad a couple years ago, Langs were on BO, Macs had one & I bought it. I think they come from Buckeye Auto Electric in OHIO, they use a core with an internal fan so they should last longer that the Texas T alternators that used a older Delco core that was made for an External Fan. Or, Heaven Forbid, put a generator on the car. So long as you're not buying a $65 Krylon rebuild off of eBay and stick to known members/vendors, you can put a piece of equipment on your car which will pretty much outlast you, and not look like something that came off of a Kia.

Tim, just ordered my replacement 12 volt alternator from Buckeye Antique Auto Electric $235.00 — they supply Langs, Snyders’s etc.

My Texas T 12 Volt Alt has been running from ~2010.. no problems.. Put it in so I could run Christmas lites off of an Inverter.. Left it and the Inverter in the TT.. Handy

Belt on px side. Oil pump in gererator hole for pressure mains. AC compressor on Px side and alternator mounted on top of compressor. All riven with one serpentine belt. Works great!
