Info on Trailer GPS tracking units please

Post by cwlittle » Wed Jun 08, 2022 10:51 am

There have been several threads in the past regarding trailer tracking gps units. However from what I found there has been no true detailed “reviews” of units, with pros and cons discussed. I am considering getting one for my aluminum bodied enclosed trailer and would like to know what folks experience has been with them so I can decide the best and most cost efficient to purchase.

I live in a rural low crime rate area and only use the trailer for going to tours etc. I don’t want to have to hard wire one, so probably battery operated would be preferable.

A recent post mentioned one available from this site: www.gpsandtrack.com. It is battery powered and says the battery is good for up to 5 years (?). Also mentioned is the trak-4, available on Amazon. Has anyone experience with either, good or bad, that they can share?

Also any others that one would highly recommend?

This may be obvious, but you will need to find a location for it that will be hard to find. That's not as easy as it sounds.

You should investigate Apple's "Air Tag" https://www.apple.com/airtag/
About the size of quarter, its range is 33ft to anyone's iPhone, so its essentially infinite. The application works on most any phone not just Apple. There is no subscription fee and it works off a small mercury battery (life 1 yr I believe) $30. So even the thief's phone may help locate it/them

There are other similar devices GOOGLE , Samsung but they may not work exactly the same

The past is a great place and I don't want to erase it or to regret it, but I don't want to be its prisoner either.

Attach a toolbox to the floor. Put it in there with a bunch of tools you no longer need, and make it messy, just so it looks like it has been there a while. They probably will not be looking for any tools.
