Doheny's Pan American Gas, based in California. Doheny made his pile drilling in Mexico. In 1922 he was accused of being involved in Teapot Dome, but eventually was cleared. Pan American was the biggest oil company in the USA at the time. In 1954 the company merged with Standard of Indiana to form Amoco.
