More 1922 Centerdoor

Post by Will_Vanderburg » Wed Aug 24, 2022 2:28 pm

Doing some test fitting on my Centerdoor.

Hood is slightly out of square.

And the notch for the PILLAR COUPE (that’s what the parts book calls it) is too big.

The sill was replicated by another person and does not match the dimensions of the partial original I have that came with the car

The bends in the hood panels are infinitely adjustable. It is easier to make each one fit one at a time. You need to have the cowl lacing in place before starting. Take the side panels off, and re-bend the top panels until you have them following the body line. Do the same at the radiator end. Often overlooked on new hoods is the lack of a shallow bend at the hinge end at the front of the top panels. You need to put this bend in. Otherwise, when the hood is closed, the hinge rod will be lifted out of the keeper on the shell and your nicely adjusted hood will no longer fit as it should.

Once the top panels fit, refit the side panels and check your work. With luck, all will be well, but body/radiator/frame alignment may still give you headaches. We tend to strive for a fit which is often likely to be far neater than that achieved on the assembly line.

Hope this helps, Allan from down under.

Mine are a latch system introduced in late 21 for the 22 models. The same as the front quarter glass.
