Transmission Brake Band Spring Tool
How does this tool mount so that I can take off the brake pedal without tension from the spring pushing the nut and/or washer out, and into the transmission?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

I bring the ears together so I can unscrew the nut and remove the nut and washer from the pedal shaft. I hold it at a 45 degree angle so each prong sits just under the rearward lip of the band. To be a safe I stuff the surrounding open areas with crumpled paper towels so things don't fall down in the pan.

When you stuff rags in the transmission to catch things that might be dropped, count them going in and coming out.
