I was looking through some other stuff today and found an all brass sediment bulb which has some obvious differences and one not-so obvious one.
There is no hex just under the thread where it screws into the tank. Witness marks on the bulb body show where a pipe wrench had been used to screw it in at one stage. Then, on the side outlet where there is usually a square to take a wrench to screw in the brass outlet and screen, was a cast in hex.
Not so obvious is the slightly more angled taper to the shut-off valve. The later tapered valve is a little smaller at the handle end.

Was this a transition piece between the earlier shaped bulbs and the near universal type used in other brass bulbs and their later cast iron look-a-likes?

I believe these were used in 1912 only
