Ford Script Oil Cans

Russ Furstnow and I are currently having discussions on oil cans. Russ recently posted some very nice photos of tools and oil cans he believed to be correct for various years. It's a great article except for the oil can he uses for each and every year! I stand by my research that the oil can pictured for the early cars is a Maple City manufacturer. I established this by setting up a ratio and proportion example using calipers to measure the example in the parts book, and placing the calipers on another example of a known Ford tool pictured on the same page. The Ford script of course is not big enough to see, but that is not too important since the example must have had the Ford script! If you go onto a google search on this topic, you will see many other examples of these oil cans used throughout Model T production. Another example is Noera, They had the Ford script in two places just like the Maple City example, but the neck for the spout is larger, proving that their example is not the one pictured, but most likely used at the same time. There is an example, most likely a Noera on ebay right now, with the Ford script and an 'N' below it, probably used in the late teens. This is only a guess on my part!

You are dead wrong to ever use artists drawings in a Ford document as proof of anything. AND, why must it have had the ford script? Because orig Larry smith says so? Ha! I DESPISE when someone does that and then states historical accuracy. Now show me dated work orders, BOL and other paper, I’m with you all the way. Anything else is just speculation and half assed educated guesses. Myself, I don’t think it’s doable as I’ve not heard of the survival or the discovery of such documents as of yet.
