My Engine is 8009724 original to the car.
what is the birthdate? in July 1923
I bought this from the original owners family. I have the original purchase receipt and title from Bryant Ford Asheville NC. Was originally a Chassis and a Hack Body added. It was used at a locally in Asheville NC until 1939. It was last plated 39 and sat in the storage barn for near 40 years.
The Grandson had moved to Ft Myer in the 70's and planed to restore it but passed away and the family did not want to restore it. I found it on Ebay of all things and purchased what was left of it in 2009. I had one picture of it with the original owner but it was lost in a move, hoping I can find it again. There wasn't much of the body left when I purchased it. This picture is what it looked like after extensive clean up and removing all the rotten wood, clean and painted the chassis. Look NEW tires! Sadly it took another 13 years to finish it, and now those new tires dry rotted!

Your engine's birthday is Friday, July 13, 1923. Graveyard shift. How do I know what shift? It's just a guess. Your engine is #1178 out of 7545 made that day. Assuming steady production, that would be 2515 per shift. I'll call it about 3:45 AM Friday morning.

Yes, anyone can look up the date their engine number was entered on the Ford Engine assembly section log for many of the Ts (1915 or so onward are listed on pages 510 to 537 of Bruce McCalleys' "Model T Ford" which is out of print -- but you can find copies and you can get the CD version from his widow. Note that is the date it was entered into the log. In some cases numbers were sent to other assembly plants for use there rather used that day at the main engine assembly plant. And in those cases the engine would be assembled there and stamped there with a serial number that was sent to them. Ford did not stamp bare blocks or short blocks at the factory - only complete engine, transmission assemblies.
Off to a zoom meeting -- if you want more info on engine numbers please send me a note and I'll look up the information.
