Question s ( basic) how does one install the spark rod, and carb lever rod It appears I will need to remove the steering assembly somehow and slip them on the two rods on either side of the steering column? carb and spark commutaor rods? Pins? Are they friction fit so they do not turn when torque applies ? Also of course there is a pass through hole in the engine block for the carb rod to pass through I have a solid one piece plate covering the valves so it seems I will need to drill a hole for the rod to pass through? This seems like an error as henry ford would NOT have designed the valve cover in this manner ( Perhaps there is a different part I can just buy and clamp on ? Thanks for the education over the years Also this is a 1926 with the NH Carb standard set up :D

Your car most likely had a vaporizer carb originally. The throttle arm is located near the top by the springs. Langs sells an adapter, 6299CL that allows you to use that arm over the top of the engine. or you can get a bolt on lever, 6297, drill a hole through the block and tappet cover. I have used the over the top style and they work well. The spark lever should slip over the end of the spark rod. The pins need to be penned over to hold them in place.

Thank you for this info That would make sense if they took the vaporizer carb off and replaced it why there is no hole in the valve side plate cover
What really puzzles me is the absence of any connecting pieces on the steering column spark and throttle rods to connect the carb and commutator.

I have seen the solid connectors but a bolt on lever would be great "can get a bolt on lever, 6297," I looked and Snyders and MAcs I will try Langs any other sources?

Thanks all for info Texas T has this part It seems like a 2 piece wood block that slips over steering column but not sure it will work seems like it would not allow movement of the control rods As you can see no attachment points on columns

You also need a hole in the center of the block between cylinders 2 and 3. If there is not one, you would need to make one in the right place. So maybe the over the top of the engine type would be easier to install. I have one car with the straight rod for the timer. It goes over the radiator hose. Works well if the timer is set correctly for starting and idle.

My car has the over the top adapter and it works very well. There should be a short lever on the throttle control shaft below the firewall. There should be another short lever on the end of the spark control shaft down at the end, just past the steering bracket. There should also be an anti-rattle metal plate thingie that fits over all 3 shafts about halfway between the firewall and the steering bracket. If the engine block and valve cover lack holes, I'd leave them that way and use the adapter. That's 2 less places for dirt to get in and oil to leak out of. The short levers that go on the control shaft are slipped on the shafts and pinned in place. There should be a small hole in each shaft for the pins to go through. The holes may be covered with dirt or paint. There should be a picture or diagram somewhere of how it all goes together. If the small levers are missing, I think you can get replacements on the control shafts by removing the steering pitman arm and the steering bracket and sliding the levers on. I think that would be easier than pulling the steering column.

Dave, your picture looks like there are witness marks on the throttle rod where the lever should go. You will need to pull the steering column out enough for the throttle rod to clear the lower steering bracket at the frame, slide a replacement arm on, and pin it. As to the valve cover I would get a replacement cover that has the hole in it.
